Thank you! As a 68 year old attempting dressmaking for the first time and joining an evening class for beginners I decided to get a head start on drafting a sleeve. Being a size UK 20 it is amazing how many patterns don't cover this size range, and each bought commercial pattern differs even in that size. After seeing your tutorial today I have had the confidence to draught up a sleeve to take to class on Wednesday. You are never too old to learn!
I just found you today and I have to report to my school (I am a teacher) tomorrow...I wish I found you 12 weeks ago! To think of all the things I could've made!! Thank you for your very precise explanations on how to draft without commercial patterns. I will send your link to my sewing friends and I will definitely sew lots (as a way to decompress from all the school stress). Thank you for renewing my interest in sewing again!!
Hello again. Yes ! An in depth video with YOUR particular style of instruction would be just the ticket. I find that, when following video tutorials, if the instructor speaks as though s/he is teaching beginners, it's a much smoother process for me. Otherwise, I typically must refer to several other videos in order to get clarification on all the terms and techniques used in the video I'm originally following !! Sheesh ! So, yes, PLEASE do a tutorial about sewing with knits !?Also, if you'd do one showing some of your BEST, most PRACTICAL, time saving tips and tricks about finishing garments so that they have a more professional appearance - I would be your GREATEST CHEERLEADER ! 👏🏾🎉
Hi, i have a tutorial for sewing the knit tshirt here - ua-cam.com/video/hGGTWfYKeAs/v-deo.html and a custom pattern drafting here - ua-cam.com/video/06AGrFD6fjc/v-deo.html thank you for the comment... :-)
This looks so simple to follow I cant wait to have a try . Im a uk 26 and really struggle to find patterns that fit. Please can you give me any different measurements I might need. Thank you so much youve made sewing look simple .. simply love it :)
Hi izzy!thanks alot for the great tutorial, most especially the sleeve part but my question is,the 7.25inches line you drew ,you did not state if it is your armhole measurement or not but i just guessed that is armhole measurement.then i noticed on that line you did not state if we should add seam allowance or not. Also lastly, how do we know which is the back or front sleeve.thanks
Hello Ms. Izzy. Thank you so much for this video. Your instructions are clear, concise, and pleasantly spoken. I'm a new sewist (should I use that term ?) and I love jerseys, knits and the like. Would you please perform a tutorial with tips on the best, easiest ways to work with stretch fabrics ? Also, what content ratio (for instance 80% cotton 20% rayon) should I look for for a more substantial, knit material ? I do my ordering online and, without benefit of having handled the material before purchasing, I find most to be either too flimsy, or they wrinkle too easily. Lastly, should I purchase a fit mannequin ? Thank you and keep it coming !
Sorry . I don't understand how u got the measurements for the arm hole on the paper. This is like a refresher course somehow i cant figure out. I stop sewing 8 yrd ago and losing knowledge. Tx for yr reply. .anyway great vids : )
Hi Izzy - I just came across your video and first I want to say thank you. I have a question on the paper size - I could not make out what size paper you stated in video to use - can you please list the size paper you used for the sleeve? Evelyn
evelearntosew thank you for the comment. well paper size is not really important in this case. measure your hip and divide with 4, then take your paper width 2 inches extra, so if your hip is 40, divide by 4 is 10, you will take 12 inch wide paper and the length you need.. hope this helps.. but will keep it in mind to mention the paper size in future tutorials
i am really interested in this video but your audio is really bad, i was barely hearing.... i have a question, hoping you would reply... how do I measure a cowl neck top from my basic top pattern, step by step?... your reply would be highly appreciated. please show in another video... thank you,
Junaid Muhammad I am sorry your question will take a reply that is too long for this comment... this is why I have shown it on video, try listening with both right and left audio...thanks
hi thank you for the suggestion... I will do a classic shirt at some point... it takes many months of planning and hours of editing... so it wont be any time soon :-)
By the way, I created a nice top (using a favorite, old t-shirt that I feel particularly sexy in) using this video. Mustard colored, lightweight ponte. I added little side slits and a chest pocket. Beautiful, if I must say so...

Macik, I think she took her shoulder to collar measurement and divided in in half. Please correct me if I'm wrong...
Beth Cole do you mean the neck depth? I am not sure I understand the question...
