Using fins gives you a HUGE advantage in catching waves as well as turning and doing tricks. It is really har if not impossible to get a wave without fins.

Thanks so much for the video, I just moved to Oahu Hawaii and went to Belows Beach there for some body boarding, I borrowed a friend's body board so although it wasn't the right fit, I had a great time and even caught a few waves! I will use your info you provided now to get my own, being 5 feet tall shouldn't tough lol.

The uk has some decent surf aroumd devon and cornwall i know your comment is 10years old but dont do the uk dirty like that we get better waves than most think the beaches aroumd parrenporth, carolyn bay ect are great Newquay of course and if you talk to locals amd get pointed in the right directions you can find some.gems of places that dont have a lot of attention even 10 yesrs down the line we had great waves this week a couple of day i sat and watched as the waves and whote water where to much for me the weather was not great but the surf was fine had a great 2 weeks i try and go 2 or 3 times a year but it is a 8 hour drive for me that hurts

i am 158cm and 54kg and I had no idea what was the right size for me. My mom always got me board closer to 42' or 43' and it worked, but I knew i needed smaller. Now after watching this I have a 38' and I love it! THX

    • @matthewbarneshi
      @matthewbarneshi 6 років тому +6

They’re recreational “boogie boards” and can’t handle waves that are bigger than 3-4 face. I myself have tried to use an old Morey Mach-9 which is over a decade old... because there is no stringer on the board, it gives no support and can easily snap. Also paddling out is so much harder with those cheap ass boards because of how light they are. Duck diving is almost impossible as the waves just push you backwards.

Im looking to get back into bodyboarding after about 10 years out, mainly for exercise but I was half decent back then. I was abit lost with these new boards but this video helped so cheers for that. Im wondering what sort of board you guys would recommend for a 6ft 120kg guy with medium ability?

    • @bodyboardingtoday4897

      Ways to size a board.
      1. Nose of board at the bottom of chin, tail of board at knee.
      2. Tail of board at feet, nose of board at belly button or inch above or below belly button.

I'm 6'3" and 105kg . Mid 40s and getting my little guy into it.
I bought a 45,comes up to my belly button nearly.
Floats sweetly. Bit big for my 8 year old but he's 4'10" and 60kg,I'm sure he's gonna be a big boy too.
He's learning to swim in surf so I stay with him,but I'm love the drop in feel again.
    Don't grow old ever.!!!
If you're thinking about getting back in,just do it before you turn 90.

should i pick 100 or a 500. every website states that 100 is for small waves and 500 is for mid' waves. what is small? what is middle?
i don't want to waste money on a 100 just to break it on what i consider a mid' wave, but i also don't want to slow myself down with a 500

Don't listen to people who try to act like know-it-alls and tell you this brand is better than that brand. It's bullshit from a bullshitter. The truth is, MOST of the brands are pretty much the same. The "better" brand is the one that is most comfortable on your feet. Nothing will ruin your session like a pair of fins that are too tight and cramp/cut your feet OR a pair that is too loose and gets sucked off your feet everytime you duck dive a wave.

The easiest way to tell the right size is it should come up to your piko (navel). Also double stringer is good if you are a regular surfer. I just bought a Manta double stringer fish tail ($210.00) I am trying a new board. Word of warning do not leave your board in your car or it will warp- thats what happened to my custom x:(

if your boards to big the nose of the board is going to be too far away and the more you move closer the less control of your legs you will have..too small and you wont be able to control it properly.. the better you get the more you will notice the massive difference half an inch can make on a board...for instance I am 6ft and a 42" inch board feels to long when prone but 41.5" feels perfect.
