He came from F-15Es at Mountain Home which also have -229s, so that is the engine he is familiar with. No way can he make that determination solely with DCS. Regardless, Block 50 an 52 are very similar in performance.

      @@ShadeAKAhayate That is very true, and certainly in the forefront of my mind.
      I do fly sailplanes in summer, and design high performance flying model aircraft too - and, despite glider flying being the lest expensive way to fly, DCS is in turn the most accessible means of getting to grips with an F-16 (In addition to the stellar Falcon BMS 4.37 / Falcon 7.0-ish).
      So if an actual F-16 pilot is sufficiently satisfied...that's a great thing to be aware of, and equally encouraging.

    Honestly, I do think Falcon BMS is more realistic. It may not fully implement absolutely everything an F-16 is capable of, but it does have a lot of flexibility as far as planning before every mission, which will be a big test in a dynamic campaign. it would be great to see a review of that if you are interested. I think it would be really cool to see you do a campaign when a good one is released! DCS campaigns are a lot of fun for me, since you have complex scripted missions, with briefing documents, voice overs, etc..
    There’s one coming called “The Gamblers” for the Viper, and it’s based on an actual Viper pilot (think his callsign is ‘Rain’) and his experience in Syria in the mid 2010’s. It’ll be the first high-quality campaign for the Viper and I’m super excited for it. In the meantime maybe you could find a couple high-quality missions to fly? Maybe even in an older airframe? Whatever you end up doing though I’ll be excited to see it
    Also, as a side note, I hope you try out VR soon! It might not be very conducive to content creation (wearing a headset while filming), but it makes everything feel a little more real, and it makes formation flying and especially tanking, much easier!

    Another f-16 sim game to look at is BMS. It is a 20+ year passion project mod for the old school game falcon 4.0. It's often on sale for $3.49 ($6 full price so not bad at all regardless). The f-16 is fully modeled/detailed and has multiple fully realized blocks of f-16s. The one downfall is the graphics aren't as good- BUT! This year they aim to release a huge patch that updates all materials and graphics along with a fully realized/detailed f-15C (for free). Worth a look!

    Oh snap. I actually thought Falcon BMS might have been the simulator being evaluated here due to the title. There may be some snarky comments incoming.
    I am a DCS player myself. But warning for ya Ryan, while Falcon BMS might have more advanced avionics replication for the F-16, it is not user friendly software to set up. Unless you’re a solid PC user guy, it will take some solid effort to get where you want with it.

    • @6XENO9
      @6XENO9 Рік тому

      I'm not sure if the "BMS user friendliness or lack of" part is valid anymore. It still has it's quirks, but once the Alternative Launcher became official BMS launcher it shouldn't be much more difficult to set it up than DCS. In fact it might be even easier, because contrary to DCS bare minimum approach, AL provides some sane defaults for most common flight sticks out there.

    • @EbonySeraphim
      @EbonySeraphim Рік тому

      @@6XENO9 gonna call BS on this claim. I've tried to fly BMS substantially since 4.32 (+4 or so versions) attempting to use the alternative launcher when available, and use the other various new tooling to set it up and it still remains something that's never come close to fully working for me. The best I've gotten was the utter basic flight controls, and questionable if the throttle-idle-AB behavior was acceptably mapped. I see that the tool is supposed to be able to do it in some easy way, but it never quite works and behaves I need it to. I've read the READMEs. Controls are not saving most of the time, and they never are close to sane defaults for my very popular flight sim hardware (CM3, WW-F16 EX, CougarMFDs). For reference, "almost there" is nowhere if you have a full HOTAS + pedals. At the end of the day, you have to scan through just about every thing ensuring certain other devices are not bound to something silly.
      I'm a software engineer with hobbies in video and photo editing, so complex software is not a thing for me. BMS tooling is a mess and a joke compared to DCS. I shouldn't have to damn near know exactly how BMS is coded to set it up and use it sanely.

    Oh Man!!! I'm so glad you gave props to John Boyd! I'm actually developing a TV Series and/or Feature based on the book by Robert Coram, BOYD: THE FIGHTER PILOT WHO CHANGED the ART OF WAR, to which I acquired the rights to. I'm calling it FIGHTER MAFIA. I already wrote the pilot episode and currently pitching to the studios. The feature adaptation is a little more challenging, as his story is so epic. It's hard to compact all of his significant accomplishments. But it can be done. Thanks so much for all of your amazing insight. F-16 is one of my favs.

