- South Central native Kamasi Washington released one of the most critically-acclaimed albums of the year with The Epic, a three-volume set of genre-bending jazz. The saxophonist and composer leads an eight-piece band for this striking set of live music.

After the whole 13 minutes the musucians were just cool and nodding to each other while I the distant listener on the other hand was shouting "fuuuuuuuck yesssss fuck fuuuuuck!!" and was jumping all around my couch outside th terrace, 3 am in the morning, not giving a damn bout them neighbors.
Gordon Christopher Tubo lol seems legit
+Gordon Christopher Tubo I just saw them a couple of weeks ago in Sacramento, and you could say the audience was metaphorically doing the exact same, ha. And yes, KW and band just smiled and nodded. Incredible live group.
"When time has come, when work is done, and dreams come true, and day is through, we all shall know and see the road, we'll know the way we will run home."
That intro was so beautiful I actually started crying. Bad-ass jam right after too. Kamasi will go down in jazz history.
I felt the same but almost fell out of my chair laughing, it made me soooo happy...it was a sheer joy to witness.
+rick - these are the best moments - i recently was at a little local reggae festival - the last band were so damn good and then the sound was so fat and crisp and on the point, i had goosebumps several times - when i looked around i saw a girl dancing and then showing her friend the goosebumps on her arm - craaaazyyy!!!!
love from germany....
So so very beautiful 🎉
two drummers and it didnt sound cluttered
WELL DONE
A true artist, excuse me, collection of artists.
I have literally never seen a double bass played like that before. Amazing.
Check out my dude Adam Ben Ezra. He's incredible. ua-cam.com/video/0N2UOxkcs8w/v-deo.html
Kamasi is a big fan of the video game “street fighter “. I feel like the melody of this song was influenced by the music from the character “Sagat’s” stage. Amazing!
I listened to Sagat’s theme after reading your comment, and I’ll have to agree. Good ears!
Ah, the pure sense of joy on their faces is simply beautiful....
One thing I hear: He's going about healing jazz, in a sense, by bridging the divide between its traditionalist past and its fusion/hip-hop-influenced present. Wynton keeps the past alive, but at the cost of insisting that most new developments are crap. Electric Miles asserted the present, but at the cost of letting the past die out. Kamasi draws from both "Kind of Blue" and "Bitches' Brew", and does so with warmth and inclusiveness.
That's right.
Hahaha that keys player be CHEEZIN every time the camera's on him. Makes me laugh. Great video, phenomenal performers.
Every time I watch this it gets better and better.
I never heard of Kamasi until yesterday, but its dawned on me just how big this music is. I LOVED that piano/organ thing around the 5 minute mark, and that bass is just astounding I may be wrong, but it looks like the individual musicians are kind to each other and persistently egging each other on to new levels of creativity. The sound is just beautiful
OH FUCK YESSSS!!!!!!!
I don’t understand why this guy did not get airplay 🤔 thank God for UA-cam mr. Washington his trio are phenomenal he is on my playlist on rotation💕😌💯

Nice tremolo with the Nord keyboard.. I hear a lot of Woody Shaw's style here...great Blue Note Modal environment! Great Kamasi!

Kamasi Washington's music has the power to bring back Ray Charles for one last jam.

Kamasi got robbed for not getting nominated for a grammy.
The Community (Us) know it was a masterpiece though. No worries.
Chief Rocka
I don't think Kamasi Washington cares about whether he was nominated for a grammy or not. He knows his music is next level and doesn't need to prove it with an artificial lump metal. Good artists don't see awards as the light at the end of the tunnel.
- - Grammys are bullshit Tho...
man fuck a grammy, they aint shit
Hold on two drummers in pocket communicating with each other beautiful timing nobody is out doing no one all pocket

5:17 The drummer even changes drumheads while playing
Holy shit
Anybody know what kind of sax Kamasi is using in this one?
+Jacob Maranda It looks like a Selmer Mark VI but can't say for certain.
+Cedi Ali Rajah it's a sax sent direct from God!
+Jacob Maranda Second vote for a Mark VI. It doesn't have a high F# key but that wouldn't put a date on it (serial numbers below 100,000 (1963) seem to draw more interest in the marketplace). Looks like a Berg Larsen mouthpiece too - an old skool choice.
It's the only one he's ever played, and it isn't even his own horn - it belongs to his dad. Who is not on this session, but sometimes plays soprano and flute with Kamasi & Co.
damn! makes you wanna kick a chair over or something. LOL!! Fiya!
That was satisfying
Fuck me! Well that's modern jazz then isn't it ? Brilliant!
2:53 Ronald Bruner being naughty
