I am from Norway and remember the accident very well. It was on the news every single day for several days. I have watched the documentary many times, equally impressed as I was moved by the group of friends who dived in secret to retrieve their deceased friends. The police never opened a case for the illegal diving and no one was charged or convicted. Everyone understood that they wanted to get their friends out. A great video with the production quality of Blue World.
Brother i thought that the people of norway dont know how to speak in english.. Seing this i am surprised. So dear.. I would like admit myself in any norway university.. So can you help me by giving me some information. If you can i will be very beyyer for me
This is the cave diving tragedy that got me hooked on all those Mr. Ballen stories, dive talk, and this channel too! Such a crazy story. RIP to the 2 who lost their lives
Can’t express how much exciting and new things I learn from BlueWorldTV and Jonathan Bird. This is channel is a gem.
A Blue GEM indeed!
What an adventure! I appreciate the way you highlighted the safety precautions you were taking, such as doing a test dive to see if you could handle the cold. You do some crazy daredevil dives, but you never encourage people to follow in your footsteps without adequate training and safety policies.
Great video Mr. Bird. I'm glad you made it out to Norway for this experience. The balance between reverence, macabre and the beauty of exploration was perfect. Keep them coming and I will keep watching.
Thank you so much.
I remember watching you when I was little and wanting to be scuba certified. Thank you for getting me into diving.
Congratulations on the certification!
FINALLY!
I have been waiting for this episode for several months by now, since you teased about it probably 5-6 months ago. And as I suspected, it was an epic one!
Well done Jonathan and Todd! :-D
Thanks!!
...two people died in this cave... the entire hillside collapsed into this cave... there's a blizzard around this cave... this cave is also freezing - Let's go! You're *that* crazy. Thanks for bringing us along :)
I watched the documentary with my dad when it came out. I remember him telling me about it and how we should watch it. I never thought BlueWorld would dive it! This is hands down one of my favorite cave dive segments yet, and I love that you explored the dry section of the cave as well. So fascinating!!
Thanks Raymond! We had so much fun. The cave itself is really only dangerous in the super deep section. The part we did was not terribly deep (barely more than 100 feet) and spacious. It's just COLD! And going in through the ice adds an element of adventure. We went in the winter because it was more of an adventure to dive through the ice, but we had also heard that the water is clearer. When we arrived, Ina told us that the water is about the same visibility all year around. But it's cold all year around too. It was fun! And I expect to see some cool adventures from your big Hawaii trip!
@@BlueWorldTV so cool! And don’t worry I have some AWESOME Hawaii content coming out
Jonathan and Todd, great video! 💯
So, you have set me another challenge. I am already an Ice Diver. Now after my cave certification, I need to head for the Artic Circle in Norway.... Challenge accepted.
I was surprised that two New England boys couldn't drive better in the snow, though.... 😉
You will note that Todd got the van stuck and I drove the rest of the way. 🤣
Also....please work slowly up to something like Plura. This is an advanced cave dive. I was cave certified for 8 years before I did this dive. And it's a lot easier in the summer!
@BlueWorldTV Absolutely, I am taking the cave diving slowly and methodically. I even need to redo my Ice Diving certs. I have spent years now in the warm southeast. Plura, as well as the crystal caves, are a goal. At my age, I realize I may not get there, but it is a goal to work towards.
The rescue divers were nothing short than heros
This planet brings tears to my eyes. Such beauty. We need to preserve this blue jewel forever.
Amazing episode and major props to Jonathan and team! Norway is such a beautiful country!
I have been to Norway twice and loved it both times. Such a pretty place!
I grabbed an extra blanket while watching. I can't imagine this kind of cold! Thanks for an awesome video, as always.
I really appriciate your suffering/joy of doing this and other cave dives so I can see it! I'm a rec diver for life so no caves for me. Be safe and I hope you can dive until you're 80
Me too!
Today I've been diving in 35'C and I was complaining that it was to hot to put on all the gear standing in hot sun. And now I see this movie, and I don't complain anymore :)
It's actually more pleasant to put on a drysuit when it's cold. I hate getting all sweaty putting on a drysuit when it's hot outside. Then you get into cold water and all that sweat gets clammy.
