A tip, you are making a deadly (to catching fish) mistake with the rod. You MUST catch the line under your rod hand index or middle finger the instant the line hits the water... and keep it there until you pick the line up. If you get a take and a hookup, the fish will often swim towards you, or if you're in a boat you will run over the top of the stationary fish, and in either case the line will go slack and the fish will pop off, especially if you have removed the barb from the hook. If the line is NOT under your finger you will only be able to strip once, if it IS under your finger you can strip as rapidly as your left hand will work, keeping you line tight and the fish hooked. Can't emphasize enough how important this is. As we fishers say, tight lines;)

youll think im lying, in the mid 1970s lees ferry was the best trophy trout fishery in the west, my mom and dads ashes are there , it was there favorite place to fish, our largest rainbow was 33 in 12 lbs, brook over 5 lbs, german
brown over 8 lbs , the fishery was ruined when they increased flow from glen canyon, it washed away the native vegetation, main food source was fresh water shrimp that lived in the moss, the trout flourished, heard stories of 15 lbs to 17 lbs being caught back then, i believe them
