"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on UA-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on UA-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

The GOP: we are pro life
The GOP: if you can’t afford health care, well sucks to be you, we ain’t doing anything to help you
Wouldn't this hypocrisy also apply to the left.

Yeah no one knows what its like to have an infant thats terminal and having to watch them struggle. I know someone who had to make that choice and they’re not okay and I do not ever expect them to be. I can’t fathom the cruelty in the name of staying with a base.
This exactly. Someone needs to bring a concrete example of when this would take place (people respond better to specifics than generalities) and ask these congressmen point blank ok camera why they want to tor ture babies
unlike the slow and pernicious grinding of our rights away with the patriot act, americans saw their rights get taken away from them right in front of their eyes with the removal of roe. americans can see that republicans are taking the country back 50 years, or in the case of arizona back 160 years
Oh? What about the rights of that child in the womb? Does that child not have a right to live? To grow? To experience all of what living has to offer?
@@KenAnderson-i5n no
@@KenAnderson-i5n...And do you want that baby to have a miserable life if they are not wanted? Or if the mother is in no position to care for them? What if the mother is a drug addict? You think that baby is going to be taken care of? Also, many abortions take place because something goes wrong with the pregnancy or the baby has a defect. It is so easy for you to judge when you don't have to raise and take care of those babies yourself. The majority of abortions take place in the first trimester of pregnancy. You can't force this upon others, just like how you can't force anyone to agree to become an organ donor. You are saying to take away freedom from your own body and medical choices if you are anti-choice... period.
@@brendag5263 So do you have the crystal ball that will guarantee you know that child's future will be miserable? And is that the standard we should use to determine whether or not they live or die, is that they might have a miserable future? And I am not judging, I want to protect innocent life. Except in the cases of rape, (which is a tiny, tiny fraction of a percent of the abortions performed), the woman voluntarily agreed to participate in an activity that has potential consequences. One of which is the possibility of pregnancy. Her choice was made when she engaged in that activity. As was his. Oh and you want to talk about forcing choices? How about when a father of a child wants to have the child but she does not? What choice does he get? What rights does he have? And as far as medical choices, slaughtering an innocent child so you don't have to be burdened with the responsibility that comes from your actions is not medical care, it is murder.
@@KenAnderson-i5nSo it’s okay to kill a baby if the mother was raped? How is that the baby’s fault?

The man's a wordsmith.
Exceptions for rape and incest do not make any sense. If the argument is that abortion is murder, why should it matter why the fetus exists? The fetus didn't rape anyone. On the conservative view, that's an innocent life; the fetus is as much an innocent as the mother in those cases. It just shows how unprincipled the conservative view is. It isn't about life but controlling women, and they can't have women giving birth to babies born from something they think is shameful.
Right wingers don’t even think rape or incest is shameful. Only when a white woman is a victim and the perpetrator isn’t white.
Also, Trump supports IVF.
With IVF…dozens of embryos are discarded. So if they’re consistent, parents who use IVF would be serial killers lol.
So much for
“life begins at conception”…
Personally I think it might be more pro-corporation and military than intentionally anti-woman. Anti-abortion policies absolutely hurt men as well, just way less than also having your body and brain be altered as something feeds and grows inside you against your will. Who's going to help pay and care for all these kids? Lots of men. Taxes, crime, and stress/suffering will increase. We've already been through this, but we'll re-learn about that soon.
I mean in a way it does violate your hole when it comes out. Because you never consented the things prior or it coming out in that scenario… So you get violated under that logic still. Maybe not a double r8p but double vio (out of the control of the baby ofc, but still). If a guy “accidentally” violates a person via his mental health not being healthy enough to know what he’s doing is wrong, is still him doing wrong is it not? Mental impairment doesn’t steal agency away.
Not even conservative or pro life but nah, it’s because the rape one is forced and the incest one people just find disgusting. Conservatives have been shown to rank higher in their disgust factor. Look up Social Psychologist Jonathan Haidt from NYU and his research. Could it be seen as inconsistency in their principles? Arguably yes, but I actually think it comes from a place of empathy not wanting to control women. When talking to them, most them can not imagine giving birth to a child that was forced inside them. Also if you think it’s preposterous for conservatives to have empathy, I’d once again recommend Jonathan Haidt. His research has shown people on the left have a much more difficult time understanding people on the right than people on the right understanding the left.
I still wonder why anyone would want this man as their representative let alone their president.
Stupid people, that’s who.
I’ve been wondering the same thing for almost a decade now
They're either wealthy or they think he will make them wealthy. I know a family openly saying he's better than Biden - and only because they have a castle for a house. They know he will give them more tax breaks. It's honestly disgusting. No regard for middle class or poor Americans whatsoever.

"Precious babies, beautiful babies, they're gonna be yuge, big beautiful--they're Trump babies honestly."
Why leave it up to anyone? Abortion is a thing between a woman, her doctor and whoever else she includes. Why the fuck does the state or government get to interfere?
💯
Because there are those that threat it as murder. If you kill someone, the state goes after you for it.
Even if a state decides to outlaw abortions under the grounds that they believe that it kills a baby, they should be required to pay for the procedure to separate the pregnant person and the baby via an adequately funded child protective services program.
The job of child protective services is to protect children from serious harm and substantial risk(s) of harm even if it's from the(a) parent(s).
If the person pregnant with whom the state considers to be a baby expresses the desire to have a medical procedure that would end the life of that baby, then certainly the child protective services program would be required to separate them the same way they would if the baby was born and living in the same house.
Arguably, each state could be given funds to cover such procedures on or after a certain length of pregnancy or development unless the state elects to forgoe funding inorder to make abortions legal untill later in the pregnancy. Requiring such a procedure to be done in lieu of a non preserving traditional abortion at earlier stages of unwanted pregnancy's should require the state(s) requiring that to foot the bill for those procedures.
Ie. Red states should have to pay for artificial wombs instead of forcing unwilling pregnant people to labor.

Its not that deep. Trump personally is pro life but understands that his personal believe is irrelevant to the constitution and the will of the people state by state. Its a moderate position giving the power back to the states and its people and not one overlord who personally decides on his own single believe. Its more than any other politician will be honest about.
That would be a reasonable possibility if he didn't constantly shift his position to fit an audience or a political climate as other politicians do. Also, letting states choose who has rights is not necessarily a moderate position as that has been the same position pro-slavery and pro-segregationists took the second they realized they were unable to enforce national laws on those issues. Supporting state's rights in this case has a lot more to do with the lack of political support than it does in some principled position. If it was principled, then does he support legalizing marijuana on a federal level to give power back to the states? What about sanctuary cities? Finally, a person trying not to tell others how to live their lives would be pro-choice as that literally leaves it to the family/individual rather than the local, state, or federal government.
He’s on the ozempic
