Even for who don't even like horror most of the reactions is yes people love it 😊 I'm very happy this movie from my era is getting such respect it deserves every bit of it.
"I dunno what the hell's in there, but it's weird and pissed off, whatever it is." Fun Fact: According to an apocryphal story first reported on Reddit in February 2013, when asked about the ambiguous ending of the film, John Carpenter responded that he never understood how could there be any confusion about whether Childs or MacReady are human or not, because the last scene shows: "Kurt Russell and Keith David staring each other down, harshly backlit. It's completely, glaringly obvious that Kurt Russell is breathing, and Keith David is not." Budget Friendly Fact: The Norwegian camp scenes were actually the charred remains of the American site from the end of the film. Rather than go to the expense of building and burning down another camp, John Carpenter re-used the destroyed American camp. Practical Effects Fact: The film is considered a benchmark in special make-up effects. The effects were created by Rob Bottin, who was only 22 when he started the project. To create the effect of the title, an animation cell with "The Thing" written on it was placed behind a smoke-filled fish tank which was covered with a plastic garbage bag. The bag was ignited, creating the effect of the title burning onto the screen.
About the ending, I don't think that Carpenter will ever officially confirm what his intention for the ending was because having fans speculate and theories is the best. But all the details about the movie points to Childs being the thing: the coat, the suspicious behavior and the bottle. Here is the detail: whatever is in that bottle, it doesn't matter because if they learned anything from the movie it was to not share drinks or saliva or anything that a thing might have touched because of risk of infection. The fact that Childs took the bottle so quickly without questioning if MacCready is infected or not, points out that Childs's blind trust IS a clue that he infected and he has nothing to fear of MacCready. About who got to the blood. Windows dropped a set of keys when he discovered Bennings bring infected. Norris or Palmer could have taken the keys and got to the blood before the doctor had time to get to the uncontaminated blood and sneaked the keys back in Garry's office.
Julian Marco ...Two things about the Fun Fact: 1) Apocryphal. Look it up. 2) What is this movie about? Think about it for more than five seconds. Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
That's rubbish - Carpenter said the breath diffetence wasnt intentional - plus if you look hard enough you can see a slight breath. Both of them have warm insides regardless if the Thing or not, so the breath thing is irrelevant. Also doesn't Child's have an erring at the end?
Dude Hello so good to see you!! This is one of my favorite John Carpenter movies ever made! The film was a box office and critical disappointment making $19 million dollars against a $15 million dollar budget. It recieved mixed reviews by Critics. Roger Ebert called it "a great barf bag movie" Others called it "Boring Dull and a Wretched Excess." However it's gained a cult following overtime and has been regarded as one of John Carpenter's best movies ever made.
Blair probably wasn't infected when he was smashing things. Listen to what he's yelling. He was just a little smarter than the others and realized immediately that the priority was to stop the thing from reaching civilization. Infected people typically didn't scream and smash things with everybody watching. Someone got to him when he was isolated in the shed.
Exactly mate, if you listen he's saying the rest of the crew don't know what's going on and that the Thing wants the be like them. The Thing just wouldn't do that, it would keep quiet and just pick folks off one by one until everyone was assimilated.
If he was human he would have seen the equipment was already smashed and stripped minus the radio. If he was the Thing~ his rampage makes awesome cover, and the humans believe he did the damage right now when in fact he did it 2days prior. No one was checking till he smashed the radio. The equipment was striped after the first light whiteout storm of Day in to night. This movies timeline is only 5days, 2 light 3 dark. Blairs door is bolted from the outside all the way up till palmer release's him for the generator. If Blair dug that hole while the door is bolted we would see snow piles inside from his digging up tons of snow. The reason we don't see evidence of this is because Blair took care of the hole much earlier on. While the machinery was still functional to make the hole fast and spread out the snow outside. If you ask me, the hover ship is a real plot hole. "but" if we give Blair the most time allowed to construct his hole and stairs and ship, it's plausible. If you only give him the time he spends in the shed, he could not gather parts then the door was still bolted. The door becomes un-bolted around the 7hr mark of the ending of 5days, Mac gives us this time with the weather report of the last nights storm. Blair still has to attack Childs to get past the doorway, to remove the generator. Childs stumbles out, we now have only 2hrs left of the 5days and the end of the movie. We know this from Childs telling us he was wandering around for 2hrs till he found Mac. Childs story about Blair can't be true, but Mac has no clue its a lie. If what Childs says is true then the generator doesn't get pulled within 10 seconds of Childs leaving the lighted area. This is because he is going after Blair. Problem with this story is when the camera shows us the empty post of Childs, we see Foot scuffle marks in the doorway.
@@brandonflorida1092 Well there are two mistakes...long-windedness and what she says still doesn't make any sense. It's completely wrong headed for Blair to give a commentary on what the Thing wants to do if Blair is the Thing...I hope this was consise enough 😉😊
@@brandonflorida1092Doesn't matter, most people can't read anyways. Who buys a newspaper anymore. Or read instruction on how to do anything. This movie would be to complicated, for todays audience to follow. " the term boring would be their assessment, or to slow of pace."
1. The Norwegian killed himself so The Thing couldn't get to him. 2. The ultimate hand grenade throwing FAIL 🙄🙄 3. You have to realize that this movie came out long before CGI so there was some very creative practical effects showcased here. 4. Mac's not a murderer. Clark was attacking him with the scalpel. It was self defense. 5. Of everything that went down the part that got me the most was when Blair was dragging Gary by the face. 6. Their fate is left up to the audience. Maybe it's best they all die. 7. They're re-making this sans Carpenter and Russell. 8. Another Russell/Carpenter product you need to first time/share with us is "Escape from New York". Howdy Dylan, it's been a while. Great to see you and your lovely girl. I hope at some point, you to get to react to my favorite movie of all time, "Pulp Fiction" (Unless you both have seen it, then never mind). Either way I'm writing this before I watch, so time to sign off and watch the reaction. Cheers to you both. (edit: grrr, just got to the 1-minute mark, and you saw it, never mind lol)
Except you can see Childs breath but you have to look very carefully. Also Bennings is definitely a Thing but you can clearly see the condensation when he roars just before they burn him.
If any of your friends can guess that Norris is The Thing without having seen this. You should definitely buy them dinner because they're damn good at guessing movies. I definitely would 🤣
The movie “The Thing” is mistrust, suspicion, and paranoia personified! It is the story of desperate man, isolated in the middle of nowhere, trapped in a hopeless situation in which the fate of the whole world hangs in the balance. What would you do?
You're backkk!!!!!
Its good to be back ❤

Yes hard to believe but then there was a reason. At the time E.T. was playing in theaters.

can you see the breath?
