Wow..... It's very satisfying That vanhalen wasn't mentioned..... I'm gonna dance the night away.... Listening to rice with angel's.... Shawn Lane is beyond anyone else.
That was fantastic brother. Thank you for putting this together for everyone to enjoy.And thank's to my boy TTROff for sending this to me. Very cool to put the effort into helping show Guthries amazing versatility. Hat Tip bro..
My Guthrometer is showing my GG powerplant revolving at about 5K rpms right now-great stuff. Now I have to go listen to some of Guthrie's original tunes, which should put it in the 6K range, and then back to the Shawn Lane videos I had lined up when you drew my attention to Guthrie. It's a tough life;)
Thank you both for the kind words! Consider my back firmly patted. More Guthrie will certainly be on the way in the near future, we all need our latest fix eventually.
OmG his shawn lane playing.... spot on. Thats not as easy as any of those other players... EJ included! Of course I've known for a while EJ and Lane are some of GG's biggest influences. Excellent!
Notice how despite all the technical wizardry going on in most of the tracks AC/DC's simplicity still sounds as good as any of them. Guthrie Govan is a gift to the guitar world.
Man, he's got Angus' tone, but still being the best guitarist in the world, he couldn't nail Angus' crazy vibrato... That speaks a lot about Angus, he's a much greater guitarist than many people think, ya know, although he plays all those 'simple' blues licks... They may be simple, but I never heard anyone make those simple licks sound so gigantic as they are when Angus plays them!
Unfortunately not my friend, although strangely enough I used to have the backing track - not now. I think I have Dave Kilminster's excellent rendition of Boston Rain somewhere though.
Random observation but I quite like how SRV quickly (unintentionally on my part) turns blue at 1:16 - quite apt considering his mastery of his chosen style...
Nay problemo, I've material for a few more Guthrie specials up my sleeve in the near future. I see you found the Cornford clips as discussed on the Get You Back vid - the most sickening thing is he probably does it all off the bat! Basically, he's a git.
The Cliffs of Dover intro is played almost exactly like the original, but still doesen't sound remotely like Eric Johnson. Thats one thing that is great about music, the great players have their soul come out through their playing and even the great master Guthrie can't have more than one soul.
Well what I'm talking about exactly, is at 6:08. When all the technical madness comes in, Guthrie couldn't play it anywhere near Shawn's level. Not trying to say Shawn is better because he is more technical but i'm just saying Guthrie did not play Shawn's leads better. I like Shawn's tone better as well so it's all opinion so let's not argue. Besides Guthrie is my 3rd favorite behind Brett Garsed and Shawn.
I notice that on this series of covers and the other one that he doesn't take a stab at Allan Holdsworth. I'd be interested in hearing what he could do.
Shawn was a shredder though. Obviously he had more to his arsenal than that but shred is shred and I can't think of anyone who did it more intensely than him.
I'm a huge guthrie fan but I have to agree, didn't really capture his vibrato, it sounded more like he used his whammy bar.. just goes to show that anguys style is hard to replicate.
thats your problem you are a "shredder" Shawn was a musician of the highest caliber, him and Holdsworth are the 2 greatest guitarist to have lived in my eyes, he was as good a keyboardist as he was a guitarist also. For some great examples of his music and composition check out the tracks "Tri-Heaven" and "Time is the enemy/stellar rays"
Did you mean to say "can't" there? Because that 'can' there makes your whole comment a contradiction on itself. Guitar isn't all about 'I can play like Joe or Eric'. Every guitarist has their own style of playing. And Guthrie is just able to emulate part of their style. So what if Angus can play 1 or 2% or what Guthrie can? Who has made a bigger impact in the music industry? Not Guthrie, that's for sure. I love Guthrie, but I've known AC/DC, Joe, Eric and the others for longer.
who the fuck is john 5 anyway i saw him on the cover of guitar world and now hes super famous what is he supposed to be when i saw his pic i said to myself man this guy is probably metal but i was totally wrong
@laza023zr can ANgus doing cover of Guthrie??? hell no, but Guthrie can do cover of Angus, even you said not perfect, bullshit..........GUTHRIE IS THE BEST EVER.....................
Guthrie only gained fame because he practiced one song for like 6 months straight to get it sound good and videos like this boosted him up. It's a complete joke. If you would ask him to play a song he didn't rehearse for months he probably would just give up right away. Besides, how many songs by him does any1 know?
You obviously don't know how to use the Google. GG has tons of original songs that are well known in the guitar community. GG is a 'guitarists guitarist' which is maybe why you know nothing about him.... But here.. since you can't find it..... ua-cam.com/video/J503OvHWKko/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
You crazy !!! He was working for guitar magazines in the 90's winning guitarist of the year out of thousands. He gained fame on youtube by wowwing with his One of a kind improvisation that is unparalleled IMO and also his solo album Erotic Cakes is one of the best guitar Albums going 👌
I know Guthrie is capable of pure magic, but there are times he still catches me off guard and make me say "Whoa"
Wow..... It's very satisfying
That vanhalen wasn't mentioned..... I'm gonna dance the night away.... Listening to rice with angel's.... Shawn Lane is beyond anyone else.

