Soooo … 12 years ago, our Wonderful Wayne was already telling us how to save $$$ by using lipstick 💄 instead of cream blush. Thanks so much, Wayne!! You are the absolute BEST!! ❤️
i love how you don't try and push new products on to your subs, you don't get sucked in by pretty packaging or advertising, you just do and promote what works, no matter the price point, simply what works.
I am a woman of color and have just gotten into makeup. I found it so hard to find a blush that worked well with my skin tone. I thank you so much for this advice because I now have a wide variety of colors to choose from in lipsticks.
my grandmother used to use her lipstick as blush also. this brought back memories for me of watching her put on moisturizer, lipstick and "blush" everyday just before my grandfather arrived home from work. Now I'm a granny and I have used my lipstick the same way for years. In fact, I taught this to my daughter and grand-daughter (and will to the younger grandgirls at the right time) when they started wearing makeup. Thanks for the memory, Wayne!!!
I usually paint my lips, kiss my fingers and put the excess on my cheeks. I like how the cheek matches the lip when I do that, and I don't end up using too much. Don't wear makeup all that often though, and sort of wonder if the lipstick might cause breakouts easier than a blush..?
you are quite right it is an old fashioned way of putting on blush. I have been doing this for years since I was in my teens. there are a million colors to choose from for any occasion, AND you will always match with your lips. thans for bringing an "old fashioned" viewpoint back into fashion.
Please show us more of the HOW, you're very thorough on the WHY. It would be great to show us different cream blushes being applied to different ages, skin tones, etc. with tips on choosing colors.
Jo Swearingen i apply it on my fingers first then onto my cheeks then blend. :) sometimes when I'm very lazy, I apply streaks on my cheeks then blend. If you need more, apply another layer. Hope this helps. This is how it works for me :)
He just talks talks talks but doesn't show how or what he does at all... He is such a poser but I haven't seen the end-results that he's able to come up with. Being an influencer makeup artist like that is easy everyone can be but when it comes to show what he can do he's not that exciting!
Common sense is your friend. Either straight out of the tube, on your fingers or using a damp beauty sponge. I know he mentioned the sponge in the video. 🤷🏻♀️
I love that you actually put emotion into what your talking about. A person can tell you actually love what you do, unlike other gurus who just stare at a camera and just blankly talk about a product. It also helps that your an actual MAKEUP ARTIST who KNOWS what they're talking about. Love you, thanks for everything you do!
I've seen Mom and y aunts do his so many times I wonder how my addiction to cosmetics made me forget all this good sense, thank you Wayne for bringing it back. You're gorgeous as always
Real techniques showed how to use their sponge with cream blush. I was trying it out and used lipstick since o didn't have any cream blush. It looks so good. It adds a dewy looks that powder doesn't, and I don't have to use a lot to get it to show up. And it looks so much more natural, especially when I use the same color that I am using on my lips. (FYI-I am African American) I also do the same thing with cream contour, I have finally discovered how to avoid the dirty streak look.
Thank you Wayne for mentioning Women of Color.💄💄 There is a huge opponent on the internet expressing his personal disgust of seeing Women of Color wearing red lipstick. I also feel that Reds and Golds look lovely!!💃
i love how excited you get by making our lives easier lol, you are telling us about a product that everyone already owns that can really change up your routine, that's what makes you stand out. You are not doing some sales pitch or recommending products that just are not realistic for most women (or men) you really understand what real people want out of makeup. You are amazing!!!
Oldie but perfect one...reminds me of my nanna drumming into me that matching cheeks and lips are a MUST when I was a little girl LOL She was a very glamorous Nanna who would not go out of the door without having sat at her vanity table making herself pretty. Good old days!
if i had really ANY kind of make up related question i'd always look if there is a video you uploaded that has a connection to my question - i trust your opinion 100% and i never have to watch like 15mins unnecessarily long videos to get that information! big thank you to you, you are 100% the best!
