"Don't worry, I'm not gonna listen to this again. So my opinion is not gonna change" lol One thing I love about your videos, man you're always cracking me up
What a frustrating album. There are definitely some things that I like here & glimpses of vintage Rocky, but I feel like he over-complicated things a bit. Ah well, maybe next time for me. How'd you guys like this one?
Luke James I was underwhelmed for sure. Nothing wrong with messing with fashion hard like he does, but it clearly gets in the way of his creative process for his music. Purity is great. The haunting singing on Fukk Sleep by Twigs is dope. Songs that I thought were pretty good I feel could’ve been a lot better if him and the features put in a little more effort.
"You can do experiment and different, but make the shit dope" exactly how i felt about this project , big fish theory is a great example of how to do something with a different vibe, not this.
I really liked this album. I’m not a big A$AP fan but between this and the last Cozy Tape my interest level is high. I loved the production on this and the guest features were awesome.
I did enjoy the album a fair bit, but thought "CALLDROPS" was absolute trash. Kodak's fuzzy, bored delivery got to be so grating on the ears. Anything Kodak touches gets completely ruined. Example: "iSpy" by KYLE. It had a Kodak Black remix that sucked, while the original, while you can hate it, was at least more enjoyable with a Yachty feature.
Jeeses99 I agree 100% his flow is what I love about the guy like it's damn near perfect and his delivery too but it just was on this album at all like there wasn't that charismatic rocky but there are some good songs
Say what you want about Rocky but all of his solo albums have a certain aesthetic and I feel like this album especially is hit or miss with people based on if they like that aesthetic. The beat switches might be too much for some people but I actually thought they were put together well. His flows are dope af too. Not sure how I would rank it against his other albums yet but I'm loving it. Props to Rocky for trying something new, even if it isn't for everybody.
I get where you're coming from. I appreciate him taking chances here, I just think the execution was messy. I agree with you though - gonna be very hit and miss!
Pretty much nailed it. This project was extremely messy and incohesive, and I feel like a lot of people are just going to excuse it because it’s “supposed to be that way”. I understand what he was going for with the whole “Testing” theme but you can’t just use that as an excuse if the project is a mess
I love the production so much that I almost don’t even need to pay attention to rocky. I like most of his flows and some song topics too. That being said on tracks like OG Beeper and Buck Shots his lyrics were really lazy. The bars is what this project lacked in and it hurt it a TON once you started paying attention to what he’s actually saying. Also Distorted Records was such a disappointment for me after I heard the teaser for it. The bass could’ve knocked soooo much harder. Still good though in my opinion.
He can do so much better. Everyone knows he has talent... I don't know why he doesn't do a complete ode to boom bap or collaborate an album with clams again.
Rocky last album was solid. I’m not gonna drink the “oh it’s diverse” kool aid. The focus is lacking even in the good songs. It’s no point to making experimental music if you execute it poorly with generic rapping.
This album was bad and Rocky is my favorite artist of this era. I hate the fact that Rocky's style now is kind of one dimensional as he tries to make a lot of his tracks sound just like 3-6 Mafia. He used to incorporate a lot of different sounds from coasts on his previous work like Live.Love.A$AP. Gunz N Butter is the only song I kinda like.
L.A.B. Since Carti started fucking with A$AP the music started going downhill hell after Yams passed they turned to shit, I mean he saved Choppa but Cozy Tapes was just terrible. A$AP Mob fucking Rocky needs to get his shit together.
I’m so glad this was a rant review. I listened to the previews of each song on iTunes and I couldn’t stop smfh. I was hella disappointed since rocky is one of my favorite rappers. Especially since I waited 3 fuckin years for this dude to drop an album. Smh
His last album was incredible to me but it took me 6 months to actually enjoy it i don't know if this will hit me later down the line but as of now i think this shit is hot garbage. I like when artists experiment with the music more so on the production side of things but you have to be able to keep my attention with your raps and this definitely didn't, the title is the perfect fit for this album it just sounds like he's testing a bunch of material that isn't fleshed out and ultimately ends up as wasted potential. There are good moments on this album i like 3 songs but neither of them i can say i like in it's entirety however that frank ocean verse was the best verse on this entire album. This album is easily my biggest disappointment of the year.
