Sucks getting old huh? LOL. The Crow had an aesthetic of the youth culture of its time. If it kept that aesthetic, but set in the 2020's, it would be out of place. I remember the old Crow. I loved it. I go into this one understanding that this is the Crow reimagined through a different youth culture.

People could just get over that its not 1992 anymore and life doesn't just stop because someone died from a tragic accident....James O'Barr has been trying to get the movie remade for decades, and that "white paint" mime look isn't from the comic, he just smeared some paint around his eyes and mouth.

The crow is pure 90s. It’s a great 90s gritty comic book movie. That’s just something you cannot duplicate. This is something we didn’t need or asked for especially after seeing the sequels.

I’m 34 and watched the original Crow last week, for the first time! I loved every second of it. It was very grim, sad but undoubtedly impressive. With that being said, I understand why you guys are upset that they’re using the Eric Draven name, Brandon Lee brought something so unique to the role - it’s his. This iteration just seems OK.
I wish I could watch that one for the first time again instead of this!

The original Crow (1994) had a really gritty look to it, and while this Remake has ultra violence, it kind of screams more John Wick than The Crow. Part of the Crow is that he’s literally supposed to be undead. Instead this just comes across as a dude with powers that he can’t die like Wolverine.
If you youtube "The Crow Top Dollars place" you will see the 94 Crow was Wick before Wick lol the battle with Draven vs the gangs in the club had guns, swords and hand to hand combat... Brandon Lees Crow was John Wick before John Wick

To me, The Crow with Brandon Lee (for a 1994 film) is an atmospheric masterpiece with eerily beautiful New Wave elements. Brandon Lee as Eric Draven (Eric the Raven) conveys a lot of emotions in the role, all in a very beautiful and interesting look. Brandon is charismatic as well as in top acting form. The film world resembles a music video by The Cure, dark, melancholic, with interesting camera perspectives. I have been hoping for a high-quality remake the whole time, but I realize that the first images of the new version rather disappoint me. Bill doesn't look as intense as Brandon. Watching the trailer, I feel no emotions. Writing these words, I now realize that the original 1994 movie should have been left as a classic masterpiece without a remake, thus leaving Brandon's farewell and legacy to rest in dignity. The original is simply original.

I like Bill wish they'd made him a different name not Eric Draven like you said. But I'm going to check it out and hope it's pretty good better than expected. Going in with low expectations.

I remember when we were young and rebelling and the older people kept telling us "back in my days" and telling us they had things better we'd tell them to shut up and raise our volumes. I wonder at what point exactly we became the exact oppressive people we hated, who shoots down anything that's not back like in our old days as instantly inferior... and now we're telling people to conform to what we think is best... Does it look "better", nah, but hey, it's new, and it might get people into some cool communities and new experiences.
If what you were saying actually applied to this situation I would agree. But it doesn't. This is a far more nuanced situation than that. They could have named the character anything they wanted and not disrespected what came before in this situation.
ERic himself in the comics and the movie, while very different stories, visually they are both in line with Dark Wave/Industrial/Punk (goth) from the late 80s.
I'm not a big fan of the genera of rap Lil Peep is (everyone gives me a different label for it) and even i can tell this is a poor representation of that subculture.
So to throw that look onto a character not tied to that previously in his movie adaption/comic original form just screams of cashing in on a films 30th anniversary.

If they weren’t Eric and Shelly, then this movie would be something to talk about. Expanding into the crow lore would be dope as fuck especially in modern day, but in my head their names are Derek and Sherri.
I was obsessed with the first 3 movies in my early teen years (still haven't seen the Edward Furlong one, buuuuuut not in any hurry to) so I hope this is good. Skargard is gonna be awesome though I'm sure of that.

I agree with the music part because I feel like they could've used Ice Nine kills A grave mistake, loathe's agressive evolution, or thornhill's arkangel because of the grunge like/deftones sound to it. But as for Bill's look it's slowly growing on me and his performance with the action pieces looks good and I can't wait also loved the nods to the graphic novel and I think it's really cool to see that this interpretation is gonna show more of Eric's and Shelly's relationship
This reminds me of the Devil May Cry game change to Dante's character and made him into Emo Dante. They just added tattoos but it's the same look as Emo Dante, red coat and short cropped hair.

I thought the blood was hokey as well. I am very nervous for this movie and will first wait for your review before I give it a thought. We have very similar movie tastes. I have not seen the real Crow in a very long time so I will watch that tomorrow as it is on Paramount. The shotgun to the face in the trailer was shocking yet truly awesome!

I love the music
I’m one of the biggest crow fans. I truly love the OG movie. I’m going into this with an Open mind. From a marketing standpoint, I understand trying to get the new younger crowd on board. There’s multiple elements that made the crow special. Brandon Lee, the look and feel of the movie. Memorable villains and great one liners. Also, the soundtrack was so fucking good. This movie has a lot to live up to.

The original crow had a mullet. The original was pure 90's from the hair to the music and it was fantastic. As a reboot, I like what I am seeing overall and will give it a chance.
Let's hope the soundtrack is at least good because that is a perfect soundtrack.
I was so into Lee at the time and watched Rapid Fire more than I could count and then the same with the Crow. I was devestated when he died.
When they dropped these photos I was worried a bit, I saw why the director gave him tattoos which I guess got why because he said that's what some people looked like in the 90s and that kinda softed the worry a bit, but not much. Still I said just keep an open mind and judge it when the trailer drops.
When I saw the trailer it surprised me a bit. It does look it can be good. It does look very different from the original which I i think is good because I don't want a shot for shot remake of this (cough cough Psycho)
Also as it says in the credits "based on the comic book series and comic book strip by James O'Barr" I feel this movie is an re-adaptation of the original graphic novel than a remake of the original movie.
As the article said was that they are going to focus more on Eric and Shelly's love story more in this before their deaths which I think is cool. Eric's make-up here is kinda accurate to the look in the graphic novel where he only had black make-up and no white face make-up like the original did. Also Eric having the name Draven was because in the comic we didn't know his last name while in the movie and the original he does.
There was about the other films they were always different the third one still one of my favorites. They are that one on 4k

I recently watched The Crow like last month for the first time and it was great! This movie can definitely never live up to that iconic film but I like Skarsgard, I like peep, and I like action… I think I’m going to grab myself a ticket and hope for the best 😂

I pretty much agree with all your sentiments and The Crow is easily one of the top 5 fav movies of all time for me. It is uniquely special. I feel if this was another sequel with different characters, I’d be a bit more excited. That being said.. I LOVE Skarsgard and I will give this a chance. But doesn’t mean I am not super annoyed with a lot of the creative choices I am seeing so far.😒
