A little correction. The one you are flying in DCS has the GE 129 engine. We don't have the PW 229 in DCS. Other than that great video.
Yes, but his comments about the -229 are accurate since the model he actually flew with the Thunderbirds has the -229.
@@RedRoosterParty No it's not as he's talking about the DCS viper.
@@Pukin-Dog When he describes the Block 52 engine/aircraft combination, he is speaking from his experience which was 2+ years with the Thunderbirds. He came from F-15Es at Mountain Home which also have -229s, so that is the engine he is familiar with. No way can he make that determination solely with DCS. Regardless, Block 50 an 52 are very similar in performance.
@@RedRoosterParty He's CLEARLY talking about the DCS Viper. it's a review of the DCS viper. . Goes to external view and says "it's a sweet looking jet - it;s loaded out with the 229". He doesn't say "I used to fly with the 229". He then goes onto say "it's bleeding energy too fast. He clearly thinks this IS a block52 with the 229 engine.
You literally didn't go back and listen at at all. He mentions the 229 and says the modern F-16's block 52.
Been waiting for this!! Finally bit the bullet and got an entire cockpit and VR for dcs. It’s amazing. Makes me want to get my civilian license now lol.
Epic!
Entire Cockpit, damn that is Epic! Which cockpit did you get?
Apparently if you have your private pilot license you can front seat an L39 at some place in Nevada. That would almost be worth getting a license.
haha that's how I felt when I got my first flight sim (MSFS) as a teen (1983). Sixteen years later, I DID. Go for it!
Always enjoy dcs videos from those who did it for real. To learn the difference between the sim and real life and to get better at the game
Awesome thanks
Thanks for the video. ED has done a tremendous amount of work on the Viper over the last year. I'm not sure if you're aware, but Mover was extremely critical of the module about a year ago. It's has some major flight model enhancements and system updates since then. Its good to see that their work has paid off.
For sure! The energy bleed off was not as bad as I had heard it was
@@MaxAfterburnerusa cool. I heard they F18 was bad a couple if years ago.
@@MaxAfterburnerusa it was about a year ago. I think it was around update 2.8 that it got a power increase and started to be a real pain to fight against
@@MaxAfterburnerusa ED corrected it because at lauch the Viper was bleeding so much energy
@@Takardewho is ED?
I'm sure others have beaten this into the ground by now, but I'd love to hear your perspective on Falcon BMS. It's a mod for an older F-16 sim that's been a long-standing labor of love for its developers, and if your interest is in the viper specifically and you don't care as much about graphics it's honestly probably the best way to go.
How do you know someone play falcon bms?
Wait because they'll tell you to play it instead of dcs!
All jokes good Sims are good Sims much love to bms
Brother, watching you in the seat and seeing the muscle memory every time you load G, very cool to see you plant your head on the headrest. Mad props on your military history, your skill, and always acting like a professional.
the fact your training shows through your shot is so cool.. your shots were precise and consistent!!
I like how you put the funnel on the enemy, and how you take the shot. Very informative, a good lesson on how to do it.
Thank you!
Greetings,
Jeff
This was fun to watch, nice flying! Hey, as some others have said, you might want to turn up the gain on the pitch axis for your head tracking so you can look up more. DCS will let you look straight up, but your head tracker has to be tuned properly. You'll find it a lot easier to maintain visual on those bandits.
I'm so excited that this is happening! Thanks for sharing this with us!
I really like your DCS videos. I started a year ago with the F/A-18C and the A-10C. Next i ll try to learn Harrier and the F-16C. Maybe you could show us some missions, where we could see your considerations you take during an attack and the different situations that come up
Thx for the insight! I greatly appreciate this coming from a guy with this expertise!
Great stuff, subscribed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, looking forward for more videos!
Happiness is knowing that the F-16 Module in DCS gets a fighter-pilot seal of approval. Also note that we both use a webcam for head tracking. I try to put an hour into flying it every day...
It's best to take into an account that actual pilots view flight sims very differently than regular players.
