I've had SL's for 14 years, and I've loved every minute of it. My hair has never been so strong, healthy and long, long, long! The last time I cut it I took about 12-14 inches off and had layers cut, and there's no end to what you can do with it. They're versatile and I roll, twist-out, braid-out, set, wear up, down, and everything in between.
I locked my hair within the first year of being a nurse because I was tired of using my weekends to wash de tangled deep condition my hair so often. I wanted to take my time back for myself so I can use it to actually live. I did not want to be a slave to my own hair but I also want to wear my natural hair. I am on my fourth set of locks and I’m on microlocs and I did them myself. Locks no matter what form they are in are such a great investment in yourself.
Love this video. I used Queen Eleem as one of my inspirations along with T'Kyra Ann, Keshia1390, and KeKe J! I am a Nurse Practitioner and in the Military and both colleagues, medical staff and patients love my hair! #locdandlovingit
So you are the reason I decided to do my own , I followed your earlier videos. So thank you for that! I was on the fence for year due to the cost and length of my hair. I am also a health care professional as a pharmacist and have no issues with "professional appearance". This has been the best decision of my life for my hair and the freedom of not having to do my hair for hourrrrssss every other day makes me so happy! My hair is ALWAYS cute is such a nice feeling lol
I’ve been Sisterlocked for 2 years and it’s been the best decision that I’ve ever made hairwise. I was nervous in the beginning, and the beginning stages were tough for me, but I pushed through and I’m so proud that I did. I love my SLs so much. I’ve never felt so beautiful. This was a great video. Thank you!
You ladies did so good with this video. It’s all heart. Sharing your experience and your love for who we are as a people, brought me to tears. I know dramatic. But if you’ve ever felt less beautiful because of your hair, you know what this all means. Our hair is beautiful In It’s natural form. 🌹🌹🌹
I've really enjoyed watching your lock journey. I've had sisterlocks for 2 1/2 years, and and I absolutely love microlocs/sisterlocks. Even if you don't install yourself, I think it is wise to know how to maintain yourself. Lockdown was a powerful lesson for so many of us (not to be 100% dependent on a consultant). I don't see myself returning to relaxers (although I enjoyed that phase of my life). I am so happy to show up in my professional setting taking up space wearing my natural hair proudly. Old subscriber on my personal channel, new subscriber on my creator channel. Great video!
Great video from start to finish. I was smiling throughout. You always deliver when it comes to content Elizabeth! I've followed you for a while on here (Browneyed) and on IG, but I just recently started this channel with my daughter. I did a post on my IG about this, but I'll go into detail here. To buttress your point about how important Justice Ketanji's appointment is, my 19 year olf niece is pre-law and has been putting off getting tiny locs becuase she was convinced that not conforming to the Eurocentric standard of beauty would limit her in her career (fun fact - her mum has had Sisterlocks for 7 years now and two of her aunts have Microlocs/Sisterlocks). The day Justice Ketanji was confirmed she DMed me to say - "CRAZY how I ever hesitated or thought twice about getting locs." I was moved beyond words. Just by being and showing up as her authentic self, Justice Ketanji has started an entire movement and I'm here for it!
The term “Dreadlocks” is not what many African Americans think it is. It is a beautiful history of defiance against colonialism and fighting against tyranny.
@@ShelbySteele23 because we are using modern day understanding to apply to something before our time. We do not look at it in context nor research. Dreadlocks in the 20th century, is the foundation upon which the Rastafarian movement, originating in Jamaica, was established. It is a way of life that includes a deep connection to Jah (God) with deep respect for Haile Salassie I, the emperor of Ethiopia who was able to stave off white colonisers. Because to many of us, it is a hairstyle we do not do the research and instead buy into the fallacy that some white man called them dreads because they were dreadful. Once again, allowing oppressors to rewrite OUR story.