There is no such thing as bad weather, only improper clothing. Next time Jonathan most probable will have heated undergarmet and maybe also heated undergloves. Those save dives in cold water I know.
I saw a video on that story a while back. I am glad they were able to recover the bodies for the families
Seeing people who are going such places always makes a question of what is the power that pushes them there. Being simply under ice is an advanced skill, but under ice cave is fascinating and twice dangerous at the same time. Congrats, heroes!!
Heyo Jonathan! I've been learning much about sharks, dolphins, and much more thanks to you!! The name's BrennenSnake founder of the soon existing Snake Corporation I look forward to meeting you in person someday
Our contemporary Jacques Cousteau of the underwater world. It’s a pleasure to vicariously explore this realm along your side
That is a very nice compliment.
I used to watch them on sky TV eith mum and never thought while now to put diving expeditions into uou tube search box to see what comes up was the cave a greeny colour like that or was that with your lighte
I really wanna see you guys do more dives with the Dive Talk guys.
Well, we got that coming!
@@BlueWorldTV can't wait!
Beautiful episode guys! Thank you!!!
This is my fav episode yet. And I’ll be watching that doc about those poor divers. I’m sure their families were so grateful for everyone’s commitment to finding those two.
This was a "bucket list" dive for me and one of my favorite episodes to film.
Love to see you guys going for the Plura cave. I have seen the documentary many times and I think its grreat that you are filming the side again. Respect!
That piano music is just hauntingly beautiful. You can feel the danger of the cave where people have died.
Very, very enjoyable and interesting video guys! What an memorable adventure this had to have been.
One of my favorite episodes and adventures of all time!
You have such an amazing excitement for your job, and such passion for our Blue World Jonathan Bird! Thanks for sharing! 😊❣️
Thanks for watching!
I love, love, love your amazing and beautiful videos. Thank you so much for filming your adventures and taking the time to edit, add voice over and post for us to see!! ❤❤
Thanks!!!
Thanx for the beautiful pictures
What an achievement! Very impressive to do this without heating. I didn’t know this was even possible. Great diving team and going to check out the documentary.
Norway is such an incredible place, thank you for the video!
It really is!
It’s crazy, I used to love this channel when I was younger! I still do and check in every once and a while🎉❤
You guys are amazing as always! Thanks for this great show!
Thanks for watching!
I wish you guys would go after fossils again. I remember I was lucky enough to snag a megalodon tooth. Loved the giveaway. Forever my talking piece
Yeah we want to do the spot offshore in NC where they have the BIG ones!
I watch you on epic at school, and your videos are so entertaining I get so distracted when I watch you that I can’t hear anything around me
Super cool. Thank you!
I just wanted to say thank you for making these amazing videos! I usually watch one or two while eating breakfast and they help to start my day off right with good vibes! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching!
Do you know what Jonathan you're the reason why started swimming classes so thank you for inspiring me👍
That is awesome!
Thanks for another awesome video!
This was a fun one to make. Really had a blast.
Always cool to learn and see something new about my own country! And this time it must be said, I think I enjoyed Jonathans pronunciations of locations, more than the diving!
Another amazing episode!
There is no chance I'm ever going to say Steinugleflaget correctly! LOL! I think I should get points for trying.
I love Saturdays and when Jonathan posts..sat down with breakfast and coffee and this video..im not going to lie i was nervous when i read you dived this cave because of the plura tragedy but Jonathan and team are true professionals!❤
You guys are awesome, thanks for the great content 😊
Thanks for watching!
so awesome to see you guys in one of the best caves in the world
Simply Breathtaking episode i have no words!
Truely great show! I love caving, been in the best in WV. And Cenote diving is becoming my favorite! Too old and too poor to do CCR and cave dive certified so it is wonderful watching these dives vicariously. Love you guys keep it up!
Thanks for watching!!
What an adventure ! Congrats for this impressive episode !
Thanks! It was so fun!
Oh gee.. I hate to be cold! You guys are amazing… ❤
A very well done documentation of that cave and what it takes to reach it!! Would be cool to see footage of the deeper section of it too!