@@ShadeAKAhayate That is very true, and certainly in the forefront of my mind.
I do fly sailplanes in summer, and design high performance flying model aircraft too - and, despite glider flying being the lest expensive way to fly, DCS is in turn the most accessible means of getting to grips with an F-16 (In addition to the stellar Falcon BMS 4.37 / Falcon 7.0-ish).
So if an actual F-16 pilot is sufficiently satisfied...that's a great thing to be aware of, and equally encouraging.
I have to say they have upgraded the engines recently. A lot more power! Great video. It is great to see actual fighter pilots having fun with this simulator 😎
I’m stoked for your breakdown of the F-15E
You sir, earned a sub. Thank you very much for this vid, and also sharing some insight about formation flying. I always struggled with it in DCS, but i will try your advice. I love the Viper and Eagle.
Yes! Keep the DCS content coming!
Love these simulator videos Ryan!!! So awesome to see it from a pilots perspective. 👍🔥🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I think it would be really cool to see you do a campaign when a good one is released! DCS campaigns are a lot of fun for me, since you have complex scripted missions, with briefing documents, voice overs, etc..
There’s one coming called “The Gamblers” for the Viper, and it’s based on an actual Viper pilot (think his callsign is ‘Rain’) and his experience in Syria in the mid 2010’s. It’ll be the first high-quality campaign for the Viper and I’m super excited for it. In the meantime maybe you could find a couple high-quality missions to fly? Maybe even in an older airframe? Whatever you end up doing though I’ll be excited to see it
Also, as a side note, I hope you try out VR soon! It might not be very conducive to content creation (wearing a headset while filming), but it makes everything feel a little more real, and it makes formation flying and especially tanking, much easier!
Heyya! That tip on PIO is golden! Thank you ☺️
The head tilts and other body language really shows me that flying is intertwined with your body it’s great and funny 😂 watching people who really truly know about the experience really makes the videos 100x more enjoyable
The head tilting is also because he's using a head tracker to look around
Getting closer with the head tracking. Some great vids out there on how to set up your tracking curves perfectly for DCS. Find the right vid and you'll have it spot on in less than an hour, and never have to touch it again. Crucial for the immersion to nail those curves and I cannot wait to see where you take us in DCS, SO much possibility.
love the videos, i found you from being a growling sidewinder fan.. keep up the great content!
Honestly, I do think Falcon BMS is more realistic. It may not fully implement absolutely everything an F-16 is capable of, but it does have a lot of flexibility as far as planning before every mission, which will be a big test in a dynamic campaign. it would be great to see a review of that if you are interested. I don't think you will be disappointed at all.
I will die of joy the day I see either Ryan or Mover play BMS.
@@gkky_ ikr is station's unfotanly I'm waiting on getting my gtx 1660 so I can actually run it smooth and I just bough a intel i7
Bla bla BMS... why? Go comment on BMS videos, who asked you about BMS? How in the world you see BMS as more realistic? The physics dont match, like there is no air. Did you try Viper in DCS? Stop spamming. I tell you something: If you have a trash PC and you want to get in, you go for BMS it cost 7 bucks. If you want to enjoy the F-16 or other like F-14/15/18 you cant go arround DCS, bombastic Graphic, bombastic physics and it looks way better, you feel the air under your wings. Stop fool other people, nobody will go and play a outdated sim. Dcs Dynamic campaign is comming, so what BMS?
@@ShqipeInfo-bc3ss I've tried both and bms is more realistic keep hating
@@ShqipeInfo-bc3ss I hope one day you learn about self-awareness, boy, it'll save you some humiliation. Thank you for the laugh tho.
As you were a F-15E pilot as well, looking forward to your Mudhen videos when it's released.
I'm sure you get asked this all the time, but once you're all used to dogfighting in DCS n stuff, you MUST fight Growling Sidewinder. You MUST! :)
GS would milk that out for weeks!
@@Qu4DSprayz As he should!
@@Qu4DSprayz and rightfully so! I'd love to see plenty of that stuff.