This was SO helpful! I'm darker skinned and it is SO hard finding good blushes. I've forked out cash on a bunch of mac ones, and NARS and it gets so expensive. Just tried this and it looks AMAZING! Best part is I have a lipstick buying addiction (LOVE bright shades) and I always feel guilty buying so many, but now I can put them to use. You're the BEST! xx
Thank you so much for this! You have truly made my life so much easier. I am blind, and I have struggled with using powder blush because I can’t feel it very well. Using a lipstick for blush means I have complete tactile control over everything! I am so happy! 😁 I feel so empowered and inspired, and I am excited about my next date night with my husband because I’ll know better how I look before I leave the house.
Just got brave, went into the bathroom, And tried this for myself... worked beautifully with a stipling brush :) loving that my color options just expanded astronomically.
I think that is also possible however, lip gloss will give you a massive shine on your cheeks that might look sooo oily instead of dewy, but maybe you can apply a lil amount of it. It would depends on how much you'll apply.. Lipstick is perfect coz of the texture of it on your cheeks is just dewy and fresh,
I've done this tons of times. In a pinch, my travel makeup bag is reduced significantly by just bringing the lipstick. Plus, depending on the shade, it also dupes as a girlie cream shadow (usually a pale, blue-based pink is my pick). Another great video!
Hi Wayne, using lipstick as a cream blush is a great way to use up old lipsticks, I'm 61 yrs. young and have been doing this for a very long time, I think it looks better than powder and blending it is so smooth and easy. Love ya Wayne
Thanks! This really helped me. I used to model a few years ago but now I'm an attorney & work in a dry office environment. Powder blush seemed to cause dry skin, a cakey look & big pores. Using lipstick or balm gives a great healthy look! I get the most compliments when I use Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry. It's sheer, healthy, glossy red w/o shimmer
YOU ARE FABULOUS TO ME. I loved you giving some older tips for makeup. Also some of us are not looking to keep buying more makeup. I watch some people, goodness when is it you have enough.
I have done this for years. And it's always great to hear it from a professional and especially from YOU!!!! Love your videos!! Lots of love and admiration from Canada!! M :)
My mum was a cosmetologist in the 60s I grew up watching her put on solftsilver rose by Revlon on her cheeks and lips as u mention.... thanks for bringing back memories...
OK, I have to admit that I never thought of this tip - it would hav never ever enter my consciousness and yet it make perfect sense. And now all of those melted lipsticks, I forget about I will now use a cream blushes and I will save myself a whole bunch of cash. Thanks again and I love this tip. Blessings.
was just about to rush out to buy a creme blush because i have never tried it. but now that u have enlighten me AGAIN. u save me a lot of money. im just going to try out my many lipsticks on my cheeks. im sure i can find one that works! thanks so much xxx
I totally agree! tons of lipsticks come in colors that aren't available as blushes! I put lipsticks on my cheeks all the time. Especially for colors that don't look that great on my lips, but I love anyway.
I remember my grandma doing this when I was a kid. I thought it was a strange thing to do, at the time, but I do it sometimes myself now. It's a good tip. :)
I'm actually using this lipstick method for some two weeks now :) And you're right, it's the best tip ever! I've got a light brown / nude lipstick that I use as a bronzer (perfect shade for me since I'm quite pale) and another one - pale baby pink with some shimmer as a blush / highlighter. I love the effect it gives :)
I usually use a drop of oil or face serum on my hand and then as I rub the lipstick from my palette i would mix a bit of oil with it. It makes it easier to rub on your cheeks without so much rubbing in and pressure and also it gives u a bit of shimmer combined into one. Lipsticks of different brand also has its different textures. Some are more waxy and some not. It can be very sticky when its too waxy for me. This is why I mix it with oil. Cosmetics have been so expensive now a days and I need to learn to maximize the use before wasting money for it.
*MOUTH DROPS OPEN* You are so innovative by bringing something old to the now. I also liked the way you said " women of color", intensely excited. I cant wait to go through my lipsticks and find a color for the spring . Something vibrant and rick for my mahogany skin. Be well. I would love to hear what you would recommend for my skin tone. I make videos as well, you may check me out ;O) Be well ~keep it real
I love using lipsticks as a creme blush! I bought a lipstick that I didn't like the look on my lips, but on my cheeks it came out looking so nice. Plus it's easy if I need a touch-up during the day on my cheeks or lips because they both come in one little tube!
brilliant thankyou. I bought a cheap lipstick the other day but it wasn't the right colour for my lips. but now I can use it for my cheeks :) looks good! ure videos make sense. especially the one about where to apply blusher as we age :)
This so reminded me of my grandma (in an AWESOME way..she was always so beautiful)! She would always always use whatever lipstick she was wearing as her blush for that day. It always looked vibrant, so natural, and beautiful!!!!
