These guys were smoking hot! Loved this when I first saw it on video and still love it today! I missed 5 years of drum corps in the 90’s ‘92-‘97. Would loved to have seen this live.
One of my favorite DCI memories over the last 32 years of following was the convening of the snare line at time mark 7:40 or so to move into the feature. The grove, the hands, and passion in the feet, the intensity of presentation of that line coming forward to show their stuff. That was a performance moment for the ages. Kudos for being a part of that historical line!
Saw these guys take down Cavies and, IIRC, Phantom at Massillon, OH. I was fortunate enough to catch them walking from a rehearsal to the truck before the show and a couple of snares were just casually chopping away while walking. The sound, the look, the playing, the book, the intensity - this line had it ALL at the same time. ‘92 was one of THOSE seasons where everything in DCI came together, before it all became the WGI Broadway show of the last 15-20 years. Pure magic. Thank you for posting this. I’m glad I got to experience it.
Just as I thought, the DCI finals recordings were junk. They were WAY cleaner on the field than the dual mic setup was recording. Which is a shame because I thought the finals run was muddy when it was just bad sound techs not knowing how to blend mics. Thanks for uploading this.
It’s a damn shame. So many great drumlines sound awful. 1993 and 1999 are especially horrendous. There’s a video somewhere I saw of the 1993 final performance of Cadets of Bergen County from the press box and they’re clean as a whistle.
@@Paiste2002Fan To be fair, in the 90s there was no budget for DCI so they were lucky to have any quality recordings at all. The 92, 95, 96 and 99 audio was horrible.
Thanks for posting this. The Crossmen shows from the 90's were my favorites and this one especially. Great writing and execution the whole way through.
One of my all time favorite shows EVER! I got to watch the corps rehearsals several days while the corps was preparing for a show in Pittsburgh, PA. After watching the rehearsals, it made me want to join a corps! I marched with the Golden Lancers in 1995-1996-1997, auditioned and made the Cavies in 1998, but was unable to accept a spot, due to not having enough money for tour fees...
1992 was my first year marching drum corps (Magic of Orlando snare line). My high school drumlime captain, James McKey was in Xmen's front ensemble. This was my fave show all summer, HANDS DOWN, Esp bottom bass during the percussion feature. THUMP-THUMP, THUMP-THUMP.
The chops on this snare line is and was unbelievable!!!!! I think the rest of the snare line had to drop their snares down a bit to somewhat match up to the snare player on the end since he is so short. Lol So I’m thinking the rest of the line had to raise their chops. And boy did it enhance the snare line chops. I think this was the beginning of how lines have become playing really high sticking now. Between 88 and 2000,s it was more about having very low sticking with only high accents and rim shots. These guys in crossman 92 did not follow those sticking heights. They rammed everything out which made them stand out from the rest. This drum line is in my top 3 of all times!!!
You can play The Rainforest at my funeral please. I need to actually listen to the bass line. I’ve always focused on the snares but fuck that 5 might be the greatest in DCI history.
"Whoa, this is really intense!" Yeah, man, that's the truth. ^_^ Fantastic job, Bones. _Crossmen soprano '87-'89_ _BCG Dad 2014 - 2015_ _"When all else is gone...."_

Proud Alumni, 91 to 93 certainly inspired me....stellar lines and killer people.
The disposition of those egg beaters is phenomenal
Just DAMN....... I can throw quarters between a lot of these beats!

I couldn't agree more, Chad! Thanks for your kind words. The was the favorite summer of our youth I think.
Mr T’s writing coming out of the solo is otherworldly
I marched Cadets that summer and had the privilege of listening to you guys all summer (from backfield). One hell of a show!
Thanks Mike....we always enjoyed checking you guys out. There were a lot of notes coming from over your side of the parking lot!
Thanks for the kind words Mike. You guys kicked ass too!

Well said!! I was there too!❤❤❤
@ChristopherT1 Thanks! I was a HS kid and that line and those drums just rocked that night. I was so stoked to see that show live.

This was a magical season and show! Yes, 30 years later and it still gets me. Goosebumps, shivers, tears.. so fun to watch y'all that year! 💜🤘🔥
Amen.
Love the meaty characteristic battery sounds on these judges tapes....yall killed it this year!!!
Thank you!
The bass drum 5 part heard 'round the world

Thanks! I feel lucky to have marched when I did for sure.
@@bryantukmusic You were part of a great corps. I play drums even the horn section chokes me up still today. Kudos man!

That's awesome to hear. Participating in the marching activity at any level last long lasting positive effects.
art of Groove tasty writing full of colors and tonality that I think is missing in today's corps/lines now
Agreed!
Very nice all around. Being a drum guy, the DL was super!!!
Thanks! Much appreciated.
Thanks for posting this Brian.
Or Bryan😀

Dilbert McSwain Thanks man. It was a summer to remember for sure.
Still one of my most favorite shows ever.

At 8:46 you can hear the judge ruin his shorts
7:40, that's what you're all here for.
quality of sound has been what i strived for even after boots
So, so good. They don’t make them like this anymore. Was taught by Mark Smith and Jason Powell a few years later. Legends!
Legends yes! Still in contact with both Jason and Mark regularly. Good peeps!
One of my favorite lines of all time!
8:25 is about the right spot :)
