Gimli: "What's happening out there?"
Legolas: "Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?"
Gimli: "Hehehehehehehe."
I remember Legolas going to find a box, but maybe that was in Lego, Lord of the Rings. (Very inaccurate by the way)
Gimli: "Never thought I'd die side by side with an elf."
Legolas: "What about side by side with a friend?"
Gimli: "I can do that!"
oh yeah, i forgot Aragorn was here
I love that scene
Welp! 🥺
What I find funny about the fact that the wood elves let golem go outside is that when it's recounted at the Council of Elrond Gloin remarks rather bitterly that nobody was that kind to him when the Dwarves were locked up in Mirkwood.
Poshboy pretty unfair haha
Gimli: I have taken my worst wound at this parting, having looked my last upon that which is fairest. Henceforth I will call nothing fair unless it be her gift to me.
Legolas: What was her gift?
Gimli: I asked her for one hair from her golden head. She gave me three.
Please do Boromir he’s so human in his story and it would be wonderful to hear your take on his story.
"He [Gimli] is a very Dwarven Dwarf" Top description, wouldn't know what to imagine him as without that...
Gimli: Legolas, two already!
Legolas: im on 17!
Gimli: Aaahh! I'll have no pointy eared elf outscoring me!!
It is written in Silmarilion that dwarves after death "dwell in the halls of Mahal untill the fate of the world is fullfiled" if I remember correctly.
RubberKidney - To be more precise, it is said that that is what the dwarves themselves believe. Whether or not that is actually true is unclear.
One of the best crafted friendships in Tolkiens mythology.
Thank you for the video Arachir.
I believe it says in the Silmarillion that the Dwarves will come back with Aule and repair the hurts of the world after the great end of days battle. I say this with about %80 surety. Gimili In Moria is where I started to really enjoy his character. He really displayed this cultural pride that was somehow fascinating. Additionally, you did a very nice job with the video.
Name a more iconic duo, I’ll wait.
Lithpy Larry Batman and Robin, but nothing beats Merry and Pippin
Tyler Keller Batman and Robin got nothing on Gimli and Legolas what yu on about
Lithpy Larry agreed
Melkor and Sauron? 😁 one duo to rule them all
Viktor A but Legolas + Gimli assist greatly in taking down the duo (not including Morgoth, but they assisted greatly in taking down Sauron)
tis always a good day when Arachîr Galudirithon uploads a lore video
"Since they were to come in the days of the power of Melkor, Aulë made the Dwarves strong to endure. Therefore they are stone-hard, stubborn, fast in friendship and in enmity, and they suffer toil and hanger and hurt of body more hardily than all other speaking peoples; and they live long, far beyond the span of Men, yet not for ever. Aforetime it was held among the Elves in Middle-earth that dying the Dwarves returned to the earth and the stone of which they were made; yet that is not their own belief. For they say that Aulë the Maker, whom they call Mahal, cares for them, and gathers them to Mandos in halls set apart; and that he declared to their Fathers of old that Ilúvatar will hallow them and give them a place among the Children in the End. Then their part shall be to serve Aulë and to aid him in the remaking of Arda after the Last Battle. They say also that the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves return to live again in their own kin and to bear once more their ancient names: of whom Durin was the most renowned in after ages, father of that kindred most friendly to the Elves, whose mansions were at Khazad-dûm."
-The Silmarillion, Of Aule and Yavanna
Just found this one. Played each of the others twice probably by now. Arachir my friend this is good good stuff man
Thank you and cheers!
Thanks. :)
Excellent lore video as always. The best LOTR content on UA-cam.
"I've got ma axe imbedded in his nervous system!"
for the Borimir video, you could extend it to the normal 45-60 minute length by including Faramir and Denethor II, just have a big exploration of that family
One possible reason he takes up position in back is because he’s really the fellowship’s only ranged person. He would be less valuable in front of the swordsmen. The fact he can see far also make it wiser so as to keep him from getting hit by orcs.
Hey Galu, first off all let me thank you for the wonderful video and for the perfect mod which is DaC. I really love playing it.