@JuanSaler Shawn Lane man!
Already have :) Would love the Shawn Lane and SRV tracks/BT/transcription from this video though!
Thanks Growlycake.Give yourself a pat on the back for compiling this.Please sir,can I have more?
Joe Satriani is hendrix, but mixed in Lydian. 👍
Thank you both for the kind words! Consider my back firmly patted. More Guthrie will certainly be on the way in the near future, we all need our latest fix eventually.

And this, my friends... is music.

Guthrie is SICK and his renditions are AWESOME..
This guy is a machine! A complete genius>
no matter how many times I add this to my favorites it aint there when I come back. Its saying it has been added but it hasn't. Weird!
@kalmahman48 he is the guitarist for rob zombie. But he has very strange music but some of it is pretty cool like bluegrass licks mixed with metal
I would love to see him playing live covering up these songs....
@Growlycake
you have fine taste my friend!
wait, so its Guthrie who played ALL THESE ?? I actually thought i was listening to the original clips at one point :O :O
omg man guthrie does it again
Thank for this it''s amaizing!!!!!!!!!1
good point. he's all looks.
use to be the marylin manson guitarist back in the day, extremely underrated.
@frannyp46
'Take it off the Top' by the Dixie Dregs, featuring my own personal favourite, Steve Morse.
Unfortunately not my friend, although strangely enough I used to have the backing track - not now. I think I have Dave Kilminster's excellent rendition of Boston Rain somewhere though.

Basically, he's a git.
Re: the pic of Eric Johnson at the beginning, looks like he borrowed his suit from David Byrne. :)
epic covers, epic title
I think I can hear that he aint changing guitars much. The srv just didn't sound enough like a fender.
Very welcome! There will be more Guthrie to follow in the future hopefully to keep all our Guthrometers at a safe level ;)
Where did you get these covers? Does he cover them in full?
He sure as fuck couldn't play Shawn Lane's lead better.
The Cliffs of Dover intro is played almost exactly like the original, but still doesen't sound remotely like Eric Johnson. Thats one thing that is great about music, the great players have their soul come out through their playing and even the great master Guthrie can't have more than one soul.
I AGREE WITH U GUTHRIE IS THE BEST
@myrg450 He's done Holdsworthian stuff, more as examples as opposed to straight covers.
Well what I'm talking about exactly, is at 6:08. When all the technical madness comes in, Guthrie couldn't play it anywhere near Shawn's level. Jason Becker și Shawn Lane end Tony MacAlphine...🙏🤗🎸🎸🎸💪
You finally nailed EJ! You are now officially the greatest player that has ever lived on the planet earth.
I notice that on this series of covers and the other one that he doesn't take a stab at Allan Holdsworth. I'd be interested in hearing what he could do.
5:55 no sabia que limpieza de grupo tocaba guitarra :v
2:10 that vibrato
Shawn was a shredder though. Obviously he had more to his arsenal than that but shred is shred and I can't think of anyone who did it more intensely than him.
@solicitorgeneral02
The late great Shawn Lane.
why does the john 5 part sound like FF7's Chocobo race theme?
I'm a huge guthrie fan but I have to agree, didn't really capture his vibrato, it sounded more like he used his whammy bar.. just goes to show that anguys style is hard to replicate.
Does anybody know the tune at 1.32?
@solicitorgeneral02
Pretty much the only guy who impresses me as much as Guthrie and Alex Hutchings
you can kinda tell it him if you listen to enough of his music :)
Bieber is the realisation of man in a world of reason
Guthrie playing Scuttle Buttin', my life is now complete.
I would like to see how easily could Guthrie learn a song
Eric Daoud he doesn't learn, just plays
Bieber is one of the most technically advanced musicians of our time
thats your problem you are a "shredder" Shawn was a musician of the highest caliber, him and Holdsworth are the 2 greatest guitarist to have lived in my eyes, he was as good a keyboardist as he was a guitarist also.

