Douglas makes excellent shave soaps and aftershaves.
I have a lot of aftershaves and fragrances from designer to niche and still Sangre de Drago is one of my favorites. I like to layer this aftershave with RazoRock Tuscan Oud, I just have to say you need to try it.
This one is really nice and long lasting. Love all PAA stuff for sure.
They have great products. The Parfums they make are amazing. Garden of Bali and Wow are beasts! Definitely a house to check out
Thank you for sharing!
garden of bali one of my favorite
have bundle
Yes...Douglas and PAA in general are VERY well known in the wet shaving community. I used "Oud Spice" as my shave soap and after shave combo just about 30 minutes ago...and look who is reviewing one of Douglas' scents! Keep up the good work Steven!
Douglas is a genius! I own 95% of his AS. Let me know if there is one you would like to try!
I'm interested in his Speakeasy one, have you used it ? If so how does it Smell and Perform ?
Will definitely check this out! Im currently using Imperial aftershave and I love it! I may need to branch out a bit
Thanks for introducing us to a variety of different products.
There's over a couple dozen small companies companies making aftershaves in unique scents, or very good knockoffs of super popular fragrances. My favorite Aventus clone is an aftershave by Fine Accoutrements. They also make a great clone of Grey Vetiver for anyone who doesn't wanna shell out Tom Ford prices.
Not to take any credit away from Mr. Smythe, of course. He's one of the more daring scent geeks in the wet shaving world.
You're talking about Fine Platinum (see my longer comment here). I love splashing that on after a shave with its great pineapple top note and then spraying on some CDNI Men a few hours later. His take on Terre 'd'Hermes, L'Orange Noir is nice as well. Have you tried Stirling's Executive Man or Razorock's Emperor which are also modeled after Aventus?
I've tried Stirling's Executive Man splash and Razorock's Friedberg soap. Friedberg is not even close. Executive Man isn't too close itself. Actually, Stirling's Iced Pineapple has a more desirable scent to my nose than Executive Man. Stirling's La Nuit clone (Sandpiper) is decent... smells like new-formulation La Nuit, which isn't so bad. Mr. Fine is still the king of cloning the big fragrance houses, but Stirling makes my favorite soap in terms of performance.
I think it would be smart for them to offer matching edt or edp formulations of them.
They do now
The 5:53 mark. "What do you expect to come in a coffin or something?" Good one, Steven. I'm going to be dead honest with you. I never really even bothered to care for any type of aftershave. I spray cologne under my chin and I count that as aftershave lol. Regardless, good review.
Hey Steven, you definitely should try other shaving products from PAA (especially shaving soaps, "CaD" is the best barbershop scent I've ever smelled!).
I see you've listened to my comments about the artisan aftershaves. You should also check out the Fine Accoutrements line, especially Fine Platinum. as well as the Stirling line of aftershaves. You might also be interested that Proraso, a very well known Italian maker of shaving products and great aftershaves, has issued a new cologne line. The first offerings are Wood and Spice, Azur Lime, and Cypress and Vetiver.
Thanks for an honest review. I'm a little disappointed in your rating of the longevity and projection. I compare all aftershave/colognes to Aqua Velva Musk and Jovan Musk in terms of longevity and projection and those are powerhouses in this field. AV Musk is about $4 and an 8 oz. bottle of Jovan Musk is $12.
If you want to delve into the area of shaving, Geo F Trumpers, Czech & Speake, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Castle Forbes, D R Harris & Truefill & Hill all have cologne lines. Most are old, established English companies. You already know about Penhaligon's.
Holy crap, my old wet shaving hobby is bleeding into my fragrance hobby! Communities are colliding and I don't know if my brain can handle it!
same here
I like old style bottles.
Steven which top middle or base notes come out after dry down
Do the aftershave colones last long?
Steven, please could you make a step back and do a review about Tom Ford's Oud fleur. Yesterday I tested almost the whole line of Ford's private blend, at the shop. For me, the richest and at the same time the most pleasent was Oud Fleur. It reminded me a smell of mulled wine. More than great scent for winter. I would like to hear your opinion about it
Cool bottle, thx for the great review, cheers bro
I love this brand. try the sandalwood, amber and alfin. great ones. tried many of his creation good ones
Thank you for sharing! I will have to try that!
Definitely do so. from time to time I sample them and seriously they are unique in their own right
I look forward to trying them!
You should make more aftershaves reviews
Thanks for recommending it!
Thanks for the review! I also just noticed that you rearranged your fragrances. LOL!!! The Creed and Le Labo bottles are missing, any particular reason why?
Hi, hope you could reply. I'm into Niche now, what are the MUST HAVE fragrance?
I have these in my basket now:
1. Creed Aventus (Summer)
2. PdM Herod (Winter)
3. PdM Pegasus (Fall)
4. Amouage Reflection (Spring)
What else?
Speaking of Penhaligons have you smelled the tragedy of lord george? I haven't seen a lot of people talk about it but I thought it was pretty awesome.
you can try Geo F Trumper sandalwood cologne also,it's from a grooming house, yet different
I've heard that's great stuff!
Shave- a-thon ys it is,very close to Indian sandalwood
4/5 rating means to put on my want list. Good news that it's inexpensive. Thanks for the review.
Astro Traveler is amazing from them
I've been wet shaving for about 4 years now with an safety razor. I have a decent size shaving den with about 6 razors, 4 brushes, 5 shaving soaps, 5 aftershaves/balms, 2 preshaves and also few other miscellaneous. Wet shaving and fragrances does definitely complement each other. I think all should switch to wet shaving with a safety razor, you'll notice and discover newly love of shaving like how I did. All my shaving products are made by artisans and are of premium quality with out all the bad stuff. Natural ingredients and PARABEN free. Initially seems expensive the wet shaving gear, but they will definitely lasts you, so its actually not expensive considering the high quality you're getting. One of the best razors I'm currently using this month in my den is TIMELESS ALUMINIUM RAZOR. I never new razors can look this cool and give such a fantastic shave.
Receiving deliveries to the UK from USA, additional to the shipping charge does add the extra duty/tax. Slightly more expensive than getting delivery within USA but was well worth it..
Thank you so much for the insightful comment!
@@Redolessence Thanks for always showing an interest on my comments.
Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements have Safety Razors too, check them out when you get a chance.
I think you should Review mens grooming aswell.
This is not for me. I don't like scented lotion and aftershave. And any true frag head would agree. Unless niche perfumes make matching lotion and aftershave like Byredo and Le Labo.
