There's a reason why I refused to talk about the Sonic movie on my channel.. because I know 100% without a doubt it's gonna be a giant pile of garbage. This isn't even a Sega/Sonic Team thing as much as it is a Hollywood thing, so it was already doomed from the get-go lol
I understand how you feel. There's a bunch of people that say Modern sucks without even looking into it. But here, that's not the point their trying to make. As you've heard in the video, Sonic has a personality which is COMPLETELY different from the games (i.e the fact that sonic needs to look for a friend even though he likes to go solo.). Also, I liked forces also, but the reason people hated it a lot is because of the shitty controls, bad story, and the bad level design. I'll start with 1. The controls were bonkers, they removed the drift which was really important in some of the levels (and they gave the avatar an auto drift, weird.). Classic sonic felt like he weighed two tons, and whenever he jumped, you couldn't even position it as he would immediately turn left or right. 2, bad story. Basically, sonic was tortured for 6 months and acted like nothing happened to him. Then Infinite was some edgy dude that got mad from shadow calling him weak. Blah blah blah friendship. and finally, level design. Just... linear. Only complaint people had.

Honestly, it would be better if SEGA made the story based off of Unleashed. It had a good story, good characters, foreshadowing, good ending, good theme, basiclly everything needed for a good movie. It could also be made in CGI or Live Action. Anyways, we could also benefit from a Sonic Unleashed remastered since it would be based on the movie. The Werehog wouldn't even be hated since we won't even have to play as him, and the game has it's own realistic environments anyways. So why not Unleashed? Cause if they stick to the retarded idea of Sonic being friends with a police officer, then it's pretty obvious they are trying to do a cash grab. If they do Unleashed then they won't lose the trust of us Sonic fans like how they did when they tried to blend Sonic in with the "real world" in 06.

I'm playing Unleashed right now. Honestly, the only thing bad about the game is the medal system and the fps sometimes drops. Apart from that, it's a great game with a detailed story. It would made for an interesting and cool movie.
1. How often is a movie about a video game good?
2. Sonic NEEDS to be fast, and doing CGI fast is not an easy thing to do.
3. Outside of videogames, I think Sonic only works in short bursts (Mania Adventures, comic books, etc.) or if its not going to take itself overly serious (sonic movie 1999).
4. While something decent that breaks these is good once a blue moon (Sonic X...it's not bad guys honest), I'm not going to get my hopes up that a company that has never interacted with Sonic in the past making him something he's never been before is going to make it happen.
Point is, not a lot going for this movie. I personally don't mind the idea of him becoming friends with a cop. Any idea can be told well if you make the right choices, but this can be harder for some than others. This is one of those really hard stories to tell right, and I don't think Sony's gonna pull it off.

Uh, this is NOT enough info for me to say if its good or bad at all. Sorry, but no. Honestly, I’d say this is probably gonna be like a live action Sonic X in a sense. Everyone seems to think this entails it to be a buddy cop film, I don’t see it. I feel its gonna be more like the live action TMNT movies or Transformers in a sense, but that’s my sense in all of this. All in all, people are taking this a bit too literal. Its not enough info to actually have a clear-cut idea on what’ll happen.

Hilarious and Original Channel Name PRECISELY why I say give the movie more time. It hasn’t even been released, yet people are already saying its bad. Look at Transformers, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So many people say those movies are bad, but I cannot think of one time they did not sell well at the box office. Can you? The only reason why there is less hope for the Sonic movie is because of two reasons: people cannot get out of the mindset that Sonic can only be portrayed one way. That’s is not the right way of thinking. A character can be fleshed out to have different personalities for multiple reasons, giving said character a diverse appearance to many. And second - ITS A MOVIE BASED ON A VIDEO GAME. None has succeeded in the genre.....well, Assassin’s Creed was good, but you get the point. Since SEGA is confident enough to have actually said there is going to be multiple movie titles., I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt. Sonic has always done well on tv, so hopefully the same can be said about the movies.

After hearing what you had to say, I do NOT have any hope of this movie doing good. SEGA REALLY should've supervised the making of this movie and given Sony the Sonic lore, universe, and yes, this should've been in CGI. SEGA should've made this movie from the get-go.

I tried to stay optimistic when I first hear about this movie, but I think that if the right studio got there hands on it, that it could have been some thing decent at the very least. But then I hear about it being live action/CGI and I got worried. Still, I figured that again, perhaps it could be good if they got the right actors for the film. But then Sonic Forces came out, and I read some leaks about what the Sonic Movie was and/or could be. Then I lost hope, and not with what you stated, this movie is going to bomb and bomb hard... Why can't we just get a Sonic Movie about Sonic, his friends, and his world! We don't need a live action version of Sonic X! And come on now, look at Sonic Mania Adventures, that EXACTLY what a Sonic movie should be, only with some great voice acting and a good script. But no, it seems like we are going to be getting a very Alvin and the Chipmunks style of shit that everyone hates... God, they needed to wait on a Sonic Movie. It shouldn't be coming out now with how bad Sonic Boom was, and how meh Sonic Forces was... That and they would have been safer just to make a Classic Sonic movie seeing how he is the only Sonic Sega seems to give a shit about anymore. To be honest I never really had any hope for this movie. Video game movies never had a good reputation and this news here proves that point.

