***** ... The stippling strokes you did ...really wonderful..perfect texture...achieving realistic leaves...you have great observation of how the leaves are arranged on each tree...the use of layers and darks to lights....gives such dimension...great balance between light and texture...absolutely gorgeous...your control over the paint ... truly masterful draftsmanship....and literally perfect color mixing the textures.. shadows...lighting effects ...absolutely gorgeous realistic tree...thank you for explaining in detail throughout...very helpful..and appreciated...

Thank you for telling me repeatedly carefully for over a year. Like last time, closeup of this time is also very helpful. I think that there are various techniques, but the pen pressure between the brush and the screen is a truly subtle bargaining. I feel the breadth and depth of Michael's technique.

I am so amazed. I had just seen your work for the first time this week and fell in love. Anyway I was having trouble in the studio with my own work and came here to look for someone painting in detail and you were what came up. Had been hoping you might have something but I never really expected to see you at work . I am so happy !

it's amazing to watch you work and we learn so much by watching and listening. I know you call these "somewhat" realistic paintings... Will you be showing us what one of your hyper real paintings look like in comparison? I can't even start to imagine how they could get more photo realistic. Your talent is such a joy to watch! Keep up the great work Michael.

James's compositions/tones/brush stokes compared to the type of painting encouraged on Channel 4 Landscape artist of the year - which are arresting/surprising but not restful. Which type of painting would I want to live with in a sitting room for a period of time - James of course!

I tried white spirits for the first time this evening and in addition to a sharper line, I found that the coverage of the lighter color is better as well. When I used an oil based medium for the lighter color, it tended to muddy up.

Let me start by saying I thoroughly enjoy your videos. You have a nice, clean and pleasant style. I'm really interested in seeing an interpretation by Michael James Smith. Your technique is beyond reproach, but, what am I trying to say? I want to look at a painting and know who the artist is, rather than how well he can render a photograph onto canvas.

Just a quick question for an amazing artist; when you trash your brushes on a grinder, as mentioned in earlier videos, do you use a bench or angle grinder, please? I want to age some brushes due to mine all being new because I haven't been able to paint for years due to health issues. Thanks for all the great tutorials etc. I'm really looking forwards to your new website.

Here in the U.S. the trees don't have foliage right down to ground level. They have bare trunks for some distance above the ground before the foliage begins.

    JAMES!
How can you put one color on the other without them mixing too much? When I try to paint a light color over a dark one the light one soon becomes dark and I can not get the contrast effect.
Did you paint the dark part on acrylic to dry fast and the clear on top without problem? Or do you use something for the paint to dry faster? Or what?
Please is a serious question. If you can aswear me.
    thx

Hi Michael. I love your video lessons. Wow. Such detail but beautiful work. Just one question. You mention that your glaze layer is painted over with a turpentine layer....I didn't know that was possible, but I'm probably mixing it up with fat over lean which is probably just the oil content. Would you mind clarifying if you have time. Thanks again.
