This song is a masterpiece of songwriting. The amount of raw emotion that pours from every section and word of this song is immense, yet it never comes across as melodramatic and whiny. You can feel the crushing nature of lost love and potential in this song from the eyes of someone who has never felt this before. It's real, earnest, and above all - powerful. I remember when i was first getting into Twin Fantasy, I was completely enamored with this album upon a couple of listens. And this song crushed me when I subconsciously ascertained how important it was to the overall message of the album. It's heartbreaking, but cathartic hearing Will just absolutely breakdown in each section of the song. And then the music stops, the bass riff changes. And it builds from that with the reprise of "the ocean washed over your grave" line. Like Will has to build himself back up again and move on from the tragedy of young love and lust, the music builds back up. It's just such a shame this song and this album doesn't get more recognition for what it is and what it has brought to the table of conceptual indie pop/rock. Both the 2011 and 2018 versions are excellent and this live rendition is amazing, I would absolutely be an emotional wreck if I were in this audience. Car Seat Headrest are one of the few bands out there that can simultaneously be the soundtrack to the highest and lowest peaks of your life and that's one of the many reasons why I fell in love with their music.
Can't imagine it's one of the popular pieces the audience would recognize and way too long for many attention spans. Surprise, audience! So glad they did it live despite though! Such an epic song that captures the unique angst of first love and heartbreak perfectly.
This means such a lot! Really grateful for this. Since I am from India, it's probably gonna be impossible to catch them live (heck! I haven't even been to any concert till date). So videos such as these keep me going
was hoping to figure out what the fuck the bass is supposed to do during the "we gotta go back" part but now i'm just jealous of whoever could see this live. tragic :(

Wait tf are the lyrics?? Idk some?
They are.
It’s a possibility this is an earlier draft of the 2018 version, the lyrics you have no idea were scrapped and then replaced with the ones we know
“On this day which began as execution day
Which sure enough became (execution day)”
I love this but WHAT THE FUCK ARE THESE LYRICS!!!
the 2011 version
this so fucking good my cat started barking
