The one downside for you as English speakers is that you probably don't know how hilarious the Saxon dialect is 😂 It just sounds so ridiculously funny to any other German, it's hard to explain. To put it this way: you could look upon the most beautiful person you ever saw in awe - as soon as they open their mouth and speak Saxon, you'll be rolling round the floor laughing.

All I know is that when I meet someone who speaks with that dialect, I feel like everything I learned is out the window! I've started to figure out some of it, but when I switch from someone speaking German from anywhere else to someone speaking Sächsisch, my brain explodes a bit. Love the people, but it's hard to understand!

Saxon is the least popular German dialect. Still, I like it much better than Bavarian and other Southern German dialects. If someone speaks 100% dialect even I as a German won't understand a word. 😢

nice job ai. keep in mind: people in eastern germany and also mostly eastern europe who are older than 40 today, used to have only russian as a second language in school. historical reasons. some of them taught themselves english afterwards. 🧠

How is ChatGPT working? As I know, it consumes texts written from humans, analyses it what is common in the most and then extract this. Is this really intelligent? There is no real understanding - or?

    • @OnwardMJ
      @OnwardMJ  Рік тому

I don't know all of the details behind how it works, but I think it's supposed to be more intelligent than just searching and analyzing. I've only messed with it a little bit - plenty more to learn about how to use it effectively and what it can really do. Although here in Germany, we might not get the chance. I saw something saying the government wanted to ban it over privacy concerns...

@@OnwardMJ Well, some european countries debate about a ban. In my opinion, I don't think this will happen given that companies will find a way to handle personal data in a proper way in order to comply to the regulations.
It's an interesting technology, I'm working on machine learning at work (we don't call it AI, because this is a misleading marketing term).
In general I can say, you can automate any process with machine learning or in particular deep learning, which can be automated using other methods, too. But I have to make one thing clear, there is NO AI...at the moment. We simply don't have a theoretical concept to produce real artificial intelligence...at the moment.
Using machine learning, we can automate processes very easily and fast, but we have to understand this is not intelligence, it's statistics. In order to train a neural network a huge amount of training data is needed. This data needs to be supervised by humans in order to meet the requirements of the target function. The better the quality of the training data, the better the neural network will do its job. The problem is, the neural network cannot tell apart good and bad training data, because it has no understanding of the data. This why human supervision is needed but often neglected.
For example, if you explain someone what racism means, this person doesn't need millions of examples to understand, what you mean. This is because you describe it and the person you tell it, will think about it and come to a conclusion. If you train a neural net like ChatGPT with millions of books and conversations and 30% of those are racist, then the resulting neural network will have a racist tendency of about 30%. You can try to correct that, but that's hard and costs a lot of time. That's why companies like OpenAI implement filters which supervise the output of their chat bot. If ChatGPT is saying something completely stupid, the filter will block the output. Those filters are primitive, they mostly look for certain words or phrases. This is why ChatGPT appears so astonishing in contrast to former bots like Tay (Microsoft).
The technology is amazing, but we need to be aware of the flaws and risks. A ban is inappropriate, but we need definitely regulations, especially about the selection of training data and the approval procedures for public use of machine learning.

What a fun video 😍! Now, I am REALLY curious to learn what that ChatGPT has to say about living in the US as a German 😊😁 I might do it right after I finished your video 😃 #StealingYourIdeaWithPride 😉❤️

Impressed, not much. It's a repetition of stereotypes, the material AI was trained, representing mainstream phrases, does not differentiate between regions e.g. diversity, poc in East Germany. Generalisations plus enforced friendliness in ChatGPT responses. No fringe opinions are represented. Not everybody welcome foreigners. Especially work-life-balance comes with the surprise of Americans that shops are closed on Sundays.

Like most Americans, not enough! Outside of English, I have my moderate German, and I'm also learning Spanish (but still in the early stages - I pretty much forgot everything I learned in High School).
