@@landonzeiber772did the same, acquired an old aluminum boat for nothing. It leaked from almost every rivet, so I used that as an excuse to by a tank of argon and a TIG welder. About fifty hours of welding later, the boat usually doesn’t leak, usually. The new 20 HP Mercury pushes the skiff along about 20MPH. Except for the new boat motor, altogether was worth it, out about $1800 for transformer welder and a couple of tank fulls of argon, but now I have steel and aluminum welding skills to fix most anything. (You have to really want to learn to weld to make it with it).
Dieter I sure wish I could've bought that boat, That thing was the best riding boat . I learned about trolling with planner boards in that boat. I listened and learned a lot from a Great Friend in that boat . I hope you enjoy it and you make some great memories. I'd like another fishing trip in it.
Bimini top is a must for summer time. I have both and the enclosure blocks out all the breeze that you really want in the summer time. Enclosure can’t be beat in the winter though!
I really enjoy your channel .You always take time to really explain all aspects of catfishing .You always have a nice humble personality that is refreshing this day and time.I really appreciate your videos ...Good Job!!!!
My boat had Lawrence 7 but I gave it to a friend and installed a Garmin echo map 9 with a LCD screen hooked to it with a long cord to take up front or put in the rear so I didn't have to keep turning around to see depth or anything structure.
Hey Dieter, you want to give the Lund a good shake down run, pull it out a little west of you. I'll show you a couple dozen spots where you can check out how it anchors and make sure all the lights work like they should out here on the Missouri river, 5 - 6 mph current should be enough to check out how it anchors and fishes, you might have enough net, if not I got your back...
It’s awesome to see you out on the new boat. South side still has a lot of the mayflies and their sheds as well but the bite is starting to pick up. I’ve pulled in a few small channel cats and a few small blues. Only decent one so far was a 16.38lb blue that looked like it just came out of spawn and not had not been eating. Tummy was caved in, if it had been eating it would have been closer to the low to mid 20’s. All on chicken, I’m going to start mixing cut bait and chicken to see if I can increase the bite.
Any good minnkota repair shop or dealer can put a long shaft on your trolling motor. I have the same thing when I bought it,I had a 72 inch shaft put on it for around $200.
Plenty fast with that boat. I run a ProCat 240, I can top out at about 52 MPH but I usually cruise around 32mph, keeps the motor in the 3500rpm range better gas mileage, less wear on the motor and all the customers can talk without yelling.
Congrats on the new boat Dieter! You will take some time getting it set up the way you like it, that's a process for sure. I will say that if you don't put your wrist strap on, you're gonna lose those new grippers eventually 😭
Nice boat, I would take it. For the trowling motor, just spit balling here, but does anyone make one that is like a bow thruster on navy ships? You can put it about where the cast deck is the motor underneath and it works off remote.
Our local lake has been totally off this year. Got hot and dry early and now it's frequent rain. Guessing we're down by 200+ fish in our fish count from where we typically are. Been a strange year off the bank so far.
@@robertmceuen3630 In Ohio here. Sorry to hear you're having the same bite we are. Been skunked too many times this year. They gotta eat sooner or later. Seems I'm wrong about that...
Dieter. It’s global warming on the may flies. 😂😂. Love the boat. I love to striper fish. That boat wood be perfect for Lake Murray down in South Carolina
Not knocking your boat, I like lund boats and your channel but I would check my transom cap screws, I bought a 2004 lund 1700 fisherman a few years ago in what I thought was great shape but had a totally rotted transom.
You may be right, but just knocking on that transom, and trying to get it to flex, it appears solid as a rock. I’m thinking if there is any rot, it will likely be on the bottom where the transducers are mounted. If I decide to hang a new motor on it down the road, I will replace it then.
@@robbiesmith9786 I spent $55k on my house about 5 years ago, I have about $75k into my 240 and accessories.. was proud I had a boat more expensive than my home.. now my house is valued at $135k.. cant think of anything else my boat really needs.. might gold plate it :D
Considering I fish from a Honda Accord, that boat looks mighty fine to me!
@UncleBuckRodgers I here yah there, I fish from the shore and drive a clapped out silverado

Boats coming along. Motor sounds real good

Great video Dieter, looks like it's running nice ,boat looks great. Hey it takes time to make it what works for you..
Got a few things to dial in. I just need to allocate the time to make it happen.!
I bet it was a great feeling getting that first one on the new to you boat!! It took me 3 days to get the first one on mine.
Very nice boat Bubs! And nice Feesh
!
Great to see you out in the new boat. Looks like it's going to be an asset for you. Keep em coming! 😊😊
That new reel handle looks really nice. That V hull might move a little more as you move around, but if the waves get big they are nice to have.
Those multi bars are awesome my buddy built me one an i installed it yesterday on my 16' flat bottom

I would love a boat with a cover like that and high sides for the big Potomac in the winter
We just upgraded from a 17' fiberglass runabout to a 21' tracker party deck aluminum. Should have done it years ago 🎣
We still have Mayfly’s on Kerr right now. It’s august 1
Liking the new boat!

I live in front of Amber Jacks! Hope to run into you one day out at SP boat ramp🎣
Please say hello!!!!
Be aware, the transom on lunds tend to be problematic. I know a few that have gone bad. Mine is a 1981 and is still good. Enjoy your new boat!
Congrats on the new boat Dieter! You will take some time getting it set up the way you like it, that's a process for sure.
I will say that if you don't put your wrist strap on, you're gonna lose those new grippers eventually 😭
I’m gonna at a float to them….it’s saved my Boga Grip from a couple of well intentioned guide trip clients….🤣🤣
That boat has character. It is an Old Warhorse, had good times with Mac putting some Fatties on the deck.

What size reels are those Ancient Mariners your using? And what size line do you use on them? What’s the best hook to use in lakes?
The old one was fiberglass and the new ones alum ? Could it be the noise
Nice. How had the carolina skiff held up for you over the years? Any issues?
Great. Still fishing it. At the time I bought hit, dollar for dollar, it was the best built and priced boat made.

Dieter just wondering, is this Mac's old boat?
Yes it is!!!!
What kind of boat is that that you have there?

That's crazy that boat looks smaller then your other
Nah…..it’s two feet longer…..and a LOT taller….
Did you sale or trace in older boat?
Still got it….two boat team!!!
What is the name of that old boat?
Did Mac B own this boat? I know he had/has a Lund that looks like this one
Yes, this is Mac's old Lund
@@DieterMelhorn I thought I recognized it! Glad to see it’s carrying on the legend!
Just a little cleaning on the inside it will look brand new.
Hehehehe….I don’t think it will ever look “brand new”, but I’m hoping I can get the carpet the same shade of dirty….😜
Only pointy aluminum fishing boats are Grumman, plain and simple
👍👍👍👍👍🎣
With your kinda money y don't u just go buy new boat
First, I’m tight….LOL! Second, new boats cost more than their value.
@DieterMelhorn thats true 50 thousand buy a nice house where I'm from
@DieterMelhorn actually the trailer I'm living in wasent as much as my sea ark lol