I think you might have missed on a small detail about the gift Gimli received from Galadriel. In the First Age, Feanor asked Galadriel three times for a single strand of her hair, and three times Galadriel refused him. I really like how Gimli the dwarf managed to get THREE strands from Galadriel, while the Hight King of the Noldor couldnt get a single one :)
Love from Bangladesh
Keep uploading these lore videos please a ur the most knowledgeable person ive found up until now who knows so much and i really enjoy ur explanations so please upload videos more frequently when u get the time
Do remember that Legolas’ fearlessness in the paths of the dead is not due to any courage or merit of his own. The spirits of men are not strong enough to harm elves so he really had nothing to fear there (he even says this himself). If anything, Gimli was the brave one along with Halbarad and the rest of the northerners since they continued even though they were fearful and could be harmed (maybe) by the spirits.
The scene that sticks out for me is when Legolas was willing to die defending the Company against his fellow elves. Probably won a lot of points in Gimli's book.
I love these video. Really love listening to them. Love the LOTR lore and massively jealous you can talk sindarin... But the sound makes me sad. I'd love to help with it. You are in desperate need of some compression and a decent interface. This would take out the fan buzz I can hear in every vid (apart from this one) and stop the huge changes in volume. If you can send me a sound file I can show you the difference. Also a better room would make a huge difference. It sounds like you are in a cave. Don't want to seem negative as the content is amazing. I'd just love to help with production. Any way if you message me I can help if you want it. Cheers.
Gimli:Hey Legolas, two already!
Legolas:I got 17!
Subscribed a while ago because of these lotr lore videos. Keep up the great work!
Love your videos. Can we get a spotlight on the history of men in the first age ? Barahir, Beren ect.
Would also like to hear about the first men and how they ended up in beleriand.
Cheers.
Interestingly, it was mentioned, that Legolas should never finden peace under the trees again, after encountering the sea. . . But he stays in middelearth never the less for quite some time unwillig to leave Gimli
Thanks, Galu...
i just finished the fellowship of the ring and i'm currently on the two towers the book i would definitely recommend if you like the movies and lotr been on the channel for a while galu keep up the good work.
Given how much Tolkien shaped the Fantasy genre, one might say that Gimli isn't a stereotypical dwarf, but stereotypical dwarves are Gimlis.
Lol when Legolas tells the council that they let Gollum be outside, Gloin says that "you showed less kindness to us!" and then Gandalf is like "ye Gloin don't-don't be a dick, we need to collaborate with Stalin for now..."
Hey galu have you covered the life of smeagol yet?
its so strange to me that after so many decades we still have no idea what happens to dwarves when they die. in this intricatly completed universe that tolkien created, he just never told us what happens when dwarves die. tbf thats not the only secret the dwarves still keep, but it may be the biggest
2BuckChuck The only hint we have about that is what is written in the silmarillion. The dwarves themselves hold the belief that their father Mahal (Aule) cares for them and has carved a special place in the halls of mandos just for them where they will wait, until it is their time to help Aule in rebuilding the world after the Dagor Dagorath. But that is what the dwarves think so theres no way of knowing if thats true.
All people's are represented in Valinor. The Valor needed a Dwarf to come full circle.
Do Boromir and Faramir at the same time?
Cristian Marcus Yes please! He could draw parallels and compare them since they are/have contrasting personalities.
Gimli and Legolas lived happily ever after in Valinor, as hetero life partners. The end.
Would not quite call them hetero, Gimli worships Galadriel but not even that in an actualy romantic way, but beside that . . . Nothing mentioned. They stay togeather forever and Legolas does not meet up with the other elves in Valinor, but sails with Gimli. No relationships with any ladyelve or dwarven lady mentioned. With no romantic/loveinterest you can't ready call them hetero, what means beeing interessted in the opposit sex, which neither of them showed. Beeing hetero or banging your samesexfriend also are not the only options. They could have been gay without any need of mentioning it, hetero but their love for eachother outshined every romantic interest, asexuell but romanticly involved or asexual and aromantic Sound in platonic love. We don't know and we don't need to know, all we need to know is what we know, they loved eachother. Case closed!