I love cream blushes, I buy them even though I know I could just use lipstick, but I think it's still a great tip. For a cream blush addict like me, I like to use lipstick as blush when I travel, cuts back on the packing bulk (since I can't seem to help myself I just keep buying cream blushes lol). Thanks for sharing. I always love your insight!
gosh wayne thanks so much for this tip! i was about to go out to buy cream blushes. i love the effect the lipsticks give!! awesome and so natural!! thank you!!!!!
In the 80s, I did my makeup, ready for work, applied lippy and applied lippy as a blusher, starting with a streak of it on either cheekbone. Got on the bus to go to work, got to work. Worked for about an hour (in a wine shop). Then my boss asked me if I was feeling a bit hot/warm. I looked in the mirror and there were my two streaks of lipstick, still on the cheekbones. Two. Big. Red. Streaks.
I feel vindicated! I've been doing this forever. What I really like is that, by using lipstick on both cheeks and lips, I'm all matched up. I don't go for matchy-matchy as a rule, esp. when it comes to eyes with the rest of my face. But to match lips and cheeks is fine, in my book. I'm only playing up the look of blood as seen through skin, which would, naturally, be the same on both lips and cheeks; just a different intensity. Love your channel!
My mother use to do this all the time, and thought she was just cheap. Oh the arrogance of youth. And thanks you for including women of colour to this. That really made me take notice and take you seriously as an artist.
OMG..thank you Wayne. I just purchased about 15 NYX lipsticks from the site. Im not too fond of the smell on some of them. Has a flowery smell to it and once i applied it on I can kind of taste it. I was about to return them but since you mentioned cream blushers which I love...I'm going to try them out as blushers!!! Thanks. Totally forgot about this old wives trick. =) Much love from California!!!
it's a good advice (obviously true!!!) and I do the same since a long time BUT.....on my face I usually put on only mineral make up, so I don't want to "disturb" my skin with petrolatum and other things like this that normal lipsticks usually contains. so I wear only an eco-bio lipstick on my cheek (for example elf do it ones), following by a mineral power blush or powder to fix it. the result is gorgeous and it remains for hours!!!
This is really timely for me. I've been looking at a few blushes I like but don't really have the money to get them right now. But wouldn't you know it...I have two or three tubes of lipstick I don't use that often that would be perfect for blush! Thanks so much for this video.
I couldn't agree more!!! I remember my mother always using her lipstick as "rouge" on her cheeks and using Maybelline mascara in a little pull out tray with a little brush she would wet and scrub through the tray of dark brown waxy mascara and put it on her lashes!!! So nostalgic!!!
!! Totally going to try it. I've been wanting a cream blush but the brands that carry colors for my skin tone are very expensive and Right now I can't spend so much money on a blusher. This is a great idea thanks! Im thinking of using those long wearing lipsticks see if they last on my cheeks!
This is such a cool thing of you to say, I've done that for years! Easier to put ONE lipstick in your purse, using it for lips and cheeks (on a sheerer way on cheeks, though..) Much smaller purse is needed..
I'm subbing because of this- "The point is - use what you have. You don't have to BUY BUY BUY everything that is new. Sometimes its the old classics that work and continue to work - just like that damp sponge."
I love the idea of this. I have used this many times. I think people were hoping you were show the best ideas of how to apply - a wet makeup sponge, the fingertips, should it be mixed with moisutizer if it's a very matt lipstick and so forth. I think it makes perfect sense to do though. We are so foolish, us consumers, when we buy every little thing for this or that (even in the kitchen when it comes to appliances) when some do multiple or at least double duty. Thanks very much. Just wish you would suggest a how to do this best.
pinching your cheeks still works!! (as long as you have some blood left lol) i use blush for lipstick- i love exhibit a blush for lips !! that topped off with gloss looks sharp-x shelly
You know, I've heard this before but it really clicked tonight when I was going through my lipstick lot and found a bunch I don't like wearing(mainly my NYX round lip sticks that are too thin) and randomly decided to try them on my cheeks. They work great. Nice tip.
