- BRIDLINGTON | Full tour of Bridlington Old Town and High Street, away from the seafront and beach and the filming location for the Dads Army movie.
Also watch our tour of Whitby 👉🏻 • WHITBY TOUR | Full tou...
We visit Bridlington Old Town for a walk from Bridlington Priory and The Bayle Museum and then along to High Street to see the cute independent shops, antique shops, cafes, pubs and tea rooms.
High Street is like stepping back in time and it's a really well preserved street with none of your huge high street franchises and instead you get fantastic coffee shops and pubs and you can shop in the little shops there.
Bridlington Old Town was also used as a filming location for the 2016 movie Dads Army with an amazing cast including:
Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring.
Bill Nighy as Sergeant Wilson.
Catherine Zeta-Jones as Rose Winters.
Tom Courtenay as Lance-Corporal Jones.
Blake Harrison as Private Pike.
Michael Gambon as Private Godfrey.
Bill Paterson as Private Frazer.
Daniel Mays as Private Walker.
High Street in Bridlington Old Town was decorated and dressed to represent Walmington On Sea from the popular TV show turned into a new movie.
Here's what the official Bridlington Old Town Website has to say:
"Without doubt many thousands of visitors to Bridlington fail to enjoy the full experience that Bridlington has to offer due to their not being aware of Bridlington's Old Town -the town's heritage showcase and now a major movie tourism destination. The Old Town has become world famous for the transformation of its shops and many buildings to 'Walmington On Sea' for the Universal Pictures Dad's Army film which was released worldwide on 5th February 2016. The Old Town was used for several weeks and the film's release brought increased visitor numbers and footfall to its now famous High Street. Walmington On Sea Brewery, Jones The Butchers Shop, Marigolds Tea Rooms and Mercers Shoe Shop are amongst features still recognisable where the filming took place. A Dad's Army Trail in the Old Town was created.
The stunning 900 year old Priory Church dates back to 1113AD and was originally one of England’s leading monasteries. This awe-inspiring building is definitely worth a visit. Opposite the Priory is The Green and Bayle Museum which helps to bring our colourful past to life, with interactive displays.
The Old Town is packed full of independent shops and galleries with plenty of hidden treasures to be found. There are stylish art galleries next door to traditional pubs. And the shops sell everything from grandfather clocks to Granny’s favourite tea-loaf. So after a morning exploring the nearby Bridlington beaches or the wonderful Flamborough Heritage Coast, come and explore our streets.
Bridlington Old Town has also been featured in BBC2's Antiques Road Trip and offers the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a casual browse around the antique shops and galleries, sampling the wonderful food on offer at the bistros and restaurants along one of the best preserved Georgian high streets in the country.
We must not forget the range of pubs offering sustenance for the weary Old Town shopper where you can continue to soak up the Old Town atmosphere, including Walmington On Sea Brewery,"

I've lived in Brid for twelve years but it's interesting to see it through other eyes as it were. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Never new Bridlington had such a charming and historic hinterland. I must hurry back !
Definitely
As someone who was born and raised there, left like pretty much everyone I went to school with and generally doesn't think a lot of the place (living there is completely different to going on holiday or a day trip) it's interesting to see it through the eyes of someone else.
I live here, and everyone I’m friends with love our town. We know how lucky we are
What a contrast this part of Bridlington is to the seaside part loved it thanks for taking me keep on walking 🚶♂️👍❤️
My pleasure 😊
Just to say i grew up in brid so seeing other people perspective of the town is really interesting in a good way
Thank you ❤️❤️
Born and raised there, christened at the Priory and Married there too
Nice!! 👍👍👍❤️
So many lovely places to live and explore
We agree!
Lovely visit Neil to the town where I now live. Thank you. ……
Thank you so much 👍❤️
Iv always gone to Bridlington never knew this place existed beautiful place
Hello, Thank you so much for the wonderful walk through of each place you visit, I find them fascinating and very interesting!
As always.. your video's are still the best ..👍👍 keep walking..🚶
Thank you ❤️❤️
That was great. I was born just down the road from Brid, had family there and mum and dad both moved back there when they retired. I'm currently in New Zealand but we're moving back there in October. We did manage to get back over there in May for my mums funeral. You need to go to Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve as well, the cliff top walk from Bridlington to Sewerby Hall and the Amy Johnson display is fantastic as well.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love Bridlington, went earlier this year. Found the best B&B so have already booked for later in the year. Your videos are always the best so keep going.
Well you can’t keep the B&B a secret Sandra! Which one is it! 🤣
Marton Grange on the Flamborough Road.
A very nice place and I love to explore all what it has to give.
👍👍👍
An excellent presentation and so nice with just the light music and streaming text. Cheers
Thank you 🙏
Spent a week’s holiday in Bridlington this year. Sad to say we didn’t get around to seeing the Old Town 🙁So thanks for the virtual visit 👍🙂
OMG, I've lived in Bridlington for 3 years & although heard it mentioned many times, not actually been. This video was perfectly put together, definitely going to visit this summer now thanks to watching this 🥰
Thank you so much
My children were born in the Avenue Hospital (now converted to sheltered housing). Was just waiting for you to 'pan round' to view it again. Thank you!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I used to live right next to the Priory (19 years ago) and was able to see where I lived at the beginning of the video! Its interesting to me that the area of old town hasn't really changed at all since then, it looks just like as I remembered!
At the start I honestly thought that was Skeletor sat outside the church 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Such a great walk. Yes the streets are worth a walk down to check out the pubs and shops. Keep on walking 😀
Thank you, I will!
I must admit to the same. Been going to bridlington for years and never visited the old town. I must go the next time I'm there
Definitely!
Nice to c u showing the old town for a change always have a walk around there when I visit the inlaws just more peaceful and the priory is great to look around as well