@@SingingSealRiana there are very few dwarf women so it's not unsurprising that Gimli was still single because like Legolas he's young for his kind at the time of Fellowship. In the text Tolkien makes obvious that Gimli does have male admiration for Galadriel in yet another example of how his soul is more respectful and pure than Feanors. In general Tolkien describes only a few examples of sexual admiration oddly one of them being Melkor for Luthien. Theirs is a world less concerned with "shipping"
@@tiffanyl4829 . . .yeah, this is why Frodo totaly shipped Sam with Rosie, and Eomer and Gimli talked about their fancrushes on elvenladys . . . shipping is not simply picturing people in compromising situations, Gimli and Legolas stayed togeather forever!!! This is no Gimli just was to young to already have a ladylove, it was forever! They are the love of their lifes, purely unconditonal love, case closed. Even if both where asexuel, they still could have this
YES my favorite two badass and best friends thank you for this lore vid!
Turns out his name is Laiqualassë
Having lunch to a Galu lore video. Bliss
Legolas really is sorta silly. You'd think the others would be annoyed with him calling them children if he wasn't goofy sometimes. There's a time he starts singing a song and doesn't actually remember the whole thing and has to bail. You'd think an elf would have a better memory.
And of course Galadriel insisting on giving all of them gifts but Gimli doesn't want to be given anything because he doesn't want to be rude is always a great part. Especially when you know she practically causes a scandal when she gives him, a dwarf, her hair which she refused feanor of all people.
I live for these lore videos
If I remember correctly it was never stated what color Legolas's hair was.
It is the belief of the dwarves themselves that Mahal (Aule) cares for them, and gathers them to the halls of Mandos in places set apart, and that Eru Illuvatar will give them a place in the second music, where they will aid Aule their lord in rebuilding the world.
Perhaps Boromir & Faramir? Obviously, Faramir’s not in the fellowship, but he’s a rather important character and could tie in with Boromir.
Excellent, as usual my friend. A barrel of the finest pipe-weed to you, good sir.
Thank you - I look forward to your 'lore' videos very much
13:27 He was born in the Blue Mountains.
Me: COUNTRY ROAAAAAAD, TAKE ME HOOOOOOOOOME
The second chapter of The Silmarillion, telling about Aulë and Yavanna, reads that the Elves believe that the Dwarves return to the stone of Arda from which they were first made; though the Dwarves themselves hold that because of Aulë's care for them, their souls are gathered separately in Mandos, to be blessed by Ilúvatar and to be gifted a place among His Children at the End to help heal the wounds of the earth after the Dagor Dagorath (hereby announced in the Silmarillion)
how cool would it be if they made a movie about the aftermath of lotr starring gimli and legolas? and they make it west and aren't permitted? unless they do something? like kill some last leader of orcs? or vanquish the remanence of sauron? bringing along eldarion, aragorn's son to learn how to lead? idk i can't see it being award winning but good and still providing some closure the books did... and better than the hobbit movies... they can still keep it lore accurate and add some of their own story... and maybe gimli still ins't permitted after and legolas deciedes to stick around with gimli too? idk. i see a lot of potential here, i need more lol
You should do a vid on the Barrow Wights.
24:00 Dwarves go to the halls of Mandos and wait there for the end of the world, to help build the next one.
I just discovered your channel very recently, admittedly mostly through your awesome lore discussions! Can you please consider going through all the ones you've made and adding them to a playlist? You've make so many videos between each one that it's nearly impossible to find the ones from 1-2 years ago. I basically have to rely on UA-cam's algorithm to find a random lore video for me
They are in a playlist. Every video is in a playlist. Answer me just one question. Did you even look for a playlist before you asked this?
Go to the playlists or the channel homepage where the playlists are all listed.
Arachîr Galudirithon oh there is one, awesome! I did look for it, but I guess I didn't look through the two extensions you have to click on first. You're the best
Oh great master of lore. Mercy me, who is but a slimy worm bathing in the light of yours, but I have a single proposal:
You have added videos into this playlist of yours according to the date you have uploaded them, as far as I can tell. This used to be fine, but for some reason, youtube plays the playlist according to that order, newest added to oldest. Which means, that videos with parts (For example, your Gondolin videos) are naturally displayed in the order of 2. to 1 were a viewer of yours to autoplay the playlist. Another example, your Battles of the third age videos, are ordered 5-4-3-2-1 in this playlist.