It just occurred to me that I have a lipstick palate that I never use because I prefer using a tube of lipstick on my lips that I could totally use on my cheek! Thank you for bringing that idea to my attention.
Yep! I agree! I did a "five minutes - five products" makeup tutorial and used lipstick for my blush. I was almost embarrassed advising to use lipstick as a blusher, too, because it IS so "old fashioned." But it works and works well -- no harm in relying on proven techniques :-) Thanks!
Hi wayne. Like many have said, we love the honest and straight-to-the-point makeup reviews that you give. However, i believe you can make your makeup reviews even better by doing a swatch of the product and/or trying it out on your skin / a model's skin.
I'm going to be going through all of my lipsticks. You are brillant!!!! And so fun to watch. I love that you help people who want to look "better" not different. You have great tips Ole wise one ;)
Oh You're so right! I use lipstick for blush all the time! I don't care if it's "old fashioned" it works. I still like to buy creme blush if I love the color. But it's a great way to get the most out of a product if I can find more than one purpose :o)
I remember my grandmother doing that with her lipstick when I was young. I think the only makeup she ever owned was lipstick...lol. It was nice having a reminder of something from my past...thanks!
Hi Wayne....Another FABULOUS video.....I love the way you really help EVERYONE!! You are the BEST! Love watching your videos.....Keep 'em coming. Your the kinda guy every woman would love to have as her best friend!
hi, could you make (or is there already???) some viedo about what colours of blush are for what skin tones or if should match it with lipstick or eyeshadow ect? What to consider when choosing a bluch colour. Thank you.
i've been doing contouring with lipsticks like years and i always thought it was a bad idea unless you have very dry skin like me lol but now i have your validation and that makes me feel way better wayne lol thanks! by the way if you have a deep skintone very shimery sheer lipstick works great as highlighter too.
Finally someone said it out loud! That's why I love your videos. Tricks are soo obvious and easy and reeeaaaly helpful! And I love this winking part :D
I just used my Lancome Matte shaker on my eyes, cheeks and lips the other day and it looked GORGEOUS!!!! I have the ABH lip palette and I NEVER use it because I HATE having to use a lip brush. But now I have a whole palette of cream blushes 😁😁😁❤❤
My mom used to use lipstick as blush on me as a kid for dance recitals. Always thought it was weird until I started doing my own makeup. Super convienant, especially when traveling :)
thanks for honest videos. ...and for that thing you do with your eye everytime the video is going to finish.... OMG... I lovvvvve it! I am afraid the video ends but love to see how you say "goodbye"...!
lol this is exactly what I did just a few hours ago: went to the drugstore to pick up a light strawberry pink lipstick to use it as a cream blush because we just don't have any cremeblushes in that shade. what a coincidence! and yeeees it's a great idea :D
actually the first time i wore blush, was when my granny applied lipstick on my cheek... i liked the look, but this has been years ago, have to try it again... thanks for the tip!
Soooo … 12 years ago, our Wonderful Wayne was already telling us how to save $$$ by using lipstick 💄 instead of cream blush. Thanks so much, Wayne!! You are the absolute BEST!! ❤️

who says WoC shouldn't wear red lipstick?!
