So sad to hear, I'm a huge SOA fan as well. I have such a hard connection with this song. My birthday is March 12.. I will play this song on my birthday, as a reminder of him.
He’s a fictional character I know that. But Opie’s death and funeral still hit my soul like he was a real person. This is one of the best chosen songs to back a funeral scene ever. If I ever find a friend like Opie, I’d hope he would make this my funeral song.
The music in sons of anarchy.. EVERY episode I've seen ALWAYS has a fitting and/or amazing songs at the end... Look for songs of anarchy you'll find loads
My twin brother was a big SOA fan, he made the desicion of ending his own life in May 2019. When we visit his memorial place, we play this exact song, because he loved it!
Tim Arrigo Please say *spoiler* before posting major deaths on music videos that aren't remotely related to the TV show you're referring to (This particular video has no correlation to SoN apart from it being in an episode, there's no direct link anywhere here) I have seen all of the episodes but for those who haven't, please zip your pie hole up
Grim Grin Major deaths? Its make believe u tool..and I'm sure everyone has seen the show if they're here. And how long has it been since it aired? You probably think you're a SON..grow up tough guy.
I listen to this so much for years. Never had a mum or dad, lived on the streets for years then I found my calling my home and I'm now a nurse with 3 children. But this song breaks my heart every time because I know exactly how painful this song hits.
I still need to cry every time i listen to this song and i still watch soa its just one of those series that never gets boring no matter how often you watch it 👌
S.O.A created a powerful and moving scene with this song and the fact the song was written about the millions of lost children in Africa and elsewhere makes an even more powerful statement.
23 years ago my Dad walked away. I remained back with Mom. I have waited and waited and waited for him to show up one day but it hasn't happened, yet. At that point when he left I had not the slightest clue of the hardships that lay before my Mother and me. I wish I could back and relive the times, back to the 80's along with my parents. But since that's an impossible thing to do I come here instead, listen to this beautiful song and go through albums of the days with them.
I’m with ya bro my dad left me my brother and my Ma when I was 7 I’m 49 now recovered drug addict and alcoholic Gangs institutions and almost dead my dad died 3. Years ago and I still see him walk out that door god bless you brother hold strong don’t give up you are definitely not alone ML&R
My dad Micheal Shodin was a biker member I lost him 4 years ago sons of anarchy reminded me of him so much and I played this for him when I left him go rest on peace dad
I left my home still as a child I walked a thousand sorry miles To wait for my father, to gather up his tools He said my boy you've got to run Don't wait for me, don't wait for mum We'll come get you, when it's safe for us to move So I waited many years Held back the pain behind my tears For my father, to come find me like he said And in that time I was alone So many years without my home I made brothers of a different kind instead And in the time I didn't know Just how hard the wind could blow Towards disaster, and the things that I would see I never found my father I never found my mother Even would I know in my lifetime I will be A hero into the masses To those born without chances There's a freedom that everyone deserves I know there's greed and there's corruption I've seen death and mass destruction But I'm telling you, and I hope that I'm heard And I will not be commanded And I will not be controlled And I will not let my future go on Without the help of my soul And I will not be commanded And I will not be controlled And I will not let my future go on Without the help of my soul And I will not be commanded And I will not be controlled And I will not let my future go on Without the help of my soul I will not be commanded I will not be controlled And I will not let my future go on Without the help of my soul
WOW!! I just discovered this song and am blown away. We are so beat up these days and declaring that "I will not be comanded; I will not be controlled..." is just the phrasing I want to scream at those who are trying their best to do so. It really plays on a loop in my head and probably will for a while. Thanks, Greg, for one more way to sing for individual freedom when "big brother" gets too close.
This song honors an actual Sudanese refugee. He became a refugee as a young boy during the late 1980's. Yet the world continues to generate thousands upon thousand of refugees annually. That is reality. Not a fictional TV show. Seems humanity will never learn.
Every time I listen to an SoA song i just feel things that I didn't know I could feel. The whole show was such a tragic story with a tragic end. Opie and tara's death will always make me cry. Such an amazing show with such amazing music. SAMCRO forever
Lost my little brother to suicide around 6 years ago. the lyrics in this song basically describe him, and the write up in the local news even described him as a 'lost boy'. my parents were catatonic so i had to arrange his funeral, picking this song. today is the first time I have been able to listen to it since that day. Fly Free Brother
As much as i love Opie & SOA,this song is for us who have lost someone tragically or orphaned and now that i have a son i pray to live long enough for him to remember me after im gone
This song hits a chord in my heart when i hear it. For those who are no longer with me physically, but whom will never leave me in spirit, in my heart or in my soul. Much love to everyone out there.
My dad asked for this song when he passed away and he recently passed away along with my older brother and it was soothing when all of us heard this song at their funeral so I’m happy that we got to listen to this song there

I left my home still as a child
I walked a thousand sorry miles
To wait for my father, to gather up his tools
He said my boy you've got to run
Don't wait for me, don't wait for mum
We'll come get you, when it's safe for us to move
So I waited many years
Held back the pain behind my tears
For my father, to come find me like he said
And in that time I was alone
So many years without my home
I made brothers of a different kind instead
And in the time I didn't know
Just how hard the wind could blow
Towards disaster, and the things that I would see
I never found my father
I never found my mother
Even would I know in my lifetime I will be
A hero into the masses
To those born without chances
There's a freedom that everyone deserves
I know there's greed and there's corruption
I've seen death and mass destruction
But I'm telling you, and I hope that I'm heard
And I will not be commanded
And I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on
Without the help of my soul
And I will not be commanded
And I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on
Without the help of my soul
And I will not be commanded
And I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on
Without the help of my soul
I will not be commanded
I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on
Without the help of my soul
The first time l heard this song l cried the lyrics are very moving 🤗
I don’t think it is ‘tools’ but rather ‘truths’
