- Today we're taking a look at two one-of-a-kind offerings-- one from Taylor, one from Martin! These two guitars are both acoustic... and that's where the similarities end. We picked them up from the Guitarlington show last month and would love to hear what y'all think. Take a listen to the demos and specs and let us know if one might be the right one for you.

The Taylor sounds like a Taylor...
But that Martin has the bottom of a dread, with a sparkly top end that is perfect.
Valiant effort by the Taylor but the Martin takes the crown!
That Martin is the one you say that’s the one that got away
Rarely do I give an opinion on guitar comparisons but to my ear the Martin is definitely superior. But as always everyone hears something different. That's what's great about acoustics.
What a really great Video, I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your Videos, both your playing and inter reaction is great and entertaining. Must be a joy to handle such beautiful and exotic Guitars. I’m an 75 year old European living in southwest Britain who once played the Guitar back in the 60s and you’ve rekindled my interest in playing again, Thanks. Keep safe Guys. How I’d love a Martin, mind both those Guitars sounded fantastic.
Wow, this was a challenging one for me. I consider myself being a Taylor guy that don't like Martins, period. I have 6 Taylors, 0 Martins. Like you, Chris, I have a custom GS with macassar ebony back and sides, mine comes with a spruce top, and I love it. But the sound of that deep body OM Martin was stunning, and like Cooper, I love the CFM headstock logo. Maybe it's time for a Martin now...?
Lovely guitars.. I'd take the martin over the taylor in this one..
Guitar Taylor and Martin superb warm and powerful sound, and beautiful woodwork for a superb resonance .. Thank you for sharing, I have the 614ce NL maple, that happiness, a dream ....
Martin for me Taylor for Chris
Martin for the win.
Martin...as always...wins! ; )
Martin is awesome.
Both have fine tones. I don’t see the Martin being worth double the standard OM28, however. The Taylor has that pristine clear high end and the Martin their patented low E and A. The Taylor is unique in it stop and probably the best complement to the standard spruce rosewood combination.
I'm kind of a Taylor fanboy, but that Martin is the right combination of everything.
Martin om 28 for sure 👍
I suspect Chris likes the Taylor more than the Martin OM.
Nahhhh really? What would give you that impression? Lol
To me Chris has always unabashedly shown his love and preference for Taylor’s. But that is just the impression I get after watching this channel for a very long time.
WOW the Martin !
Wow, Chris! Great descriptions. and selections from Guitarlington, so I've been looking … All I need is the right benefactor (or benefactress?) (and there's this incredibly figured back on a Taylor all-koa Grand Concert...) This Idaho kid goes with the Montanan ("Go Griz!") sentiment, Chris likes Taylor, and the sinker redwood adds some solidity by absorbing minerals from the water it's been submerged in. Happy Thanksgiving! Celebrate in that spirit every day. Time to soak a batch of beans to bake tomorrow...
There is no right answer only what you like. For me I love the sinker redwoods deep sound. Martin has a lovely brighter top end. Both are great guitars! 👍
Now, just to show difference.... To me the Taylor sounds brighter on the top end and the Martin has a smooth mellow tone. But my ears are different than yours and it may be totally different to both of us in a live situation. But I agree, there is no right answer, its personal preference.
@@MrBigdee183 I agree, earphones thru a phone are not the best. Nothing beats hearing and playing a guitar in person.
The Martin is the winner in my book. I would consider adding a Taylor to my collection someday if I found one that spoke to me, however, it would have to be a special order without the plastic knobs on it. I mean why would a manufacturer put plastic knobs on such a beautiful piece of art like a guitar?
That Taylor is just dripping in gorgeous aesthetic beauty! And sound to match.
Living in South Georgia and in the land of the Bluegrass festivals, I was gravitating towards Martin before you played them both. I was really impressed with the low end of the custom Martin but that Taylor had such an all around earful of sound in my headphones that it seemed to edge over the top in my humble opinion. I have several acoustic guitars and lead worship at my church so I am looking for that next level of guitar and have really been seeking out Martin. A friend of mine just bought a Taylor and recommended I seriously check them out. Thoughts?
Martin all the way. Treble high and woody lows.
I think in my headphones that the Taylor had more high end while the Martin had the deeper low end that almost over rides the highs...that's what I heard anyway. Both are great guitars!
Beautiful Taylor, especially the neck. As far as the sound, I’ve always been fond of Martin. Both guitars sound great. However, I’m a huge fan of Takamine. I own the 1992 Takamine ST26 in white with abalone inlay on the neck, around the sound hole, up the sides and binding, also on the pegs. It has gold tuners, with the name stamped on the closed backs. Only 100 of them were made. I bought this brand new and it sounds as good now, holds a tune now just as well as it did the first day. I’ve never had any work done to it. There’s no scratches or dings or dents on it anywhere. And it’s in the original case. No other guitar matches it’s beauty or sounds as good…solid spruce top, rosewood fretboard, C shape neck.
Why does every discussion about guitars have someone who has to bring up an irrelevant guitar that they own and humble brag about it?
Ok now its' been a year. Tell us which one you liked best Chris!
What would be a good sounding acoustic guitar amp?
The Martin seems muted, like it has a few socks inside it or something compared to the Taylor. The Taylor is brighter, projects better. Listening to both of them on headphones, you can really hear that. I think it depends on what you want out of a guitar.
Only thing Taylor does better than Martin is inlays. Martin sound is vastly superior.
The Martin has a classic beautiful sound, but that Taylor has a magical sound that I’d just want to keep playing!
I like the Taylor 😬
Me? Depends on what I'm playing. I like the sound of the Taylor especially for singing.
I like the Taylor. It just sounds amazing.
That's an Elizabeth Taylor.Real exotic & pretty but the marriage ain't gonna last.
TAYLOR! But the Martin is also good....more mellow. I like the crispness of the Taylor.
Honestly my GS mini beats both
Come on now 😉
I preferred the Taylor.
I would have a pre lawsuit takamine before a taylor.
Haha. Someone is very opinionated. I hope you get an absolutely outstanding Martin some day. I’ll happily take all the Taylors that you pass up.
I think the Martin sounds better for finger picking and the Taylor sounds better for strumming.
Looks - Taylor wins hands down
Seems like fan boys on both sides. Martin boys always seem snobbish even when a Martin sounds muddy.
There is only martin. The end.
I'd take the Taylor over the Martin no doubt about it.
Martin all the way. Wouldnt have a taylor.
In 2020 I paid $729.00 for a Gretsch Rancher Falcon Jumbo Acoustic/Electric Sounds better than these Custom Shops the Custom Shop thing is nothing but hype a marketing Con Job
