I didn't know what to expect, since I had never seen a production from the Teatro Manoel before. But this is very enjoyable. The chorus delivered a full sound even though they are not as numerous as Washington National Opera Chous when I saw "l'Elisir" performed there years ago.
The highlight for me is that Cliff Stevens plays the part of Nemorino to perfection. He has a soaring, liquid instrument with which to carry this off, plus exactly the right stage presence at every point. Shoushik Barsoumian likewise is the personification of the fickle Adina; at first displaying an air of intellectual superiority over the men around her (especially Nemorino), but then weakening as her heart gets the better of her.
Valdis Jansons as Belcore is amazing - what gorgeous sounds flow out of him! (I concede he doesn't dazzle enough to outshine Nemorino, But that is as it should be. Sometimes older singers are cast as Belcore, but it's easier to see Adina falling for him as a younger officer. Some productions load Belcore up with medals and epaulettes, but he's a sergeant, not a colonel, so the spareness of his uniform is appropriate. For a Maltese production, it's fine to show the men as sailors rather than infantry.
Finally, Luciano Miotto does full justice to the comic role of Dulcamara, even if he seems a bit more of a softie and less of a swindler as is sometimes done.

Beautiful staging of Donizetti’s jewel of an opera. The cast sang beautifully. Great young voices. Wonderful production.🎶🎶👏👏

Generalmente odio las puestas en escena de óperas ambientadas en tiempo actual o tiempo modero, pero en este caso todo ocurre de modo muy natural, sin 'retorcer' la ópera original. Muy buena versión! Gracias por compartirla