Based on what read from interviews from people like SEGA, I can see what are the intentions of this movie.
- First, they said they want to make Sonic even more popular, basically what you said, a media entertainment.
- SEGA of America decided to make a live-action movie as part of that movie, take in mind, they were also in charge on the idea of Sonic Boom, not to antagonize them but it seems that they want their slide of cake of the Sonic franchise and this is another attempt, and while I like the Sonic Boom cartoon, the last thing the series needed was a sub-series regardless if Rise of Lyric was actually good.
- Another thing is that this movie seems to have been through development hell when it was being made under Sony, this movie was announced around 2013-2014 I believe, but it continued to be constantly delayed every year, it was even rewritten to be more action-focused rather than a comedy, it was not until it moved to Paramount (while keeping the same staff) that the movie finally started to have some progress.
- And, as awful as this movie sound, it actually has some self-aware and talented people behind it, like how they are aware that video games don't translate well to films and the director, Tim Miller, is the same one from the movie Deadpool, a great and fun movie that also has a lot of 4th-wall jokes making fun of other questionable movie tropes. And also the animation is in charge
of Marza Studios that we know from the CGI cutscenes in the Sonic games and Takashi Iizuka who has supervised the movie's production to say what is allowed and what is not, of course Iizuka's position doesn't allow him for much involvement in the movies, but just like he and others members of Sonic Team step it and corrected the awful redesigns for Sonic Boom that made Sonic look like a Crash Bandicoot rip-off, hopefully, he has some mandates that can save this movie from being extremely non-Sonic
Sadly, this is both a live-action hybrid film and a video game film, and both are cursed to suck no matter how strong the source material is, I pretty much expect this movie to be terrible and I don't have any hope for it to have any special, but considering the people behind it maybe they can make this movie not so terrible or at least watchable compared to others of its kind. The more news and updates the 2019 Sonic Movie gets, the more pessimistic I've become towards it, and at this point I've effectively lost any and all hope with this project.
At least with (most of) the other recent products the Sonic franchise has produced in recent times that I've either become completely apathetic towards like with Colours Wii and Forces, or even ended up outright despising with a passion like Lost World 3DS, I've had some sense of optimism and hope that they would've turned out to at least decent experiences, but knowing what's happened to the franchise, especially ever since 2014 with the Sonic Boom sub-series, I simply can't bring myself to stay optimistic about this franchise anymore, unless something truly dramatic, great and ambitious happens to it, but again considering the current environment it's been in for a while now, the probability of that hypothetical circumstance happening is incredibly slim.
Perhaps I'm acting overly-dramatic and/or maybe even spoiled to most reading this, but it's just the way I genuinely feel about this situation right now. If this franchise doesn't improve when it inevitably hits its 30th Anniversary, then I'm honestly considering jumping ship. I'd much rather have something that's terrible instead of being unbearably boring and average, because at least with something being terrible masses of people will end up critiquing it to hell and back and the original creators will end up hearing their complains and critiques, thus (hopefully) making a better product next time, but with something being frustratingly plain then hardly anything would improve next time, since most would just grudgingly accept it without too many complaints and the original creators would be none-the-wiser to their mistakes, thus stagnating their property even more.

The Ratchet & Clank movie may be mediocre, at least It's set in the game's universe.The characters, atmosphere, worlds, still feel like what you see in the actual games. THIS will be nothing more than a passonless hollywood Alvin/Smurf level cash-grab. It's going to flop, *HARD.*
The best style for a Sonic movie would be SatAm. Almost every videogame character put to screen has been happy-go-lucky with minalistic problems except for some silly ones. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog for all intensive purposes was Looney Tunes with Sonic characters. SatAm broke this trend and was a masterpiece for it. The villain had won and the goal was to take back the world. Relationships and scenarios were remarkably realistic, and Robotnik was incredibly focused and intelligent. Progress was slow and complex plots could be built around this. And the color scheme was just a few notches below Disney 2D animation.
Bottom line: If you want to make it successful, make it dark. Robotnik has been an absolute joke recently, even when he took over the world make the consequences severe. Make Robotnik a powerful robber Barron industrialist and most importantly, show the consequences of his power and influence. 20th century infrastructure is quite terrifying if done right.
marcel buchaca It does not matter that SatAm Robotnik is slower. He is much better at war tactics. Someone tries to trap him in a pit, he flies out with his boots. He is also a much better industrialist. In terms of physical power, Japanese Eggman is superior. But the real strength is mind, which SatAm Robotnik wins in almos every scenario, as well as military might. He can outproduce Japanese Eggman many times over, and with superior equipment.
The thing I hate is that people think sonic game, shows and movies are gonna be auto trash

I think the best depiction of Sonic's world was unleashed. I would've loved something along those lines. But I also agree with you. This community can't visualise things properly. They all probably think it will be like some cartoon cop with exagerated animations.
I mean movies about video games aren't good. But even if this is bad, it could be the best video game movie still. Even though it'll be terrible.

