Hey David - they were made of plexiglass. Compared to the modern technology we have today to create these bubbles, back in the day - the 1960's they had to make due - Darryl Starbird told me and showed me some of the grass roots techniques they used - and he was the king of bubble tops.
I assume you are asking about the bubble top. All bubble tops are made from sheets of plexiglass which is heated and air blown into shape. All of the bubble tops we've made for the Space Coupe have been irreparably damaged over the 21 years since we found this car in terrible condition, so we will be blowing a new one, which will then cut into 3 sections - the windscreen, which actually continues up and over the drivers head, and the two window sections. The frame for all of that is already installed as you will see in the most recent films on #projectspacecoupe
That is awesome it surprised me how pliable it really got
What was the thickness of the plexiglass?
Thank you ! I always wondered “How did they do that”???
This is really cool.
That's the way they make some skylights That's for sure.
How did they originally make the bubbled glass of some of the old classic cars? Were they never made of glass? Was it always a form of plexiglass?