Although knowing GS, I think there'd be about 2-3 vids max abt this stuff.
He is a DCS Beast... in real he would colaps by 3-4 G, no chance in real. But in DCS he is a beast 🤣
@@ShqipeInfo-bc3ss I mean... yeah! GS is no trained fighter-pilot, so you'd think that's pretty obvious. And I don't see why you'd ever need to make that comment...
Awesome that your getting on DCS
This is terrific stuff. All the effort you put into this is paying off. This is the Most entertaining stuff on youtube in my view. Good Job, man! Ai will be the next gen pilots. I'd like to see how you'll fare when you battle Ai as the pilot.
Thanks Steve! Just scratched the surface here more to come!!
Impressive reflexes man, great job
Awesome content as usual, really fun to watch your expert insights. Keep up the great work and God Bless.
Your gunnery skills are certainly a lot better than me Sir! Nice video! Stay safe - blue skies!
F-16 is probably the next one I’m going to get. Squadron I’m with is carrier based and primarily flies F-18, but there are a few that have been wanting to do the Viper on some off days.
This is an awesome vid.! Love the growing channel. That loadout was nuts. How do ya'll train for the added weight of specific loadouts like this so you know how the bird performs with varying weights. Is it rather noticeable? Curious if they just load you up with inert ordnance.
Dear Sir, splendid stuff. Many thanks indeed for your passion and support. Kind regards, Nick
Love that you are using Tobii Eye Tracker! I love mine!
Excellent man spreading! Give those balls some air!
I want to try this game so bad with VR with the Yaw seat. I want the feel as close as possible. I have no idea on how to fly but looks like so much fun.
I enjoy your videos a lot. Thanks for making them for us mortals.
I don't know if you've heard of Falcon BMS, but that's my go-to for anything F-16. HIghly recommend and if you're interested, there's a huge community ready to help you set up the simulator
Dont know where you served but I live under the approach for Buckley SFB (used to be AFB and an ANG before that) we get daily Viper workouts love seeing it get busy!
Good stuff, can you compare this Block 50 F110-GE-129 beauty, in a clean setup how's his energy retention compares with a real one? Like for example in an horizontal STR maneuver near deck or 10k feet.
I find it awesome you were happy the pilot got out. True pilot.
Absolutely. There’s definitely mutual respect among fighter pilots. Plus I want them to get in another jet so I can shoot them down again 🤣
I think you should definitely try Falcon BMS v4.37. Wayyy better sim for F16
that's was awesome mister....ooohh man i'll watch most of your videos with pleasure...i like how you put your head on the seat...i don't know why,but i think its better to handle the force
Great video @Max, are you using some sort of face tracking to look around the cockpit? cheers 👍
You should dogfight growling sidewinder sir!
Man I want one of these sim set ups!
Thanks for the Tips!
You bet!
Would love to see you have a take on Growling Sidewinder in a dogfight with the DCS F16-C. That would be very entertaining I imagine.
probably very similarly to when GS flew against Até. in that one, Até hadn't really used DCS before, was using the mouse to look around or something on his laptop, and GS got the first round. after that it wasn't much competition, GS struggled from then on.
Very nice. The F-16 will always be my favorite jet fighter.
I'd be curious what you thought of Falcon BMS (which requires an inexpensive Falcon 4.0 purchase) which is a community driven F-16 sim.
Would love to see some fight collabs.
Nice video. Where are you resting your right thumb on the stick? I seem to be hitting the chaff/flare by accident on occasion...
I have it up near but not on the pickle button
Can you do a dog fight? Or would that make you use like classified stratagies? Do you have to censor yourself?
Watching you play this is awesome. I always wonder the differences from reality.
PIO is Pilot Induced Oscillations. DCS is great but you should definitely checkout Falcon BMS for an even more in depth sim.
Look cool, sound cool, be effective.
