  • ESL Lesson Plan 101: How to Make an ESL Lesson Plan for ESL Learners: In this video I will be demonstrating the process of lesson planning for English teachers with an ESL lesson plan template. How to write an ESL lesson plan for English language learners has all of the same components as a traditional lesson plan template. In this part 1 with this ESL lesson plan, I clearly outline how to write an ESL language objective that corresponds with a content objective. How to write a lesson plan for elementary, middle, and high schools will also take on a similar ESL planning approach. It is my sincere hope that in this how to write a lesson plan youtube video, you feel more confident about how to write a lesson plan objective for your English language learners.

      I am from Virginia. I am teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th ESL classes. I teach 50 minute virtual classes every day. I would like some help with virtual planning to hit all domains. Or should I focus on two domains per lesson.

    • @TheLanguageLady
      @TheLanguageLady  3 роки тому

      @@kathleendrummond5909 I would aim for hitting all 4 domains in each lesson, however, it is not always necessary for it to be an effective lesson.
      Here is an example of a lesson that hits all domains:

    I started them off with word study, vocabulary, writing, then reading. I spend like thirty minutes, so I teach the vocabulary quickly. When I read the story, I go over the vocabulary again and get into the reading. For the writing, I get them started on the different types of essays just briefly going over it. I just am very limited in time to 30 minutes.
    As for the lesson planning, I am lucky to have an administration that doesn’t focus on that, but how you will teach them to the students. They are ok with just a brief overlook schedule type of lesson plan.

    I have been teaching ESL to adults for a couple decades now and was recently offered what feels almost impossible but there is an enormous need. This is extracurricular, outside the school district for children of non English speaking, newly arrived parents. My teammates speak Creole and some Spanish; some children speak two languages but most speak little to no English. My teammates have some teaching experience but not ESL. My students range in age from about 6 to 16. I am desperate to find help/guidance/materials/activities… to give my absolutely precious, mostly very bright students the leg up to be able to strut their intelligence and get the respect and teacher involvement/ investment they need to shine academically! I’ve watched two of your beginner videos that I just found and WILL watch the rest in n the next few days but have to run teach my class now. Thank you so much again!!💕

I'm a high school EL teacher in Ohio, working with co-teachers and my own EL workshop for intermediate ELs. Unfortunately my district doesn't provide curriculum or pacing guides for EL. We are pretty much expected to design the entire curriculum and make our own pacing guides so I must admit I am very lost, floating in an ocean of options when it comes to coming up with all of this on my own. I have a masters in TESOL but am still struggling. I keep thinking where to begin? All of my students are very different in terms of language ability and don't share the same language background. Hi! Thank you for this video. I am entering my second year (first full year) as an ESL teacher. We do not have an ESL curriculum in my district. I discovered Stepping Stones by CI Liftoff halfway through the year. I want to map out a solid curriculum for this year. I pull my students out and occasionally push in. Many teachers expect that I will take their lessons and differentiate them or work one-one with the students on them. However, it has always been my understanding that I should be teaching my own content - English, and should be creating my own lessons. I can assist teachers with sheltering the instruction, but should my lessons be using their content? This is where I get confused.

    • @TheLanguageLady
      @TheLanguageLady  Рік тому

      Your lessons should use the language of the content. For example, if its a science lesson about global warming and let's say the students are going to read a text and respond and shwere with a partner, ask yourself what vocabulary, syntax, idioms, phrases, etc need to be taught for students to be able to speak and write in connection with the lesson. If you are teaching your own content, make sure that students are practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I shared my scenarios because I coteach. If you are on your own, its different.

    Hello I am from EL Salvador..and I am trying to start adequating planning in my school, in your experience what should a LP should incluye en general, for an English Language learner, I see you talk about content though my teaching focuses only on the language adquisition...am i behind New trends?

      Hello! It's great to connect with someone from El Salvador who is passionate about English language teaching. When planning lessons for English Language Learners (ELLs), it's crucial to focus on language acquisition. While content is important, language skills are at the core of effective communication.
      In your lesson plans, consider incorporating activities that emphasize the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Tailor your lessons to provide ample opportunities for language practice and interaction. Also, integrate cultural elements to make the language learning experience more engaging.
      Stay current with new trends by exploring teaching methodologies that prioritize language acquisition. Strategies like communicative language teaching, task-based learning, and immersive language experiences can be beneficial for ELLs.
      Remember, every learner is unique, so adapt your lesson plans based on the specific needs and proficiency levels of your students. Feel free to explore technology tools and resources that support language acquisition as well.
      If you have any specific questions or need more guidance on adapting your lesson plans, I'm here to help! Best of luck with your teaching journey in promoting English language acquisition

I teach K-5 in 2 schools and feel like I’m randomly teaching skills and not necessarily in the correct order. Thank you.