Honestly, even though i love this album, I can see why people would say why they thought this album was 'straight dumpster juice' or 'trash'. But hey an opinion is an opinion.
To be honest listening to A$AP's music is always chore unfortunately. Now while their are some songs that are okay at best it's mostly been beat production that's decent. But the lyrics are pretty much Migo standard in a nutshell "one dimensional". The first album was alright but I don't visit it much but pre that I did like Peso though. The second album was trying to be too experimental that it ended up becoming boring/terrible as hell. And now this album just sounds like the second one but more worst and sloppier. Overall I liked Rocky in the beginning but as the years went by I find myself disinterested despite curiosity on the albums he released. Other than this great review Luke keep up the great work!
I liked the production,I just felt like he wasn't really rapping that much..like the verses were very boring..but of course since it's "experimental" people are going to praise it regardless..
Ok so I have no idea wtf happened, but on my 3rd listen me and this album just clicked out of nowhere. This imo is way better than the last A$AP Rocky album ALLA. That was literally a 0/5 for me, this one is a 3.5/5! Liked it way more than I thought I would!
Hunter Magill ever heard of opinions? Different sounds sound good to different peoples ears. Whatever ALLA was didn't sound good to me. Idc if it was better than Testing, I still like Testing better.
I agree fully on this. I’m a big Rocky fan and I was really looking forward to this but this is so mediocre. The beats aren’t bad imo, they just don’t fit with what he’s saying and it’s all over the place. The hooks on this aren’t good either. I liked Distorted Records, A$AP Forever, Tony Tone, Buck Shots...everything else is either cool or bad.
On my 4th listen in kind of clicked for me. But I'm still spectacle if I actually like it, 4/10, gotta listen again. Its gonna be the next Yeezus in a few years
Pulled my way through the album and dude sounded uninterested in his own music. Probably surrounded by A$AP Yes Men, how'd did he get the green light on this..
I have the same feeling as you; the experimentation throughout doesn't come together as a whole, the lyrics are more misses than hits I never realized how much of a mediocre lyricist Rocky is till the other day Favs: Purity but mostly for Frank Praise the Lord, A$AP Forever tho I think kid cudi's verse had nothing to do with rockys, black tux grew on me and distorted records (despite that bad line)
Just feel like it’s not focused on a particular sound. Each of his past efforts have at least been cohesive in sound. As you said, the production makes the project better than it is. Tony tone, distorted records and Purity are some of the only good tracks. CANT BELIEVE HE FUCKING MESSED WITH LAURYN HILLS VOICE WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT
Idk man, I liked it quite a bit actually. And I get the complaints, but this album gets me with its weirdness (production choices mostly). Those adlibs all over it can get a little much but they're mostly enhance the sound he's going for. A light 7 from me, upsetting how nobody liked it but whatever really. I agree that this Kodak track is awful though, the kind of track you want to unhear.
I give it 4/5, just like pusha's album. It definitely grew on me, and I used to think it sounded like a mess, but now I find it a really enjoyable listen that keeps me hooked all the way through. I do admit that his rapping is some of the worst rapping I've ever heard, like the line you mentioned, and "my biggest distraction is being distracted". But the production was amazing enough to me, to distract from the lyrics. The vocals layered over each other on Gunz & Butter was brilliant to me, and Hun43rd was my favorite track. I loved FKA Twigs feature on Fukk Sleep, and I seem to be the only person who likes french montana's feature
I'm so disappointed with his rapping on here. I feel like it was a huge step back. Almost like he just doesn't care anymore. Some people seem to be down with his experimentation though so that's cool!
This album was great can people just shut the fuck up with this demand for deep lyrics, they don't always matter and song or album can be great without them. Just take Die Lit that album was fantastic even though it wasn't lyrically complex, its like how a metal album can be good even if they sing about all the usual shit.
I think it’s fair for people to appreciate bars. It’s not even so much about wanting extremely deep content here, but just better rhyming in general. He was so damn lazy on this. I also think Die Lit is one of the worst albums of the year though so we just have different tastes!
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna listen to this again. So my opinion is not gonna change" lol One thing I love about your videos, man you're always cracking me up
SirMeatwad lmao right
What a frustrating album. There are definitely some things that I like here & glimpses of vintage Rocky, but I feel like he over-complicated things a bit. Ah well, maybe next time for me. How'd you guys like this one?

