    Where did you retrieve that parabolic trough? What microphone capsule did you choose? I want to do the same test but I want to use a '20 cm plastic funnel. :) Interesting cue in your video but need to think about adding a "reverb" to better improve reception. Hi.

      I took the "dish" from some of my kid`s toys actually. It is not the perfect shape to do it because it is not parabolic, but spheric shape. Anyway I wanted to make some primitive experiment to find out if it`s going to amplify the sound. And the result show it clearly that there is significant amplification, but there are also many imperfections in the sound. It sound somehow distorted (you know what I mean). I tryed to get the best focal point for this project to get themost of it. I must admit it`s not perfect, but it is some basic point for my next project for long didtance mic with very large parabolic dish from old SAT TV receiver. The capsule here is very important, I used the AOM-5024L-HD-R . I had to order these from the USA (I live in Bulgaria). These capsules are brilliant in my opinion :) Keep in touch ;)

    Now make 3 more and place them facing 12oclock 3oclock, 6, 9, ....connect them to a raspberry Pi and program something that documents DB measurements....or have each connected to a cheap cellphone with a DB measuring app.... or have it set up to spin(fast) and utilize the sensors in a cellphone and a data logging app to measure DB and current phone orientation...you can have a doppler sound radar direction finding device...locate all the annoyingly loud or specific noises. Do it! I dare you to!

    Sounds great with voice tbh, in a room that is made to dampen the sound and with two smaller capsules you would have nice stereo mic although the bowl would make it sound a bit bigger

    The focal length is HALF the radius. It is not obvious where inside the mike the focal point must be, so some adjustment will be required. With such a deep curve you have spherical abberation, preventing a sharp focus. I suggest a much larger, more shallow reflector. Also, rule of thumb for parabolic reflectors is minimum 10 waves diameter. Do the math.

    Sweeeeeet Microphone, Hwo Did You Calculate The Focal Point? It Should Be Calculated And Used Right, Teh Effect Could Be Much More Better Just Like With Antenna Dishes, Finding The Focal Point Is Super Easy, Just reflect Any Light In The "Bowl" Take A Sheet of Paper And Put It To The Bowl Not Obscuring The Light And You Will See Where The Smallest Point Of The Light Is And Thats Where The Focal Point of The Parabollic Bowl / Antenna Is, Thats The Point Where You Should Mounth Antenna Element or Microphone, !
    Next Thing, You Should Put The Mic On Some Coaxial Cable And Putt Some Choke On It Right Before The Mic ELement Itstelf, That Would Improve Lowering Noise .

      It was kinda experimenting with this set-up. There is significant amplification, compared to my camera built in mic, but I've managed to make huge success, using an old satellite dish and properly mounting the microphone in the right position. You are right that this one makes the sound very odd and probably not usable for recording speech.

    • @MattQrillz
      @MattQrillz Рік тому +1

      @FixitEasyDIY it works, but I feel like the ambient amplify mode on my phone does a better job. Still cool object to modify and tinker with in spare time, might just need to experiment with different sized components for a bit

    • @FixitEasyDIY
      @FixitEasyDIY  Рік тому +1

      @@MattQrillz You are totally right 👍 I've tried to get much better amplification by using old satellite dish. It is actually an offset dish and I could get sounds from more than 200 meters away. There is huge distortion, but it is a good starting point for further experiments :)

      So called focal point is "in the middle of the middle" . It`s not that important to make it super precise. Best way for home DIY is to try to make it by experimenting. Unfortunately there is no easy way to make it, but the good news is that it is really not that big difference if it`s not perfect. Just try it. Bigger bowl would give you better results. I wish you all the best my friend! ;)