As far as I know, youtube doesnt have a "Flip playlist order" button, but then again I'm not a youtuber so it might be there for you. Regardless, could you see if you can sort it out? Perhaps manually fixing the order. Just one of those quality of life things.
U have a great channel brother & ur content is awesome. I really appreciate ur level of detail. Ur 1 of the best at this man & history is detail among other things. But yes, the more detail the better i say lol.
This friendship makes me cry
I thought in one of your earlyer lore videos you said auley (misspelt) build the dwarves their own little spot in the halls of mandos
Thanks for this. I love the lore videos.
Good one
Are we sure that Gimli (and other non elves who go to valinor) live only their normal life span there? I always imagined they would live there forever with the elves.
yes please do boromir next time he is my favourite lotr character :)
You are amazing. Great work.
Gimli ISHKHAQWI ILSAI DURUGGNUL!!
(I spit upon your grave)
ARAGORN: (slapping his hand on Gimli's shoulder) That! was not so courteous!
I always watch ur lore vids and hope u have a good day great vid so I will support all ur content!
Did you know that on September 22nd this year it will officially be 1000 years before Frodo leaves Hobbiton and The Lord of The Rings gets under way. I want to do something huge for it but I have no clue what :(
It says in the silmarillion that dwarves are kept separate from the humans in there own halls of the dead that aule made
Dáin, ignoring emails before it was cool. @15:33
13:25 you said we don't know who Gimli's father was...but you have Gloin in the description!
I said mother.
@ Sorry - bad hearing :-)
I love these videos so much.
Good video... however. Aman is also called “the undying Lands” I think that means while there they will not age/die.... that is my thought / food for the fire... your thoughts?
Yes another lore video. 😁👍🏻
This guy is so cool hopfully someone take him to cast the lord of the ring tv show
Lore video!! Yessss
Also souls of dwarves return to some halls of äule that he has separatly set up, and will aid in the creation of the new world after the end where Melkor breaks free again and is defeated once and for all. They really do have a bullshit, ill thought through, afterthought role in the great plan of illúvatar...
24:33 pure speculation as I have yet to read the books, but would it not be interesting if the dead dwarves souls somehow become the indestructable rock from which the base of orthanc and protective wall of minas tirith is made?
Is it possible that Gimli never did die? For is not Valinor called "The Undying Lands"? That would go away if even one death of natural causes would occur there. And who knows what arrangements Mithrandir may have made
Plz make a Lore of Middle-earth play list for the channel thanks!
There is one. It is on the homepage, it is on the playlist page, it is listed on the side of these videos when you watch them. I simply cannot make it more obvious.
OK sorry i was looking for a Lore of Middle-earth titled play list. non the less thanks for responding. And thank you for all the great lore videos!!!
Binging these 👌👌
Amazing. 💚
If you're doing the members of the fellowship, do some hobbit lore? The species, not the book
I always thought that the messenger to erebor was the mouth of sauron. I'm probably forgetting something, but is there anything that says it isn't him?
Gumli and Legoland
Goodass video
Legolas laegolas hmm yes 2:40
Yes finally
And they all sailed West and became native americans.
Until the asians crossed the bearing strait.
Ooo
Edward if you wanted to know when Legolas was bron it was TA 87 just search it up on the internet
That is not correct. That will be a fan theory or guess at best. Tolkien never gives his birth date.
Also, where I am from, it is very bad manners to use a persons first name if you are not on familiar terms with them.
Follow up to my original point:
"In the official movie guide for The Lord of the Rings, a birthdate for Legolas is set to TA 87."
The official movie guide is not canon.
Fair play for making the video, butcmon man you don’t know the name of the mountains? Stop recording and research it then?😩🤦🏻♂️
Middle earth's first LGBTQ couple...
Best gay romance in Arda, right there!