This doesn't sound bad to me at all. It's a new interpretation of Sonic and if you're going to do a re-interpretation you have to start from the beginning. An origin story if you will. I think from what we know so far they could to do it pretty well.
First of all if your going to do Sonic best, he needs a straight man to play off of, normally that's Knuckles or sometimes Shadow or Tails. In this case they're focusing on Sonic's origins so a human cop straight man is the best way to go I think. He can be a straight man without boxing in the plot like using Knuckles or Shadow would as they both have intricate backstories which would take the focus away from Sonic.
So then because Sonic's friends would take focus away from Sonic it's best to start with some more disposable characters. Sonic's gonna be a little lonely in the beginning because character development and depth are a thing and this seems if it's written well it could actually be pretty good.

The movie is still considered a 6-7/10. But hey, we got a great sequel that brought back the Knuckles we loved.
Oh yeah, there was also this god awful design that was so hated by fans and non-fans, that it caused the movie to be delayed. And the design was replaced by a fan redesign.

Its okay to have an opinion, but if one person says a game/film/TV show (whatever it maybe) sucks, don't state the same opinion as theirs. Have your say. Never start a war by using the same opinion as theirs. That is called bandwagoning and that is sometimes not a good thing as that can lead to worser problems in a community. Never join a bandwagon. Always listen to yourselves. Respect opinions, love one another, be YOU. As divided as this community is, just because one person thinks this idea is gonna be bad, doesn't mean you have to say its bad. Listen to yourselves fanbase.... LISTEN. Its not hard. Being negative all the time over a game or a film or whatever, will not make things better. This has been going on for ages now. No wonder SEGA/Sonic Team are struggling at the moment since the vocal majority of this fandom are just picking out the negatives from anything one person says about what the company could give us instead of looking for positives as well. Sorry if this sounds a bit out of subject, but a friend of mine once told me this about the Sonic community a few years ago saying, "Its not the franchise itself that's doing bad, its how the fanbase treats it. As I can tell, the company tries so hard to impress their community, that it has never been pleasing anyone. Ever since Sonic 06 came out got very poor reviews which I know why and that's fair enough, but a lot of fans have been showing distrust in Sonic Team & SEGA that the majority of the community will just give any reason to judge on any of their products badly no matter how insignificantly minor it is." I thought I may bring this out to the community to see if this raises any eyebrows and see if anyone seems to agree with this comment my mate made. (though, there are a majority of positive people in this community which is very nice to see, but its mostly its negatives in this community that outweighs its positives. There are a lot of good people in it, but there are a lot of people who ruin the positives and I actually find that quite saddening to see tbh. Okay I've been going on for far too long now, but thanks if anyone has read this extremely long comment. You're a real trooper :)

I forgot this movie even exists. And by the sound of it, I think I can safely just go back to forgetting it exists.
I think people need to get into the idea that 2D Sonic and 3D Sonic are two very different, and very separate, series. You really can't judge 3D and 2D Sonic in the same way anymore.
Everytime I remember that the movie is going to be live action I think of Space Jam.

This is more a lookback on how thing were, where we. . . knew very little about the Sonic Movie (Jesus, what a time that was). At time of writing this comment, the movie comes out in *2 DAYS*, and holy fuck. . .A LOT of things has happened since then. From the initial teaser poster, leaks, the first trailer, the announcement of a redesign for Sonic immediately after, more leaks, and then to the second movie trailer with the new design of Sonic; it's been one fucking hell of a journey.
It seems that going by early impressions, the movie is actually WAY better than expected, especially the expectations in this video. Which is pretty shocking if you ask me. Back then I had similar amount of doubts towards this movie being any good expressed in this video, but had a sliver of hope that it might be better then it's letting on at the time going by little information we knew. But now it seems like it going to surpass my (once) negative to lukewarm expectations, which makes me very happy. This movie should not work. . .like. . . at all, but all be damned it seems to be proving us wrong.
I was going to see this movie anyway out of sheer curiosity, but now in this post-redesign period, I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing this movie tomorrow night! Hopefully people will really enjoy it!

The main story behind the video games and early animated series is that Sonic was a leader of a group of freedom fighters who was in opposition to dr robotnik's regime. He can be very hot headed and arrogant like most speedsters including the Flash and certain variations of Quicksilver can be. But Sonic was never a 16 year old punk who needed authority to look up to. This is far from his original character. I am afraid we are going to experience another Super Mario Bros 1993 film flip.