      Yeah... might wanna check the other side of the story on John Boyd before spending too much on production based only on that book. LazerPig's analysis is perhaps a good start. I'm certainly no expert but what I do know is that he was at best a controversial figure.

    • @marcosantiago6818
      @marcosantiago6818 Рік тому

      @@grievesy83 Yes - I've done exhaustive research on Boyd from different perspectives. The book by Coram is only a starting point and serves to add value to the project from an IP perspective.

    • @grievesy83
      @grievesy83 Рік тому

      @@marcosantiago6818 I find it surprising that a person who has conducted extensive research into Boyd talks about him or the Fighter Mafia in positive terms. Pierre Sprey in particular was nothing short of a fraud, claiming to have designed the A-10 (amongst other aircraft) when in fact he had absolutely nothing to do with it. Boyd claimed to have designed the F-15, when in actual fact he proposed a ‘red bird’ alternative to the ‘blue bird’ program where absolutely none of his design changes were adopted. The F-15 then became the most successful air-to-air platform in NATO. And the OODA loop is over complicated garbage. The Reformers were self-aggrandising crackpots who’s ideas were stupid and virtually never implemented on any aircraft.
      Near as I can find (admittedly without doing much research and heavily relying on others who hopefully have), the only references to Boyd or Sprey or any of that lot having ‘designed’ a fighter aircraft are Coram’s book, which was essentially a PR piece by and for the Reformers. There are no references to back their ‘design’ claims outside of their close circle of mates.

    • @marcosantiago6818
      @marcosantiago6818 Рік тому

      @@grievesy83 Boyd was a very controversial figure. Yes - he has as many detractors as he has supporters. Name one biographical character in life and in cinema who does not inspire debate on the facts, merits, or character, and I'll show you a three-dollar bill. I think you may have missed the point and presume to know the story I'm telling. Even the materials that I've collected from Air Force archives, as well as Boyd's efficiency reports that are part of the dozen or so boxes of research at Quantico, are not all in alignment. I'm telling a story based on interviews with certain principals, and authors who wrote about him and his work, including Coram himself,, as well as my own research in aviation history - from WWII through Vietnam and beyond, in order to place his story in context. So although I respect your option, you presume to know the story I'm telling without even knowing my point of view or the types of creative license that I'll be taking as part of the telling. It's a little more complicated than what you presume. And that's what makes a compelling story.

    • @grievesy83
      @grievesy83 Рік тому

      @@marcosantiago6818
      Albert Einstein comes to mind.
      I did presume to know the story you would tell but, to be fair, that’s only because you described it yourself: “… props to John Boyd”, “his significant achievements” and acquiring the rights to Coram’s one-sided puff piece on which your production will be “based” (quotations are your words, not mine). You didn’t describe a production using Coram’s book as one of many reference materials, even if that is what you are ultimately doing. I genuinely hope the principals that you interview are not just Reformer fanbois, but include people who were actually involved in the design and development of the aircraft. Red Bird vs Blue Bird is a case in point.
      As I said earlier: I’m relying heavily on others here. I don’t know a lot about these guys, but the analyses I have heard are very convincing in their criticisms.

    Thank you for your service. I was in VF 111 sundowners f14 squadron many moons ago as a parachute rigger. I am working on my airshow demonstration in dcs world with the viper. When performing the 8 point roll, I am having problems with the nose sinking down in the middle of it (especially in the 4 point spot). Do you use some rudder deflection to the up hill to help prevent this?

    Not with the 4xM82s and long jammer Neo. Cant roll it to the max nor turn hard that way. Jett that out and compare. Even to me it seems that 16 bleeds energy faster and builds later or its just a perspective thing. Some people would appreciate DCS perf comparison to RL. I think its underrated a bit. Give us some MP matches when ready just use alt name there cos everyone will swarm you as bees to the honey. Sense up that head sensor too. You'll need it.

      Honestly they've done a good job of updating the F-16 in DCS. If you were just jumping in and choosing one based on overall quality, DCS wins. I flew BMS for a few years so I'm speaking from experience. The 16 is lacking some features but 90% of pilots, maybe more, wouldn't use those features or would have no need for them anyway in the sim. Sure, the flight model needs some tweaks but overall it's rock solid, and looks good.