I remember my grandmother doing this, probably from having not much money, however it always looked great. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome trick...today I give a try to my kiko milano lip pencil as a blush...after blending it looks awesome.
i would've never thought to get a brown lipstick for contouring!!! all the bronzers i've used seemed to be muddy on me. THANK YOU for this tip :)
I'm actually using this lipstick method for some two weeks now :) And you're right, it's the best tip ever! Wayne,I admire all your old fashion make up tips. They are the best. Keep up the great job. Some day I hope to see you in Los Angeles
I love using lipsticks as a creme blush! I bought a lipstick that I didn't like the look on my lips, but on my cheeks it came out looking so nice. Plus it's easy if I need a touch-up during the day on my cheeks or lips because they both come in one little tube!
just did this and am absolutely appreciating the ease of the lipsticking's blend-ability and glowiness! *_* ure so awesome lol.
brilliant thankyou. I bought a cheap lipstick the other day but it wasn't the right colour for my lips. but now I can use it for my cheeks :) looks good! ure videos make sense. especially the one about where to apply blusher as we age :)
I have used MAC's slimshine in Mousse to contour for as long as I can remember. It really does blend in so perfectly and its really looks amazing!
I love love LOVE that you care about the make-up trials pertaining to women of color. Thumbs up from me!
without a doubt the best blush ever... my mother did & it worked beautifully... I do & will continue to...
This so reminded me of my grandma (in an AWESOME way..she was always so beautiful)! She would always always use whatever lipstick she was wearing as her blush for that day.
It always looked vibrant, so natural, and beautiful!!!!
YES! finally someone talks about using lipstick as a cream blusher! I do it all the time and it works wonders!

gosh wayne thanks so much for this tip! i was about to go out to buy cream blushes. i love the effect the lipsticks give!! awesome and so natural!! thank you!!!!!
You are the best make up artist i have found on you tube. Thanks darls
Until a year or so ago, I always used lipstick as blush. I was sidetracked by some lovely powder blushes but I still use a lipstick when I travel.

I will definitely try this. I am still using a sponge to apply my foundation. It reminds me of my mom. Thank you for sharing
OMG..thank you Wayne. I just purchased about 15 NYX lipsticks from the site. Im not too fond of the smell on some of them. Has a flowery smell to it and once i applied it on I can kind of taste it. it's a good advice (obviously true!!!) and I do the same since a long time BUT.....on my face I usually put on only mineral make up, so I don't want to "disturb" my skin with petrolatum and other things like this that normal lipsticks usually contains. so I wear only an eco-bio lipstick on my cheek (for example elf do it ones), following by a mineral power blush or powder to fix it. the result is gorgeous and it remains for hours!!!
I was hoping to see you do it. Good to know that using lipstick as blush isn't just a cheap skate option. Thank you.
I'm subbing because of this- "The point is - use what you have. You don't have to BUY BUY BUY everything that is new. Sometimes its the old classics that work and continue to work - just like that damp sponge."
U are the best!!!! i never wear blush just because i dont like thw way it looks in my face, I just tried aplying lipstick... Just Love it!!!
I just love seeing your older video! You are truly an inspiration:)
Awww the expression that u gave while u said 'women of color' is to die for
Wayne, my dear old departed ma taught me this when I was a kid. She did it all the time. Thanks for making me remember that.
u give the best "un biased" advice! love it! xx
Smart, I'm excited to try this with some of my lipsticks, esp. the cream shimmer ones
i use my plum lipstick as a blush together with the lipstick on my lips.. looks so pretty!
Yep!
You give the absolute best tips ever! You should write a book. It would be a best seller!
But now I have a whole palette of cream blushes 😁😁😁❤❤
aaaaaaaaaaaaahhh i apply lipstick as a cream blush! i love the fact that my methods and preferences are so similar to yours because youre amazing!
I am afraid the video ends but love to see how you say "goodbye"...!
thanks so much. having a hard time finding a powder blush that shows up on my dark skin. gotta give this a try, plus its cost effective.
lol this is exactly what I did just a few hours ago: went to the drugstore to pick up a light strawberry pink lipstick to use it as a cream blush because we just don't have any cremeblushes in that shade.
what a coincidence! and yeeees it's a great idea :D
Sometimes we need to be reminded of the simpler way...works best at times! Thanks!
I've never thought about getting a matte brown lipstick to contour. Ah! Great Idea!
I always use lipstick as brush and it's so perfect!! Never going back to ordinary blush
As a darker woman of color...I ABSOLUTELY adore you!!! Much love from NYC ;)
actually the first time i wore blush, was when my granny applied lipstick on my cheek... i liked the look, but this has been years ago, have to try it again...
thanks for the tip!