Ive heard swveral times of the Plura cave disaster but never realized whwre it was and how COLD the water is
haven't watched the episode yet but heard of this cave from a caving disaster video, a bit nervous but knowing you uploaded it means you survived it, still leaves me a bit nervous watching
Don't worry, we're fine!
2:40 so sad.
Being a believer in comfort (not luxury, just comfort), safety and wide open spaces, I don't think I'd survive this adventure.
Claustrophobia!🥶
Thank you for your courage!
18:17 DAM?!! 😱
This is, by far, one of the most amazing video on internet ever!
Wow, thanks!
Thank you for this video!!! Incredible!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
what beautiful formations!!
I cannot wait for this 😊
Amazing, beautiful and scare at sametime.
Watching your vids is very relaxing
Glad to hear that!
We waiting for you now when the Video is comming we are then ready
That’s a really nice Meg unit your guide has! Great vid as always
It's the JJ

These videos never let us down 😊
I would like to watch this as soon as it comes out but I'm going diving!
Hell I wear a heated vest here in Florida, as my dives inch closer to 3 hours I find myself getting cold on deco. If I went to Plura I would need both a thicker drysuit and a higher end heated vest.
so this episode is my dream, because my biggest dream ( in diving) to dive and swwim in cold water like this.
As usual, nice work, and - again- can't stop thinking about - the great - Bruce Zimmerman's work for the beautiful soundtrack and how it makes me feel like i'm in the dive or throught the whole trip!!!
love you all and wish you a great continuing! Love from Tunisia
Thank you and I'll tell Zimmy!
@@BlueWorldTV thank you ❤️😍
Hi Zimmy here! Thanks so much for your kind words. I love scoring all the Blue World episodes, but this one was special.
Yes! An new cold video! My prayers have been answered😂
such an amazing cinematic masterpiece
Thank you!
Guys the Video is comming then❤
Johnathon and Todd, you two are badass. Super cool, adventure of a lifetime.
Thanks!! We had fun and froze!!
@@BlueWorldTV even in a drysuit that looks so cold
It's so beautiful!
It really is!
Amazing video Jonathan! 👍🏻 there’s No Way I’d Go into that FREEZING 🥶 COLD water! I LOVE Blue 🌎!!! 💙💙💙
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you John for a more relaxing exploration of Plura. Ive done deco diving and studied that whole Jaris saga in much detail. It was all such an epic. Those underwater cliffs at Stein would have been fun to descend. And I really like and respect Sami and Jenny. And Jani too. They're all such Vikings!
They are next level cave divers!!
This is a beautiful cave. I hope to dive there some day!
It really is an awesome cave. It's a bummer that it has such a bad reputation due to the accident. But the deep part is really dangerous. Only a very few serious cold water cave divers have any business in there.
Awesome videos and super beautiful cave. I usually watch and think wow I wish I could do/be there. Not this time though.
Amazing great job great channel
Thank you very much!
These two guys are ones of my heroes. I just worship them.
Watching this while getting full cave certified at Plura cave. Amazing experience! ❤❤❤
You are doing your cave certification at Plura??? WOW! I'm impressed! Are you finnish??? LOL
@@BlueWorldTV Polish 😊 did TDI intro at Molnar Janos in Budapest. Now it’s time for full cave :)
Love your videos!
Sami is badass 👊 such a nice guy to talk with. Awesome instructor also.
Great video, and being inside I’m thinking gives a spooky feeling, knowing what happend and how they recovered their friend 😢👊👊👊
Thanks for this great video. After watching the Diving into the Unknown, Plura cave was a scary site for me! Now watching your fun dives eased the tragedy a bit.
Btw, I did not know KISS sidewinder are certified in Europe and can tolerate such cold dives! Great to know!
They make scrubbers that have syntactic foam insulation if you really want to do long dives in cold water. For a couple hours, the standard scrubber on a sidewinder will last longer than I will. If I had heated undergarments and was prepared to do 4-6 hours in the water, I think you would want the insulated scrubbers.
The Sidewinder isn't CE certified as far as I know yet, but that only limits sales not usage. You just need to buy it outside the EU. XDeep's owner bought KISS and is working on CE certification.
What a cool video!