@@Elle79 I appreciate your explanation but it doesn't clarify if the dread in dreadlocks derives from the word dreadful? If so, it needs to be changed along with a lot of other words that we use with negative historical context. Black hair is unique and beautiful in all of its forms, especially locks and that should be honored and celebrated, not "dreaded". Just because something started out a certain way doesn't mean we have to accept or keep. And it is absolutely ok for us to reject things/words that offend us even if we don't know the full history.
I have been locked going on 8 years now. This is the best decision I ever made for me. I am a microbiologist and I have never had a problem with professionalism and hair. I feel so proud as a black woman to see SCOTUS Ketanji in the SC. Thanks for this lovely video my beautiful black queens.
I love this so much! I’m getting mine but I don’t think I can start them on my own 😢I’m not the best at parting lol both if your locs are beautiful! Can’t wait to start my journey
I'm still micro twisted after 2 years now and love all your updates. While mine are not microlocs people always think they are so I can relate to how others react to it and being a nurse in a clinical setting. This is great video and hopefully more people will consider micro locing or twisting. Great job on Ms Pierre's hair too, you guys are super pretty.
Love this video & both of you have beautiful hair!! I started my locs in 2020 using tips from your videos & they have completely changed my lifestyle. I’m about to start a career in pharmacy & I love that I can maintain my own natural hair on my schedule & have it be seen as a professional style. Thanks for your videos 💕
I'm so nervous, but I'm going to start this month. I know it may take time, but I know I can do it. I'm watching the videos, getting the tool suggestions, and the book. Thank you ladies, so much, for the confidence, and setting an example. See you on the other side 🥂 ~ Keona
Shalum my beautiful young sistah! I love that you two did this video it's time that our sistahs come to a full understanding about our beauty as well as our culture. We as a people are so lost to our true identity and this happens due to slavery and all the lies that was told to us about our hair. I've been locked for 2 years now I love my sister's loc they're beautiful. Thanks for doing this video my prayers are that more of my beautiful sistahs can start loving themselves. Love ❤️ the video!!!!
Excellent video ladies!! I love my microlocs so much for all of the reasons you mentioned. Now that I Retighten every 4 weeks instead of 6 and beyond, I love it even more because it always looks done and I get finished faster. It's a beautiful hairstyle. ❤❤
Love this video! Thank You Ladies for making this honest videos. I would love it if you ladies (if time permits) would do something like History of Black hair. I've been doing research on Black hair Pre-Slavery....OMG! Black hair is AWESOME! (Just thought I would toss this out to you ladies) You ladies play well off each other....!
You both have beautiful locs. I was wondering Elizabeth, when you were installing your hair, what did you do with your hair when it wasn't yet completed, how did you go out and about?

Excellent presentation ladies! I just shared this video with my daughter and granddaughter, who are both loose naturals, to explain that this video is so very encouraging for women of color everywhere, young and old, and all ages in between! I truly enjoyed you both, you did an excellent job presenting our side, our culture, our story! There is no shame in our being who God made us to be! So proud of you two!God bless you both.
aww this was such a cute video. I recently found you on insta and decided to come check out your channel for inspo. I cut my hair off a few months ago because I got tired of spending hundreds on knotless braids, and I just don't have the interest in spending so much time and effort on the upkeep of natural hair at the moment. LOL. As I grow my hair out this time, I think this hair journey will be microlocs. thanks for your great videos!
Girl they told me $6K-$7,500 for microlocs or sisterlocks on my 28in hair...long story short I cut my hair in 2022, into a very low taper, and just got my locs established 10.02.23...it was $1400 for 11-13in hair
!!!!!! That’s insane.I want to do a price comparison video. Could you dm or email me the name of the place the quoted you so I can use their pricing structure? And what city are you in???
Asalamu alaikum! Beautiful! I am seriously considering starting this journey. Can you please make a video of what your head looks like with a hijab on? I know it’s a weird request, but I’m thinking of installing these in before the baby comes in about 3 months! I believe I have the same hair type as you and I’m a hijabi. I’m worried how big my hair will get and if I would still be about to properly cover. Thank you 💕