Max Afterburner motto
Spectacular content. You should consider flying or a duel with Growling Sidewinder of Grim Reapers ✈
Love to see it
There's a DCS channel here who has done some videos with other actual fighter pilots, and apparently all of them seem to think the one problem with DCS is that planes bleed energy a little faster than in reality, so that seems to be a common theme with people who have flown the real thing
Would love to see you fly the F-16 in MSFS as well. I believe it's not as accurate or as well simulated based on what others have said, but I do think it'd be interesting to see your overall take on at least some of the positives.
Awesome content
I can't wait till you get ur hands on the f15 e
That’s really nice seeing a real F16 pilot trying DCS, and like it.
But, sorry, a need to make you a question… what kind of head tracking are you using??? It looks really smooth, and comfortable.
Many thanks for this video.
Great hug!
Based on the way he is moving I'm guessing its Tobii 5, at least something similar. It's what I use so the responsiveness and everything looks similar to mine. People give it mixed reviews, especially for DCS but I like it. Especially since I don't need to wear anything on my head for it. I will say thought that I use FaceTrackNoIR to tune it instead of the native software.
I’ve always loved the F-16. I know it’s not the most advanced or maneuverable but I still love it
Super realistic sim. Enjoyed it.
Nice Video... i am actually learning flying in DCS with the Viper. I learned how to start/shut down and land the jet. I am working like learning by doing and its worth the time. i actualy got all Jet Modules, like F-14/15/16/18 Mirrage, A-10 etc. I have no idea how much years it will take to fly all those jets 🤣
Good stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Max, you should look at your headtracking software and set the sensitivity a bit higher. It looks like you are using the default settings which mean you move your head a lot, and the camera in the game only moves a bit.
Good shootin
Another f-16 sim game to look at is BMS. It is a 20+ year passion project mod for the old school game falcon 4.0. It's often on sale for $3.49 ($6 full price so not bad at all regardless). The f-16 is fully modeled/detailed and has multiple fully realized blocks of f-16s. The one downfall is the graphics aren't as good- BUT! This year they aim to release a huge patch that updates all materials and graphics along with a fully realized/detailed f-15C (for free). Worth a look!
oh interesting.. I was having a look on it 2 years ago... if it gets some decent modernisation done, it might be very interesting.
Since they added VR to BMS, I haven't touched DCS. The dynamic campaign is still incredible 20+ years later. It's also more in-depth in many areas (like it has a functional ATC, unlike DCS).
@@theoldweaponstroop7441 I'm just starting to get into it. My buddy and I were laughing that it cost us $3.49 lmao I am really looking forward to their progress this year. Might be a serious shift in the war sim world. The people involved deserve it.
Thank you for your service. I was in VF 111 sundowners f14 squadron many moons ago as a parachute rigger. I am working on my airshow demonstration in dcs world with the viper. When performing the 8 point roll, I am having problems with the nose sinking down in the middle of it (especially in the 4 point spot). Do you use some rudder deflection to the up hill to help prevent this?
I like the action and your commentary. You have my like and comment, sir.
Just remember this is not exactly a 'review' per se, just commenting on the action.
And regarding your past remark on reluctance of commenting on the radar features because OPFOR is watching, you can comment on any of the game-implemented radar features, just not your actual experience or actual documentation. There were several cases when tank crew members were posting closed documentation on the game forums (ironically, a Russian game forums) to prove their point in an internet catfight, and these people got in trouble. But there's nothing wrong in discussing how _game_ radar works.
Hey! What kind of headtracking are you using? Looks really comfortable without any clip on your head.
Time for the GS server!! It’s crazy in there, best guys at BVR in the world (IMHO)👍👍
Do you have a certain curve setup on your joystick to help with formation flying / precision? It's something I'm struggling to be smooth with currently. Is your joystick base the thrustmaster warthog or another brand? Thanks.
Oh snap. I actually thought Falcon BMS might have been the simulator being evaluated here due to the title. There may be some snarky comments incoming.
I am a DCS player myself. But warning for ya Ryan, while Falcon BMS might have more advanced avionics replication for the F-16, it is not user friendly software to set up. Unless you’re a solid PC user guy, it will take some solid effort to get where you want with it.
