Adam is super helpful if you buy from Alan's BMX. Really helped me out with a technical brake issue. Thanks again Adam and great video ;0)
I was taught to line up the recommended tire inflation information with the valve. That way, you could find the info without much effort.
Great video. Skyway could have easily created a slight groove in the inside of the rim to lock in the tire bead, not sure why they never did.
Thanks for the brief explanation, that was awesome !
Many thanks for the video. I never knew about the 40 PSI on Tuff Wheels or the detergent trick. Very informative.
Great presentation, very informative. Thank you!
Just bought my first set of mags and very happy I watched this video
Thank you for sharing
Excellent video presentation!, very informative👍- top marks!
Great video, thanks for sharing your expertise!
@Alan’s BMX Nice tip about the pressure for Skyway’s. Cheers.🤙
Great presentation! Very profesional
Genius Shrek, well done mate!
Nice one fella ✌️
You guys have a great web site.
Thanks for the video! Came here looking for tips and tricks for skyways. Funny thing is I just ordered a set of the twisted 6 spokes from you guys, couldn't find them anywhere here in the states.
Thankyou bro
Have you tried using rim strips on Skyway wheels to help center the tire? Thinking of trying this. The rim strips should help fill in the small gap between tire and rim to set it even before inflating.
🤣 that’s the old way of fitting tyres
try tube in tyre first then put it on your skyways also low pressure in tyres ride it a bit bunny hop it about a bit blow it up hard job done 💪🏻
Cheers mate - proper video...very helpful and useful! Will be mounting a DK Legend with pair of Skyway Tuff wheels with some Maxxis Grifters and a Halo Clickster freewheel.
thank you Alan - brilliant video ..spray is a great idea ..SKYWAY still look great thank you for suporting old skool - i use both steel RIMS and Skyway
Awesome video!!!! Wish you guys also made a video about caliper freestyle brakes and skyway tuff wheels tips :) My front skyway wheels dont brake, as my kool stop and skyway brake pads just slides around - like it dont grip
Hi Ken, thanks for your comment. Brake pads on Skyways are tricky, you usually want to match the colour of your pad to the coulour of the wheel in order to avoid unsightly marks on the brake surface. However this does lead to some quite hard and therefor not very high friction contact. A good compromise is to run clear brake pads, the transparent rubber doesn't leave marks and also the compound is much softer which means more friction and a sharper brake.
I used to hate putting new tyres on tuffs back in the day they would allways bubble off the rims lol i found putting a bit of air in and rollin them about with a lil bit of air centered the tyres and not go over 50psi or the tyre popped off i havent used tuffs in years tho (since the late 90s)
I want these wheels but I'm skeptical now after watching this video cause of the low psi ordeal. I like my tires more on the harder side but I do t want them to pop off while I'm riding. If I run wider tubes/tires(2.3, 2.4), will that help with my tire staying on? Serious inquiry lol
im running 50psi in a 2.25 haro kenda tire with tuff 2s. no issues yet.
would defo like to see this vid with the new motomags that your selling i just bought some so yeah haha dont wanna scratch em
The directional 6 spoke skyways for a 20 in 2023 gt performer what size tooth can you use
I have some “like new” zmags. I assume they’re like tuff2. It seems like tires all made for HB-422 rims..how difficult is it to install some kenda kontact tires on my zmags.
I did everything you said not too, except putting the free-wheel on backwards,
Do they sell a tool for the original skyways freewheel from the late 70 early 80s, with the key on the out side not the inside?
👍
Hi! Just ordere a pair of them... Can you please suggest me a belt-freewheel wich can be mounted on it? I build a folding 20' ....
If it’s on backwards then wouldn’t it lock up while spinning backwards? Seems like that would make sense
My back Skyway rim on my Gt pro performer has been bent for 35 years and I have yet to find a way to fix it. They say to freeze it but it didn’t work for me.
I have 2 sets and both are not fits well, i use 20x1.75 tyre (tioga & panaracer) can u tell me what type/ size inside tube should i use? Exactly 20x175 or 20x1.75 - 2.15? Or any recomendation?
Either of those will work, it's better to use a wider than a narrower tube if you can't get it bang on as the tube wall won't stretch too thin this way.
I also never knew about the air pressure on a skyway 😳
I just bought the same wheels with the same free wheel but I need to change to a cassette to fit a 9t. Is that possible to do in this wheel or do I need to order a wheel with the correct set already installed
Unfortunately it's not possible to convert these wheels to 9t. Skyway do make a 9 tooth version of the wheels and they are currently available on alansbmx.com
I have gone over 40psl several times to get it seat right, lots of skyway don't allow the tyre to seat even with soapy water, had to go 100psi on one set, if freewheel has been put on wrong you can use a vice to squeeze the freewheel so it stop rotating and then trun the wheel while still in vice,
100 psi💀
What size tyer is that?
Unior make a tool for removing single 16 tooth plus freewheels and there is a freewheel that of 14 teeth that will fit on that thread but will only correspond with3/8 10mm axles .
BMX-ellent stuff. Just out of interest, what do a pair of Skyways retail at the days? 👍
Around £140 starting
are tough wheels heavy ? any idea what they weigh without the tires ?
Around 3.5kg, they are heavier than a spoked wheel
What PSi would you say for a 24'' Skyway ?
Same as regular, don't go above 40psi.
Onde comprar, passa o linkde vendas
To anyone who knows I'd love to know.
Can you use a 2.4" tire with these mags ?
Also should you use a rim strip ?
@@UserUser-zc6fx thank you. Very much appreciate the info . I'm hoping to complete my build by the summer! Thanks again
Shit I'm over here sitting at work knowing that there's 70psi of air in my tires 🤦
@@UserUser-zc6fx thanks for the info I have 2.2s on them now dropped the psi to 40. Having trouble getting rid of tire bounce. Tried soapy water trick..still no luck, will probably end up dropping to 1.75s if I can't solve the issue
why would you need to use a rim strip? They are to keep your spoke nipples from rubbing on your tubes.
Are clear brake pads good for chrome rims? I noticed tge stock green pads are scuffing the chrome rims..
graphite tuffs can be a real bitch tp get the tire to seat without it bubbling off the rim of the wheel, if y'all have this problem , a light sanding inside the rims edge will keep em on , or if you dont want to scuff em use hairspray
Maybe you can answer why modern Skyway Tuff Wheels do not display The Red and white Void Your Warranty Sticker on the inside of the rim ? You know The Brake Block statement ! additional I will not mention Fridge Freezers myth.
Skyways in red on white walls
You lost me at 'Togay'
😳
Anyone looking to mount these to 2.4" tires, it seems possible - check this video out: ua-cam.com/video/I4bECAh7y0Q/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ApexBMX
Tube and tyre togheter and it's easier. Didn't know why you seperated. It is easy as, sane rollin on the street for a quick change. Hands are all you need. Unless you've had to many soy boy lattes.
Why are motomags not made anymore??? A guy in his garage 40yrs ago made them, and we can't get a company or another guy in his garage making them again. Wtf is going on??? Something isn't right here!!!!
Theyre available now,
Reproduced with magic.
🤙🤙👌👌😉😉
Next week: How to ride a bike.
WAYYYYYYYYY too much grease, a dab will do ya.
How do you know when it's correct, if you're a perfectionist you're doing this all day trying to make it completely perfect? 🤦
It’s ironic how nobody wanted those cheap plastic wheels back in the 90’s because they bent so easily. No people are paying top dollar for them
got my first pair in the 70's and first z-rims in the 80's , as long as they were bent and not cracked , you could straighten both in a freezer, reg ones or graphites (not cheap)