@epicchicken220 Shawn Lane

I thought the keyboard and fiddle were all STeve morse. in the what if album...
Wow his satch rendition is so damn accurate I can't tell it's not satch...
G Blk it was just so different from Satch.. Listen carefully
The only bit guthrie couldn't get was EJ's tone.. other than that - I believe he is god.
was this all guthrie? Really?
He didn't play better than Shawn Lane, nobody does.
What is the specific comparison that makes you so sure? What specifically did Shawn do better, or that Guthrie cannot? Sincere question.
I have never heard anyone play as fast as shawn lane, he picks faster than sweden lets immigrants in in their country.
@@zaccyo nimeni niciodată nu poate fi la fel de bun ca Shawn Lane...nici măcar ca Jason Becker
@@lucianmunteanu8751 English please brother?
Correct and shawn lane coulfnt play guthrie better than guthrie. It's as simple as that. Both legends end of.
i'm not fond of his playing either. but he can't be overrated since that many people like him he is obviously doing something right
SRV is SRV... noone can copy that blue's soul jajajaja...
Cheers
Merry Christmas!!
He fucking nailed that SRV my friend!
zaccyo he nailed it, but anyway, nobody can do the SRV like SRV
@epicchicken220 Unarguably the greatest guitar player to have walked this earth: Shawn Lane
@solicitorgeneral02
he can almost hit Shawn Lane perfectly but not Quite. RIP LANE
I AGREE WITH U GUTHRIE IS THE BEST EVER !!!
Guthrie's videos call "i can do better then ...." don't need that. Don't play better, please write better... write...
Amazing on the whole, but he's certainly quite a way off on Angus' vibrato.
who the fuck is john 5 anyway i saw him on the cover of guitar world and now hes super famous what is he supposed to be when i saw his pic i said to myself man this guy is probably metal but i was totally wrong
guthrie govan covers all these songs better than the originals
+superdog797 Nobody cover better than the original :)
+phosphore éxcept your MOM
Well, covers can be better originals some times.
ᶘoᴥoᶅ best guitarist on the planet
Not better than Shawn's "Get you back".
@laza023zr can ANgus doing cover of Guthrie??? hell no, but Guthrie can do cover of Angus, even you said not perfect, bullshit..........GUTHRIE IS THE BEST EVER.....................
He didn't play it better than johnson.
thats not what your mrs recons
Nobody can touch SRV ,, Sorry guthrie But SRV Is Incridible
he couldnt
Sounds like you could
Boring. Maybe a vid of GG doing this would be more compelling
Don't believe it! This is just ripped copies! :-)
lol cummon dude brosephina
Not better than Shawn and Eric Johnson
Carlos Cunha damn stevie! You can't bend it like him!
Guthrie only gained fame because he practiced one song for like 6 months straight to get it sound good and videos like this boosted him up. It's a complete joke.
