For those who are wondering what is going on here. It’s a Kyudo/archery competition held in Kyoto in the middle of January every year. This video only shows the young girls’ competition who has turned/will be 20 this year or “new adults”, but other people of different categories are also competing in the same day. Since this tournament is held around the coming-of-age day for new adults, they wear traditional kimono and hakama to celebrate. These girls are mostly Kyudo club members of colleges around Kansai area.
They are so beautiful and I just wish you showed more of the archery. I love the stepping forward in a line in those lovely Kimonos and then drawing of the bows.

成人式は、一生に一度きりの事。家族も観に来てくれて、とても良い経験になりました。成人式って、親に「こんなに大きくなりました」って見てもらう場でもあるのかなぁと。
女性に限らず、男性の弓を引く姿はとても凛々しくて、かっこいいです。

華やかで凛として清らかで麗しくて・・。素晴らしい行事。
いつしか髪を派手に染める女性も少なくなったような・・

高校時代弓道部だったけどその時は弓道の美しさはみじんも感じなかったが、こうしてみると随分と美しいものだ。