I'm not sure if the "BMS user friendliness or lack of" part is valid anymore. It still has it's quirks, but once the Alternative Launcher became official BMS launcher it shouldn't be much more difficult to set it up than DCS. In fact it might be even easier, because contrary to DCS bare minimum approach, AL provides some sane defaults for most common flight sticks out there.
@@6XENO9 gonna call BS on this claim. I've tried to fly BMS substantially since 4.32 (+4 or so versions) attempting to use the alternative launcher when available, and use the other various new tooling to set it up and it still remains something that's never come close to fully working for me. The best I've gotten was the utter basic flight controls, and questionable if the throttle-idle-AB behavior was acceptably mapped. I see that the tool is supposed to be able to do it in some easy way, but it never quite works and behaves I need it to. I've read the READMEs. Controls are not saving most of the time, and they never are close to sane defaults for my very popular flight sim hardware (CM3, WW-F16 EX, CougarMFDs). For reference, "almost there" is nowhere if you have a full HOTAS + pedals. At the end of the day, you have to scan through just about every thing ensuring certain other devices are not bound to something silly.
I'm a software engineer with hobbies in video and photo editing, so complex software is not a thing for me. BMS tooling is a mess and a joke compared to DCS. I shouldn't have to damn near know exactly how BMS is coded to set it up and use it sanely.
If you want to make your f-16 act like it should in your hotas response go to your axis control settings and with roll and pitch slightly work in negative curvature like start with -10 roll -5 pitch rudder is preference i personally dont have pedals but run a negative -3 on my rudders
It's only a matter of time until there's a dogfight vid with Growling Sidewinder :)
Any chance your store can deliver to the UK? Would love to grab a T-shirt!
Hey Bro. I am curious... You having cockpit experience in F16, is the throttle and stick so far off to the side? I thought they are placed much closer. You are the SME on your rig and jet experience. Would like your experience on this matter.
Out of curiosity, do you use pitch and roll axis curves, or do you leave it linear?
Winwing makes a sweet viper throttle!
What curve do you run on your throttle? I want to have more control when flying formation or re-fueling.
@growlingsidewinder needs to take notes on the gunnery. 😂
This was a bummer. What I really wanted to watch is how you get in the control zone
I hear fighter pilots talk about fighting in the phone booth. Would love to see that somehow
Great video sir. Which head tracking solution do you use? I've been using TrackIR, but I haven't really dialed it in to my liking yet.
I'm pretty sure he is using Tobii 5 or something similar. It's what I use so the fact that he has nothing on his head is an indicator. The movements need tuning. Overall it has mixed reviews as far as user experience but I prefer it over my TrackIR because I don't want to wear clips. I will say though that I tune it using FaceTrackNoIR. It makes it a little slower to respond but my head isn't as "floaty" in the cockpit.
@@co-opgamercouple7689 Cheers for the info!
HI, have you ever tried Falcon BMS?
Are you gonna check out the F-15E when it comes out
Would be great to see you do a team up with either "Growling Sidewinder" or "Longshot".
What head tracking device are you using?
What are you using for tracking? Tobi?
I thought you were playing BMS 4.37. Nevermind😅
You should fly wingman or vs Growling Sidewinder 😮
Ryan, hi! Could you please give us your feedback regarding the F-16 flight model in DCS and BMS? Which one is more realistic? In DCS, it drains energy very quickly when maneuvering at >5G, and in BMS it is more maneuverable and holds energy better. P.S. Thank you very much for your hard work and amazing content! I always watch your videos with great pleasure!
Lol I never finish ai dogfights that fast in dcs. Interesting to see
what hotas are u using and do u recommend it for my first hotas?
Almost every military pilot that has tried DCS said, the air feels a little thick and you lose energy too fast. Did you ever get your rudder pedals working?
Those cannon skills....
Damn second consecutive "like" on a video that I was 666, that's wierd. Would love to see you try VR and give us your perspective!