❤❤ Your videos they're still amazing is what I remember when I was little and they still keep up your great work I really do enjoy your videos even been I was a kid I watched your videos keep up your amazing work❤❤
Thank you so much!
crazy dive. good adventure
Thanks! This dive was on my bucket list.
It's amazing.
Another one lost his life there yesterday. I'm from Norway and I saw it on the news earlier today. His name was Jared Hires, the CEO of Dive Rite. This happened only a couple of days after there was a live streamed concert inside the cave.
Very sad. I heard the news. 😢
Appreciate you guys traveling so far to brave a blizzard, HIGH WINDS 😉 and freezing water in order to bring this cave to life for people like me who will never get to dive it. Its a shame that it has the reputation it does but that just goes to show how much caves like this depend on what happens to the people going in it. And what heroes Sami and that group are, joining a team to illegally retrieve their friends. PS You should never drive in a drysuit that says "DUI" on it!
Oh we really missed an opportunity for a dad joke there!
I really love you ideos they made my childhood
so cool!!!!
Literally!!
I watched that documentary few times. Really moving piece of film. Never thought that you, Jonathan will go there and make a show there. I am glad you did it. What about Orda Cave in Russia> :-)
As soon as Russia opens up again, I would love to dive Orda.
I am so absurdly jealous of your life... Except for that water temperature. I think I'd have to have some kind of hot water circulator in my dry suit. I'm also kinda jealous of the stew after a super cold day outside. That might be one of my favorite things - first few bites of a gumbo/chili/stew after working outside all day in freezing temperature.
That was some good stew! Jani is a good cook!
If you ever get that chance, I would love to see a video diving Lake Minnewanka in Banff, Alberta. It has an old mining town that was flooded in 1912 when a dam was build downstream. It is also nearby Two Jack Lake, where I got my Open Water license! Not much to see there, really silty, but cool nonetheless. Just something to put on the list. In addition, the Canadian Rockies are always a sight to behold.
I love it
These guys crack me up with there "cold" 34 degree diving,,, well I welcome you to winter diving in the upper Midwest. No joke my 10 year old daughter and I ice dive all the time and we don't use dry suites, 8mil with hood and gloves, that's it. But nowhere near as long as they are under, I'd love to dive this place
I've been in 29° F water in Antarctica for 40 minutes. That is nothing compared to 34° F for 2+ hours.
Incredible. Perhaps Boesmansgat next?
LOL! Probably not!
Cold, wet, & cramped, would not have been a good way to go!!! Poor folks who got stuck!!! Anyway, glad you had a good, if chilled, time xxx
Never really wanted too cave diving, but artic diving is something I really want to do, even though I do not have a Scuba licence YET! I will defo go artic dicing one day.
I'm from Cambodia and I love blue world.
its even on epic!
This should be a good story
Very beautiful but to me you guys are superhuman and a different breed. Do you think that the heating suit under the outer suit is effective? How long would it maintain the heat and do you feel it's something that should become more popular and a requirement for diving in freezing temperatures underwater? Excellent video guys 👍🌊🩵🥽
The people who do this kind of diving all the time have very effective heated suits. They require a lot of power, so they have to carry some pretty big battery packs.
@@BlueWorldTV Ah I see how that could be cumbersome perhaps dangerous when maneuvering through different angles. It would be great if some time in the near future a smaller more compact battery pack could be developed. Thanks for your reply 🩷🌸
under ice :O be carefull ! and then u say that story.. consider me on the edge of my seat watching !
Sorry chaps, but Pozo Azul was already nearly 10 km long by 2013 with 3 sumps, and 4 was passed that year.
Its also worth adding the rescue divers you mentioned didn't stop because they thought it was too dangerous they were given quite strict limits by the Norwegian authorities and as the official team, they couldn't break them. Im quite good friends with the rescue controller, who gave up diving after this as he got tired of pulling out bodies. The two official rescue divers were Rick Stanton and John Volanthen, you might recognise their names from another rescue in Thailand so their not ones to give up when it gets a bit grim.
We are aware of the nitty gritty details, but this video is not about telling that story. There was a whole documentary about it. We needed to summarize the back story in about a minute.