Luke James I really enjoyed it
I say this is version of "Indicud" . It's very experimental & he's taking risks. But some of the songs didn't pay off for me.
Well this project could've went either way. Personally i really liked it after 3 listens even tho at first i didn't know how i felt about it
Indicud is an iconic record. This will take many more listens
"You can do experiment and different, but make the shit dope" exactly how i felt about this project , big fish theory is a great example of how to do something with a different vibe, not this.
0:53 DAMN LMFAOO, i’m definitely using that to describe some shit i don’t like
Oh my god that was the ultimate roast
Aqarius Jay LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
I really liked this album. I’m not a big A$AP fan but between this and the last Cozy Tape my interest level is high. I loved the production on this and the guest features were awesome.
I went the opposite direction. I think his first 3 solo projects are pretty damn good, but then the Cozy Tapes and this didn't do much for me.
Luke James I’ll have to go back and listen to his previous work. Don’t know why I never listened.
@@Target_Buster yeah bro his first two albums were really really good
Live love ASAP the mixtape is like an essential hip hop record now lol
I honestly don't think his heart is in music anymore.
Definitely didn't sound like it on this project. Just wasn't rapping with the same conviction he used to.
I did enjoy the album a fair bit, but thought "CALLDROPS" was absolute trash. Kodak's fuzzy, bored delivery got to be so grating on the ears. Anything Kodak touches gets completely ruined. Example: "iSpy" by KYLE. It had a Kodak Black remix that sucked, while the original, while you can hate it, was at least more enjoyable with a Yachty feature.
the king james of reviews
I like the production but rocky didn't really get my attention at all he kinda sounded bored
For real! That's the exact lack of focus that I was talking about so I'm with you. Most of the verses were all over the place & felt half-assed.
Jeeses99 I agree 100% his flow is what I love about the guy like it's damn near perfect and his delivery too but it just was on this album at all like there wasn't that charismatic rocky but there are some good songs
When I heard that "turd stains" line I was like yup.... That's my q
Haven't listened a second further into the album since
lol it has some good moments after that, but not much that I'd rave about!
He should change the name of this album to "testing my patience"
But what if there's songs you like after that line?
Say what you want about Rocky but all of his solo albums have a certain aesthetic and I feel like this album especially is hit or miss with people based on if they like that aesthetic. The beat switches might be too much for some people but I actually thought they were put together well. His flows are dope af too. Exactly!
I don't know how to feel about this one. This album is a hot mess, I hope ASAP can get it together on his next project.
Hopefully it isn't another 3-4 year wait...
I love the production so much that I almost don’t even need to pay attention to rocky. I like most of his flows and some song topics too. That being said on tracks like OG Beeper and Buck Shots his lyrics were really lazy. Also Distorted Records was such a disappointment for me after I heard the teaser for it. The bass could’ve knocked soooo much harder. Still good though in my opinion.
Personally I like it and I think itll grow on people as time goes on. Not his best lyrically for sure. Loved the instrumentals though
Yeah, some of the beats were on point for sure, but if he could've brought better verses it would've made a huge difference for me!
He can do so much better. Everyone knows he has talent... I don't know why he doesn't do a complete ode to boom bap or collaborate an album with clams again.

L.A.B.
Since Carti started fucking with A$AP the music started going downhill hell after Yams passed they turned to shit, I mean he saved Choppa but Cozy Tapes was just terrible.
A$AP Mob fucking Rocky needs to get his shit together.
Looooollllll “ phoned in from jail” 😂😂
I’m so glad this was a rant review. I listened to the previews of each song on iTunes and I couldn’t stop smfh. I was hella disappointed since rocky is one of my favorite rappers. Especially since I waited 3 fuckin years for this dude to drop an album. Smh
I thought it'd be a quick rant but once I started I couldn't stop hahaha!
His last album was incredible to me but it took me 6 months to actually enjoy it i don't know if this will hit me later down the line but as of now i think this shit is hot garbage. I dug it. It’s not as focused as I’d like, but there’s enough stuff I enjoyed on it to make me want to go back to it.
Honestly, even though i love this album, I can see why people would say why they thought this album was 'straight dumpster juice' or 'trash'. But hey an opinion is an opinion.