Amazing! Have fun!
Im glad you said the models crept you out i felt the same way . Bridlington is a lovely old town .the sun makes everything look better.
Oh yes! Always does!
A lovely video, and how lovely to see all those little shops, it’s so refreshing not to see the usual shops we see in most towns, it was a pleasant surprise to see the other side of Bridlington. I only ever watch your videos on the big tv. The film quality is superb. Thank you.
You're welcome - have a wonderful weekend
I love the seaside at Brid, these are many areas I've never seen before. Interesting mom and pop shops and winding streets! Hey Neil, how about Wentworth? Perhaps from the village to the Woodhouse. That house always fascinates me! ;)
I'm not familiar with wentworth - is it from where the M1 at Tankersley down towards Barnsley?
Sadly and holidaying in Brid since the 1960s and apart from a drive by late at night I have not visited the old town, and it is so pretty and not too busy which I like, a must visit next time im in the area.
Lovely video! You picked a very nice day for it too. Subscribed :)
Thanks so much!
Love Bridglinton
Love your viedos X
Thank you Doris!
Have a lovely weekend ❤️❤️
My daughter and grand kids live there I love it when I come over to see them xxxx
I can’t wait to go back
I would like to get to know others over there 😀
If you took away the cars and street furniture, you could be in the latter part of the 19th century. Looks like a great place to explore. ❤️👍👍
i used to live on southback lane last year before i moved out of brid and i was there 4 about 4 years now im living in my hometown again
Love Bridlington old town, the yealy 1940's festival is amazing
I missed it this year - will have to definitely do it next year!
A great & fantastic video of BRIDLINGTON | Full tour of Bridlington Old Town and High Street i have to Bridlington for a day with my Brothers!.👌👌👌👌
Hope you had a great time?
True, the old town is blissfully unchanged, however, the seafront has deteriorated from a charming peaceful area of lawns, flowerbeds and wooden benches circa 1950's, into an ugly noisy dirty smelly fare ground. Such a shame!
I don’t mind it at all!
Would love to live there.
Would be a good idea to pan in on street names as a guide to outsiders like myself
Was last in Bridlington 2012 at spa for northernsoul weekend. It was a great wee town. Plenty to do for sure
Definitely
Been to Bridlington loads of times but never done old town ,going to give it a whirl when i go next .
I've got the ultimate tour of the seafront there coming up on Monday
Had too brief a visit there a couple of years back, must get back there.
love Bridlington. Never been to the old town though
Was my first time to be honest
Was my first time to be honest
In all my years of visiting Bridlington when my In Laws were alive & lived in Filey I have never been here
I’m going to have to put that right now
😃👍🏻
Was my first time too.
Definitely worth an hour wandering around
At 19.50 if you had continued on a bit you would have come to the old stocks (you could see them in the background) which were still used up to the 20th century.
At 23.50 you showed the old maternity hospital (now apartments) where I was born in 1941 next to the Star Inn which is the oldest pub in town and well worth a visit.
Ah I'm going to have to go back and explore Bridlington a bit more I think!
Put my dad‘s ashes in the harbour today very proud love that place
Sorry to hear about your dad Steve.
What a lovely place for him to be though eh?
Will you or can you provide a walkabout through Hornsea, please? Thanks for you chrystal pictures. Spot on!

You should've gone in the Bayle "museum", there's furniture in there by the Mouse man!
Ah amazing! Next time I definitely will
There are a few mouseman mice in the priory aswell
go there a lot my relatives live in oldtown
Lovely! Nice little streets there
Old town looks nice but last time I was by the seafront/ harbour area I thought it was a bit “rough”.
Fab brid sewerby Flamborough my favourite places
I need to do the other two places don’t I!
Yes and Bempton for the birds
You need to go back and do a video of The Board Inn, it's stunning inside and is a more remarkable period piece than the Old Town High Street.
Ooh thank you - I will do. Looks interesting from outside so good to hear it's worth a nosey!
@@GimbalWalkTV If you like real ale, take a book with you to sit down and enjoy the place for an hour or two, you'll only regret not having found it sooner.
More seaside towns
👍👍👍
Can you film meltham West Yorkshire
9:06 where is this street please? Thanks
Here you go - goo.gl/maps/28NmmuJ2SXqG4Vc29
We are not East Yorkshire🤮 or East anything. Our County is Humberside, 💘 just as Teesside is Teesside
Ah ok apologies I didn’t know
Google and all the websites I use for info say East Riding of Yorkshire!?
I live here and its not surprising that there is so many wonderful comments from people who dont live here, because the people who do live here hate it, me included.
You can move away?
Get out whilst you can
😮😮😮
Its such a terrible place to live.
@@watts320 I know
It looks great on a sunny day, Bridlington could be a great place sadly there are too many low life’s spoiling it for decent people
Oh no sorry to hear that - is it bad?
@@GimbalWalkTV yes but I’m sure there is worse
