    The Dalton movies are so underappreciated, not only do they stand up on their own merits but they were essentially the transition from the cartoonish surreal Bond into a more realistic and believable character. Goldeneye and the following movies would probably have been totally different without Daltons Portrayal of Bond.

      If it wasn't for the contract issues with MGM, the Brocolis et al Goldeneye would have been his third. You can see it was clearly written with Dalton in mind, being more serious than the rest of Brosnans movies. Supposedly Dalton would only have been months away from the start of shooting had he not finally thrown in the towel and terminated his contract. I'd love to meet him one day and just shake his hand

      And when you look at the Roger Moore movies, the more like the MCU marvel, then an actual true bond progression from star to middle of the finish that’s what I think a whole lot of slapstick humor with an every scene which is complete stupid

    True Bond fans know & appreciate Dalton. Dalton's Bond was ahead of he's time and so far away from Moore's Bond. However a combination of not marketing the films perhaps as well as could have been & Dalton not having enough films to escape Roger Moore's shadow mean he's kinda forever referred to as "& who's the other guy who was Bond?" He's movies actually hold up better than Brosnan's which had a lot of marketing. Although Bronson wasn't bad by any means... Brosnan was imo, more in tune with being a Movie star & all the attention that goes with it too.

    Interesting comments by Dalton, but slightly odd to me. Firstly killing someone is not the same thing as murder, so I disagree that the character murdered in cold blood. Dalton describes the character as the dirtiest, meanest, toughest, nastiest, brutalist hero. Well he wasn't really mean and nasty. All actions that appeared so, if taken out of context, were done for a greater cause. So the character showed a lot of selflessness. Was the character Dirty? Not really, the character always showed honourable qualities and a strong desire for Justice. Brutal and Tough, I can't disagree with. But at heart Dalton's description is a bit off the mark with the books imo.
    And lastly it's interesting that how he betrayed the character was somewhat different to how he describes his view of the character. He portrayed the character as firm, resolute, determined, professional, driven, but also honourable, kind and caring,, if fact he probably showed a lack of coldness.
    But he gave a great performance, especially in Living Daylights, and I think he was brilliant.

    • @niall3973
      @niall3973 3 місяці тому

      @@bouya642 I'm not so sure. As a lover Daltons Bond is no where near as cold as Connery or Moore. For example I couldn't see Dalton play Bond as Moore did in scenes with Solitaire and Rosie in Live and Let Die. And Connery's Bond in general showed very little genuine care for his lovers, for example Tatiana Romanova. Could I see Moore or Connery's Bond jump over the balcony into the pool at the end of License to Kill, or turn up to the concert romantically at the end of Living Daylights....probably not.
      I'll grant that the Dalton films themselves were darker, and the character was played more seriously than in most if not all of Connery's and Moore's films, but in terms of the Bond Character himself I think Moore and Connery's Bond character were colder and showed a crueller colder edge. Even the Pushkin assassination scene didn't feel cold, just professional and planned. Dalton was more emotive, like when he discovered Felix and his wife after Sanchez's attack. You never saw that kind of human emotion from Connery or Moore in their films. Their portrayal was more subtle in terms of displaying emotion.
      But hey it's just my opinion after probably seeing Connery to Brosnan's films many times over 25 years. I like them all, well except for Craig's Bond....which is probably more to do with the writing and direction(ruination) of the character than Craig himself.

      @@niall3973the problem I personally have with Craig is I can very easily see him as a bond villain! Craig could be transposed into Sean Beans character in Goldeneye. Whereas personally I can't see any of the other Bonds in that role except perhaps Connery.

    I'm sure that Bond's actions in Dr No and FRWL were quite shocking in 1962 and 63, but by 1971 you couldn't really shock audiences. Watch Get Carter, The French Connection, Dirty Harry - all 1971. OK, Dalton wanted the series to be for adults, but Goldfinger had ruined that in 1964 (yeah, I said it). Moore started off quite dark, but Lewis Gilbert captured his lighter side, as did John Glen. My acid test for whether I like a chap is whether I'd want to have a few pints with him. Moore definitely. Lazenby yes. The others probably. Connery? No thanks.