I love it when you rant dude lol
Biggest disappointment from a big name rapper since 4YEO
BlameTyrone 4YEO?
Torstein G 4 Your Eyez Only, J. Cole album
I guess you skipped Eminem's album Revival last year.
ramps4squirrels Forgot about that album lmao
"My chain, my pants. My pants with the chain".
This album is alright. I keep coming back from time to time 7/10.
I agree with everything you said tbh
I think the production is what keeps me going back. Tony tone goes hard though.
Dont know how you mess up a track with lauryn hill and frank ocean but he did
so sad...
Did you review A$AP TyY's mixtape ? Troubles Of The World
Yeah 2.5 for me 😞
with more focus it would be amazing. he's also riffing on frank's blonde too much
To be honest listening to A$AP's music is always chore unfortunately. Now while their are some songs that are okay at best it's mostly been beat production that's decent. I gave it extra chances to see if it would click but every time it just felt like a drag to listen to lol I'm glad some people are enjoying it though!
Luke James honestly I was just so disappointed with his last album that nothing he did would be worse than that A.L.L.A album.
Mo Naqvi You're buggin, Rocky snaps on that album. And it's better than testing, facts only.
Hunter Magill ever heard of opinions? Different sounds sound good to different peoples ears. Whatever ALLA was didn't sound good to me. Idc if it was better than Testing, I still like Testing better.
same, there's so many different things going on in the songs that I catch something new everytime, they're kinda psychedelic
That "turd stains" bar is Revival-levels of trash. Man this album is a mixed bag, which sucks cuz I really wanted to like it
It was incredible
On my 4th listen in kind of clicked for me. But I'm still spectacle if I actually like it, 4/10, gotta listen again. Its gonna be the next Yeezus in a few years
Pulled my way through the album and dude sounded uninterested in his own music. Probably surrounded by A$AP Yes Men, how'd did he get the green light on this..
For real. He has a couple of decent moments, but on a lot of tracks it sounds like rapping is a chore to him.
Rocky raps like he don’t be giving a fuck 🤦🏽♂️
NIGGA I WAS EATING FOOD!
I have the same feeling as you; the experimentation throughout doesn't come together as a whole, the lyrics are more misses than hits I never realized how much of a mediocre lyricist Rocky is till the other day
Favs: Purity but mostly for Frank
Praise the Lord, A$AP Forever tho I think kid cudi's verse had nothing to do with rockys, black tux grew on me and distorted records (despite that bad line)
I wish T.I. got more to do on A$ap Forever remix. I was really excited for him.
one bad line and all of a sudden its 'more misses than hits'
Go Gators!!!
Luke is too fuckin funny 😂😂😂
Miss the old rocky. Fergs album was a lot better from last year.
Just feel like it’s not focused on a particular sound. Each of his past efforts have at least been cohesive in sound. As you said, the production makes the project better than it is. Tony tone, distorted records and Purity are some of the only good tracks. CANT BELIEVE HE FUCKING MESSED WITH LAURYN HILLS VOICE WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT
It was too experimental, I see why he name the album “testing”. And the production was good tho
awful album. but it'd be cool if he dropped this as an experimental mixtape/throw away project
Nah, you know what: it's a decent 6.
I couldn't get through it...

Rockets about to fuck it all up
Warriors are hitting EVERYTHING right now!
Sliders activated.
I damn near made my own review just so I could talk about that turd stains line.
Not as good as his last three projects. At.Long.Last.A$AP is underrated. Great album.
This album was great can people just shut the fuck up with this demand for deep lyrics, they don't always matter and song or album can be great without them. Just take Die Lit that album was fantastic even though it wasn't lyrically complex, its like how a metal album can be good even if they sing about all the usual shit.

I only liked 2 songs Buck shot and asap forever
I was really looking forward to this album but I really struggled to get through it, just awful, Very disappointing.
Whatever you do just tell me why lmaooo
Nosap Rocky
I like the last few songs on the album , but yeah it is really poor
Extra thick dumpster juice 😂
Dumpster juice
this album is underwhelming asfffffffff
I thought so too! I don't think there will be much of a grey area with this one.
Yeah I’m not rocking with this album the lines are just to bad/ cringe
Honestly this is one of the worst albums ive ever heard.
