I have no talent, I'm in no band. I have creative types around me and they fill up a room. I don't know if it was because they were hungrier, full of angst, or intoxicated, but it seems like it was easier to have opinion and creative input back in the day. Sobriety doesn't always take big cahones and filling up a room. Ya, to hear easily top ten of all time greatest guitarists and only member to not let ego lead him away say that it changed him. Ouch. Old sleazy loud guitar player played through excruciating pain, (and put up with all the shenanigans), to have his ideas pushed aside. Ouch. Mick Mars is literally and figuratively, the REAL DEAL. I hope that each of the guys saw this interview, HEARD what Mick wanted to do, and for the Stadium Tour, will use his ideas. It's better than brand new music, it's good music, but made better.

I can believe it. Even James H of Metallica has self doubt issues which amazes me too. It’s strange isn’t it? What drives those guys is the “fear of failure” so it seems.

They are striving for better, at times it’s when they step outside the comfort zone. Swine is a weird record. Got a few cool songs but just a weird record.

I love Mick Mars he's not only a great musician he's also a great human being. He's honest and he isn't the center of attention but he still works hard and is so unappreciated! I love mötley crüe but Mick is so unappreciated and yet one of the most easy to relate to when it comes to the average Joe

I really like Micks' candor here. Motley was having a full identity crisis on that record, and the bullshit, forgettable results on that swine of an album prove it. That record had nothing to do with Motley Crue. They needed Mick to let it rip more than ever at that time, but instead they tried to sound like whatever was current and choked on it, like so many other bands have.

yeah, that would have been the peak of the "no lead solos" era. Bob Cock neutered Hammet in his wisdom of having Metallica follow a stupid trend.ill never understand why he is such a popular producer, well, he does make commercial hits but musically its crap.McD's sells the most burgers, not the best.

This is why when you record an album, you choose your producer carefully. There have been so many times when a producer didn't appreciate someone in the band is the result is rarely good. Any producer who would criticize Mick's guitar work has no business being a record producer. Good record producers inspire and challenge you to do things you didn't believe you could do. Bad producers just knock down the musicians for their own ego. Mick deserved to be treated better when recording that album.

I remember when that album was coming out it was the first album with Vince back, and mtv had gone to grunge and alternative rock and was refusing to play anything that sounded like traditional hard rock and heavy metal. I remember being exciting think Motely Crue is back with Vince there is some buzz with the band we are finally going to get a slab of traditional hard rock. Then the first single/video came out for Afraid, it sucked balls and then when I heard the album it was even worse. Man the 90s was the worst time to be a metalhead. If you made decent metal you got ignored if metal bands sold out and tried to be grunge they might get some exposure but it was always shit and them watering themselves down. This album was terrible.

The only thing I dont like about this video is that Mick didnt say it was actually Nikki & Tommy who were criticizing him. In The Dirt, it was clearly stated that Sixx & Tommy picked the producer AND also had John Corabi coming in behind Mick’s back to rerecord Mick’s guitar parts. John has revealed that both Sixx & Tommy complained constantly about Mick’s playing & now, in 2022, they’ve replaced him with J5 under the guise that Mick is too frail because of his illness. It’s bs. Mick did an interview yearsssss ago with Guitar Magazine where he stated that several of the band members didnt think he could handle the touring aspect & blamed it on his illness back then. Suxx & Tommy “the manchild” Lee are two d0uchebags & have totally screwed over Mick at every turn. I dont understand how MC fans support that band anymore.

Mick is Motley Crue,he came up with the name, the riffs for the songs and was a big ,HUGE part in them getting anywhere. He found Nikki and Tommy Lee Bass ,the trend following goof! That is what was great in the beginning ,they were setting trends instead of chasing them like on Generation Swine! The last album, which was recorded with each member coming in alone and separate, but still a great album. To me the first 2 were it! After shout,it was hit and miss until they sobered up and made a Aerosmith album with the opening that was great and went down from there. Anyway,if it wasn't for Mick(also getting vince in,and was the one who told Tommy about drum riser ) but at least they knew when to stop before they were a joke like KISS, and Nikki and I loved loved them, until we met them when they opened for them on the Creatures of the Night tour,Motley blew them away,Mick hates them but loves Alice Cooper!Mick Mars rules!

not really, it was just a change. I had to listen to the album about 10 times to finally appreciate the album and what they were doing and the sound of it. like they say, "takes a few spins to get under your skin." At first I didn't understand it or like it at all, maybe liked one song on it. now I like about 11 of 13 songs off it.

I just assumed MIck writes all the guitar parts. Can Nikki even play guitar?

Yes Nikki Sixx can play guitar of course, just basic.

The album was heavily influenced by industrial music, and to be honest, rock and roll guitars just don't go with it. People can disagree with Tommy all they want, but I think Motley's refusal to go in a more experimental direction is part of the reason why he left the group and started Methods of Mayhem. He is the most experimental guy in the band. I think the mistake they made is that they needed to understand that there was a place for the Crue, and there was a place for solo careers. They didn't realize that until later. BTW - Scott Humphrey, who produced Swine and damaged Mick's self-confidence, is one of T-Bone's best buddies and helped him make "Never A Dull Moment." Swine was also just a terrible time for the band because they really didn't want Vince in the band. Nikki is totally right....when Vince bailed and Corabi joined, they should've renamed the band and started by playing theaters. I think the self titled Motley album with Corabi is a GREAT hard rock album, but it wasn't the Crue. They needed to start as if they were a new group. Too much ego.

That's a shitty producer that treats any band member like that. a good producer never has this happen. I'm sure there are discussions and disagreements in the studio about what direction to take a song, but why treat a band guy like this? Scott treated mick like this and for what? THIS ALBUM? Wow, great results there, Scott. no wonder we never hear about you producing anything else.

The only songs on this album worth a shit are the ones John Corabi wrote. Mick being truthful, Tommy stumbling all over his words trying to defend a pure cluster-fucked album. Thank God, Motley Crue is DEAD......RIP

some good songs on the album but most were pretty crap. Tommy loves it because he got to sing on it, but the worst songs on the album are the ones where Nikki and Tommy sing. they didn't really sound and feel like the Crue again until the next album.

Read "The Dirt" and you see how Scott Humphries got over involved and started pitting members against each other. Generation Swine was supposed to be the 2nd Corabi album, but thanks to Humphries, Sixx and Lee going in all directions at once, John couldn't do it. Even Vince wasn't into the recording on that. Tommy is the only one in the band who thought it was great. It was OK, but certainly my least favorite in their catalog.

Tony Michaels : Would you say that New Tattoo was a better album than Generation Swine ?

If we're only comparing the two albums, I'd say yes. New Tattoo, I feel, was a better recording than Generation Swine. Certainly the better of the two.

That's because Tommy has always been like a hyper preteen with ADD.
He embraced all the new influences around him, while Mick was, is and always will be the heartbeat and sound of Motley Crue. The constant exclusion of Mick's trademark licks made this Motley's version of KISS' Elder fail.

It’s not a good album. And it’s made worse by the fact that it followed their best music ever (sonically and musically) with Corabi. A tragedy they didn’t continue that way.

Band, lmao, John Corabi plays almost all of the guitars on this, had to teach Vince how to sing the songs, I do not blame Mick for hating this record or the producer. It sucked ass.

I love Tommy and his talent, but if there’s ever a music taste I don’t trust, it’s his. This guy defends Generation Swine and also likes “I’m In Love With My Car” by Queen. I’m in love with my car is so... not bad, but NOT good.
