  • Here's a quick demo using multiple parts on the new Fantom 08.
    Everything's been played in real time, no overdubs.
    In the second part of the video I used the internal pattern sequencer playing along with a lead sound.

    Basically, Roland have done to the Fantom what Yamaha did to the Montage. Create a more affordable version of it, albeit without all of the gifts available on the premium model. Well done. About time.

    • @roggyo
      @roggyo 2 роки тому +8

      Yes and no. Yamaha MODX is literally the same as Montage. It has the same possibilities as Montage, except aftertouch and less faders and knobs. On the other side Roland Fantom-0 series doesn’t have nZyme and V-piano, like it’s flagship brother. So it’s not the same keyboard with less controllers, comparing to MODX and Montage, because it has less possibilities than Fantom.

    • @X22GJP
      @X22GJP 2 роки тому +5

      @@roggyo Umm, no, MODX is literally NOT the same as Montage, which you quite clearly go on to confirm and contradict yourself. There are loads of differences which justify the lower price of MODX, some I/O related, some build related, there's polyphony differences so they literally CANNOT play the same music, and MODX can only have 4 layered parts when switching performances.
      They may have the same underlying sound engines, but they absolutely cannot get the same out of it, so by logical inference they are literally not the same. I completely understand where you are coming from with regards to engines available, but then again, n/zyme isn't part of OS 3.0 anyway and is a paid extra (albeit a worthy one and justifies owning a Fantom over Fantom-0 in my opinion).

    • @roggyo
      @roggyo 2 роки тому +1

      @@X22GJP
      Yes you are right about polyphony, built quality etc. I would add that Montage has better AD/DA converters as well and obviously better sound (majority don’t hear the difference but trained ear hears the difference in sound). Aftertouch doesn’t have nor MODX nor Fantom- 0.
      I know that for nZyme you have to pay extra money but it doesn’t work on Fantom - 0 series (even if you buy it), comparing to Montage and MODX, where literally everything what you buy for Montage you can use it and play on MODX and vise versa.
      I don’t understand what do you mean with - “MODX can have only 4 layered parts when switching performances”?
      Edit:
      MODX can have the same amount of layers and parts and scenes per performance as Montage. Variations of one performance are called scenes on Yamaha synths and there are 8 on both MODX and Montage. And on both synths Montage and MODX you can put the same amount of layers per performance, that’s why I didn’t understand what do you mean. Difference is only built quality, number of controllers, polyphony and aftertouch. That’s it. Otherwise whatever you can do on Montage you can do it on MODX as well, no limitations regarding programming possibilities.

    • @rickhunter6185
      @rickhunter6185 2 роки тому +1

      I've heard the Montage and the MODX and the Montage has richer sounds, with more dynamics, the AD/DA also makes a big difference in quality sound, MODX's AD/DA looks like cheaper one

    • @roggyo
      @roggyo 2 роки тому +2

      @@rickhunter6185
      The difference in sound between the two is because of AD/DA converters, no other differences, they have the same sound engines, but converters obviously make the difference, just not a huge difference for average ear. Majority ppl even don’t hear the difference on blind test. But there is a difference and it should be because of the price. I suppose flagship Fantom has better AD/DA converters comparing to Fantom 0 as well. If there wouldn’t be any differences, no one would buy flagship models. My point is that Fantom 0 has more limitations than MODX comparing to their flagship brothers.
      Otherwise I prefer Yamaha samples, but I love Roland for synth sounds. Roland samples sound a bit outdated.

My ex wife said i was a little obsessed. That was an understatement lol. But every year i think well cant do much more with them and eveey year i get proven wrong. • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith Рік тому +1

      The PHA-4 is I believe the best action at the pricepoint > for its intended use.
      However you need to be mindful of what it was designed for.
      A live gigging board; is not going to be aimed at imitating the flagship Fantom PHA-50. Or one of the great 'tanks' of acoustic reproduction such as the Kawai Mp11. Gosh is that one heavy to move.
      That 'intended use' then; is as a live performance keyboard bringing the engine to a range of keybeds that are either synth/lead/general purpose orientated, or Piano leaning instead (08). Nothing that isn't obvious there.
      Feel is very personal. Some hate Korg Rh3 - some pianists swear by it. Others are disappointed that Yamaha might have forgotten escapement on Nh3 - some conservatoire graduates actually prefer that! (return speed).
      So it's very very difficult to answer a question like this -- beyond general design.
      It was made to be expressive, light (weight) and more suited to keyboardists playing bigger pieces. If that's you -- you'll be as happy as the thousands of bands who used the earlier FA series over the years. If you're going 08 because you're looking depart from synth more and really delve into Piano alone; you may want to try a dedicated digital Piano instead. I assume you aren't because that misses out on a lot of the device as a whole -- in which case remember what a hybrid/versatile keyboard can do and what it can't. Nothing by design, can be the best at everything.
      If you can (and have prior preferences / experience) try one out before buying.

      Doesn't even have channel aftertouch, let alone the new standard polyphonic aftertouch

      Aftertouch? Of course not. Its a traditional Roland 3 wheeled ferrari. Another Roland product handicapped for some ill conceived notion of product displacement or hierarchy.
      And class compliant usb audio? Nope. Not even on the main fantom range, yet it is present on the new sp404 mk2.
      Rant over.

      ASM can afford it, because their boards offer nothing but that. Most of their RND went into what is a perfectly fine - but very basic system. They aren't even in the same market space as Yamaha/Korg/Roland and never will be as they don't have even 0.1% of the footprint or value. AT has it's place but all the bigger brands will be loathe to put it on anything other than flagships with the right keybed focus for good reason. Not everyone needs it. Wants it or wants to accept the sacrifices elsewhere for the RND cost. AT has a specific feel. Which to some players just isn't welcome. Thats all it is. There's no 'standard' here at all. You just have no idea what you are talking about. You think companies with millions spent on RnD don't know what the market actually needs and wants? Lol. They are businesses that want profit and sales. Believe me. If it was wanted in enough numbers and was worth the development - you'd have it.

    Hello. Thanks for your demonstration, but I, and I get the feeling from the comments, that few people know how this can be done on a phantom-0, if it is true that it can be done, and some of the sounds that They are heard in the video, they are not generated by fantom-0. Could you please provide documentation and a detailed example about it and even if you don't make it free, please put it on sale so that fans of these keyboards can learn and enjoy your magnificent work and decide to buy a Fantom-0. Thank you so much.

    The drumkits are 25 years old for fucks sake. I don't hear anything new in the EDM drumkits, same shit as on the Roland JX305 & JV1080. Seems like Roland got super lazy. And the DSP on this is not cut-down version isn't enough to handle all the plugins which by-the-way cost shitloads of cash ☹️
