I watched it again just to hear her laugh cuz it's so awesome when somebody catches the nuances of the comedy and laughs hysterically. There's also a guy that does the same thing but not quite as often as she does
normally if they don't have an obnoxious laugh but are just laughing hysterically, I can't help but feel like laughing with them.
I relate to her so much on this one 😭 😂😂
Almost sounds like Dylan McDermott’s wife getting it on with Dermot Mulroney (as he admits later in the sketch)
bill hader's game show characters are all sadists.
i love that he saw the angle that the host is pretty much in a position of power and lording it over the contestants, cause its kinda how game shows feel to me. a celebrity host with a multimillion $ job who gets their kicks by watching the contestants scramble for some kind of pittance like 50k...regis hosting who wants to be a millionare comes to mind.
I saw in an interview he said he hated when they pitched him as game show hosts because he was the one in control of the skit and that made him anxious

Uh, SNL's writers that been doing that since the 1990s (maybe a little earlier, but the 1990s [especially the era with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Rob Schneider, and David Spade as cast members] episodes were criticized for having one-note sketches).

Mira Sorvino is the good looking one with the amazing lips, legs, and deep voice. Mina Suvari is the other one.
I come back here sometimes to hear that audience member cackle because whatever it was that went on that day, in this particular moment here, she was deliriously happy.
The fact that they were able to carry this joke for 6 minutes without getting stale is its own kind of accomplishment. A lot of SNL skits can't make that claim, so well done!
To be honest Bill Hader, Jason Sudekis, Bobby Monyhan, Kristin Wigg can actually pull that off Kate McKinnon too but still these guys are the reason why some skits can be long and funny.
This skit is a clinic in how to make a one-joke sketch work, and still be funny over six minutes. Compare that to any, say "Toonces the Driving Cat" sketch or most of the 1990s SNL movies.
That's a first for SNL, since a lot of critics and detractors accuse the show of having one-note sketches whose jokes get very stale.
I've come to realize that Bill Hader is just one of the funniest people alive.

I actually watched this skit yesterday morning. Then last night while channel surfing we ran across a Law & Order: SVU episode where a guy was testifying in court, and he looked familiar.... and I said to my husband "Oh my God! That's Dermot Mulroney!! We saw him in The New Girl, and that SNL skit. What a coincidence!" Somehow this skit had prepared me for recognizing him on the same day. A few minutes later, the episode credits played:
Guest star: Dylan McDermott.
....
I lost. I lost the game again. It was the other guy.
Unless I got it right, and the folks who assembled the credits were wrong!

ok Right I was thrown off when they showed a picture of Dylan but the guy got it correct for saying Rupert Everett for being the gay Dermont.
One thing that bothers me about this sketch is another thing
I love that during the "Double Dermott" portion, Kenan's character guesses Rupert Everett, who is supposedly the "gay Dermot Mulroney," and they give him points for that, even though the picture was of Dylan McDermott, thus confusing the issue further. 😂

Bill Hader has been doing this since before John Mulaney (I’m sure that’s spelled wrong) even came on the scene. No hate to him, I haven’t seen enough of his stuff to know how to feel about it. But this is the genius of Bill Hader and maybe Fred Armisen, both creative powerhouses.
If you wanna go further back, this could be the grandchild of the “mentally challenged” olympics in Monty Python’s Flying Circus. The fake game show/fake sports caster trope came around as an evolution of mockumentaries. All of which were pioneered by the likes of John Cleese and company. The simplistic nature of a simple set up but long winded story is perfect for comedy. Anyways. Shoutout to Mulaney, I’ll give him another chance bc of your comment!!
