Junbh2, it varies on the level and completion of injury. An incomplete quad has some level of impairment in all four limbs. Not necessarily complete paralysis.
@junbh2 They have different levels of injury (different areas of the spine). The higher the injury, the more paralysis. So their arms and hands are affected, they usually lack triceps. Meaning the can't grip at all or as tightly as the rest.
In short, quads have a loss of function in all 4 limbs. some can't move at all below the neck. others are more like these guys-much more mobile and having more arm/hand function.
@Algonquin81 same. except you threw the ball against the wall and who ever fumbled the tennis ball had to go up against the wall while everybody threw a tennis ball at them.
I think we use our frustration about the weather. I don't play, but have done photography & videography at a minor level. Mercer is NOT playing this up. It's brutal!
In my high school boys gym class, our murderball was dodgeball except you can hit anywhere below the neck. This includes your crotch. Oh and we used volleyballs.
Too many people are offended too easily. Go a pair get over it and quit crying. I think it would be insensitive to pretend they are not paraplegic rather then to let people know that there nothing wrong with it. And obviously these guys don't care, they all have gotten over the fact they are paraplegic and used it to make something of themselves. So yes it is okay to treat them like a normal person, then to baby them like a child.
Quite frankly, watching this is terrifying from the side lines. I was, constantly, making sure I was back enough with my camera. Tripod, Camera, and, oh yeah. MYSELF.
OK, little thing, but it's confusing me. They keep using the words 'quad' and 'quadraplegic', but isn't a quadraplegic someone with paralysis in all FOUR limbs? I.e., who can't use their arms? But that's clearly not what they mean, because the guy can obviously use their arms. What am I missing?
Impairment in all 4 limbs so some their fingers don’t work well or shoulders and problems with their legs some disabilities are more severe than others why some carry the ball and others just get in the way and hit ppl
"nobody ever broke their neck in a library!"
Go Dave Willsie , love your view on life!!
"They're huge, eh?", so Canadian I love it
I went to good old RMC! Neat to see Rick there!

@carlingnugent no, its so they can go faster and turn a lot quicker. The hands still can get. I know from playing wheelchair basketball.
It's such a pleasant name.

Agreed. Before Mercer said anything, they were joking about it with him.

Does he really think it's okay to say something like this?
Don't be so sensitive, the disabled gentleman had a smile on his face and so should you. It was a joke, this is a comedy show after all.
