In the album version and in some of the concert videos, you can hear him quietly sobbing as the song ends. It's haunting, but beautiful.

@@zachwillowbay1553 You draw upon emotionally disturbing or haunting moments or situations that you were in and you can pull it off. Or if you connect with what you've written at that level. Not everyone can do that.
I love Sleep Token because I think he's introducing a lot of metalheads to this type of vocal that you'd usually only hear in something like Pop or R&B. It's beautiful and I love the genre-bending he does.
I agree. You hit the nail on the head. My wife is a big BIG Taylor swift fan. She does not like metal. But she actually appreciates Sleep Token and rocks out to their music. So that says something for a modern metal band
Tool has been doing this for decades. Love this band, they carry the torch.
@@cameronwhite9286 I'd say Periphery is another band that does this. Lune, Satellites, Flatline, Stranger Things. All very melodic, and heavy when they need to be.
Nothing like Tool or Sleep Token, but they're a wonderful melding of heavy extreme vocals and clean clean melodies all the same.
the coolest thing about this band is that technically vessel isn't even the one that is entirely responsible for the music from what I read vessel is influenced by a deity called sleep I believe all of the band members worship it but it only reveals itself to vessel I could be wrong about this because obviously I don't know the band personally but still that's pretty f#ck!ng cool especially because it seems like everything this band touches turns to gold
I would also recommend Tom Englund's project Silent Skies. They have got some gorgeous songs. And also, Evergrey for that matter, heavy yet melodic.
Sleep Token were the find of lockdown for me.
I need to delve into more, his voice is amazing.

I actually don't agree with your last point; to me, it feels like I've walked in on something that was meant just for me. Not literally speaking, just for me as in for a very specific audience of people who have gone through certain things. It feels extremely personal and welcoming...

6:40 It IS imperfect. Because it was meant to be. It is an emotional song coming from a place of pure emotion, plus this was from their debut album, so I wouldn't put it past Vessel if he never had any true vocal training and he was just absolutely using his raw vocal chords and using his emotion to guide his voice instead of the usual techniques to protect them. It just makes it sound real and raw because it IS. And that's the beauty of this song, man.
I've been waiting to see a vocal coach react to Vessel! He is genuinely a singer worth worshipping. Sleep Token are special.
His voice has matured so beautifully since I first heard him years ago. I hope he has a long and satisfying journey along with all the Sleep Token members.
Whoever Vessel is, he should be up their with the greats. His vocals are par none. Same for the rest of the band. They're highly slept on.

@@leeclingenpeel8823I think it is Leo. I do voice over and am a vocalist. I usually have a keen ear to identify actors or singers when i hear their voices. If I'm wrong I will admit it but it's a great mystery. If you go and listen to Blacklit canopy I think you'll see why people think it's him. But it's also good music. :)
I'm pretty sure this was recorded in one take all the way through, it's a stripped back version of the original album version, with drums and guitars
Ive never heard someone discribe vessels voice the way i do. Its the emotion, it sounds so raw but it so technical! Im so happy i found your review. Sleep token is something so very special on the world of music.
Also, one of the only vocalists ive found that sounds even better live than in studio.

when i heard "night does not belong to god" for the first time, I was walking down the street and I literally had to stop walking and was like ... wtf?? who is this guy?? still my favorite song from ST to this day and maan, there are so many great tunes out
Check out the offering by these guys, also 'sugar' is maybe my favourite vocal performance of all time - this is just the start of a great journey with this band

Seen these guys live in Glasgow with Architects! Even better live! I wasn't a huge fan beforehand but after seeing them live I fell in love with Sleep Token and love every song! His voice is amazing, and brings tears to my eyes every time!

Seen these guys live a few times. First time I was just in awe. Literally just standing and staring and taking it all in. Fucking magical, they're special.

Great reaction. Please say you will do more Sleep Token! His voice and range is amazing and every song is different so you will hear so many different styles. I believe Vessels vocal range is B ♭2 to F#5 and he has a wonderful chest voice, head voice and scream. 🖤
It just doesn’t get any better, IMO. Vessel’s the best.

Hey Sam, awhile ago I was in your discord and recommended the studio version of this song in your #suggestions channel i think. I know you’re flooded with recommendations but i knew one day you’d get to Vessel and Sleep Token so this is just absolutely awesome for me to see finally.
Couldn’t hear it here for some reason, but in the original recording you can actually hear him sobbing at the end. Just an insane outpouring of emotion…

Do their song Take me back to Eden, his voice is ethereal and there is so much emotion and it is one journey of a song. It has become my favourite song of all time

Try listening to Take Aim by them, I think youd love it. Also check out Constance by Spiritbox, they have a beautiful singer
But this is part of a deluxe extension of their LP with three other songs in this style. When the party's over, I wanna dance with somebody and shelter which is an original. All done in what I'm pretty sure are all raw one takes with just piano and vocals
Finally someone mentions Take Aim. It is the most underrated ST song.

Oh man so much love for Sleep Token! Wish you would check out the music video for Parallel, by Seven. Brad Tuttle has the most underrated vocals in the genre. Don't even get me started on the song Brimstone that features Kutter from Eldest 11. You have ALOT of music to catch up on Mr. hehe

@samscott-thorne:sessionsinge , I felt the same way, i am a metal guy been singing for over 30 years kinda a cross between Corey Taylor and Maynard Keenan, and I found these guys through Will Ramos from Lorna Shore doing their song Hypnosis and I said the same thing Sam, not much gets to me but these guys when i discovered them 3 weeks ago in one night I cried my eyes out to every one of their songs, I am in awe of Vessel, I ended up learning this one , the way we were , and Hypnosis,, I did Hypnosis with my pals band the other night out,, I am so blushing over this band
