Talent just means how much benefit do you get per unit time worked. If two people work for 100 hours, one will get more out of it, meaning they're more talented.
I strongly disagree with this definition. Different people work differently. 2 hours for one person might be as productive as 5 hours for someone else. This seems to be a function of experience, not talent.
@@mookz34 Another possible problem with the definition is that talent is usually assumed to be very strongly dependent of potential, and though the benefit you receive per unit time worked in a certain way almost certainly strongly correlates with how strong you're capable of becoming if you keep the same work, and the benefit you receive working the best possible ways for your conditions per unit of time must also correlate with your ideal potential peak, they are also almost certainly not identical.

I cannot understand why there was so much misunderstanding of what Dubov said the first time. Of course, Fabiano is one of the best players in the world, and his talent is exceptional, but if you take the 10 best players in the world, the individual characteristics that make you the best player are bound to be different, hence having somewhat of a ranking system. Two of the best players cannot have exactly the same talent, so I totally get that Fabiano in that aspect may be the "least" talented in the top 10. She is very confident and doesn't back down against anyone. That's what I observed from her conversations. She is an objective attacker and similarly has a rounded personality to carry her confidence without going crazy.
Absolutely not. If he meant intuition, he would have said "intuition." Russian has this term, and it means exactly the same as it does in English. This entire discussion about "talent" arose because, even though the translation is correct, the word "talent" is used differently in Russian compared to English. Dubov even tried to clarify what he meant in the original source, but it seems that for someone who isn’t Russian, it’s hard to grasp the difference. In Russian, "talent" refers to something entirely exclusive, associated with an innate creativity that cannot be achieved through any amount of training or practice. Intuition, on the other hand, is almost the opposite, as intuition improves over time-the more you learn and practice, the better your intuition becomes.
not really. Talent is simply "better understanding". And it can be for literally anything. And it exists for sure. My explanation of this is that people tend to do stuff better that they like. And as a kid when you like something more your brain works on that and develops a long lasting better understanding. For example some people like games more than others. And when playing games their brain puts more effort in it than others because you are enjoying it. And if you do it as a kid you would be better than everyone else. Some people lile doing maths. And they somehow can pick up clues in a question that others will overlook. Its because their brain gets the satisfaction and wants to do better. And as they have been doing it since childhood, their brain has programmed for it better.
Of you have talent your knowledge of the game leads to good intuition. I think there is a reason he mentions physical fitness. Because the system needs be greased and if there is relaxation en flow, then the system gives the best result. How good these results are with the same amount of input as knowledge and training that probably is talent...
Love hearing C² views. I've been working up my appreciation and love of chess, having grown up more from the Musk side of things thinking of the simple (i.e. finite) aspect of the game. So chess was not my first love, but I'm loving learning about the people behind it. What my first love was, however, and continues to be has been reverse engineering meaning, and in particular, how our brains work. I can tell you that Dubov - and more sadly IMO Fabi - is absolutely wrong in believing they cannot attain Magnus' level. I feel especially Fabi, with his demeanor, with a better understanding of meta analysis could attain it and more within a couple years. In the meantime, I love Christian's influence on him and their complimentary qualities make this a great podcast.
This was filmed prior to Dubov's first visit to NY City. His demeanour here starkly contrasts his jittery/agitated behaviour during his interview with Levy at World Rapid & Blitz. Hopefully he's back off the "chocolates"
Just realized that Daniil Dubov missed to qualify in the knockouts of World Blitz Championship 2024 because he chose not to play Hans Niemann... What a DUBious move by DUBOV
This isn’t milking. This is simply a conversation about the chess world on a chess podcast. Hikaru and Levy are the goat milkers, taking every little thing that Magnus does and making 25 min UA-cam video about it. This conversation is about Dubov and a big part of his career was working with Magnus, so obviously they’re going to discuss it

of course, it's not fully physical. I played Vishy a few years ago, and he was a beast. On the other hand, 50 yeas old winning 9 round tournaments not easy
29:42 Interesting you should mention Novak Djokovic. He appears to be on a steep decline compared to his past sustained top level. It's been happening ever since he caught something during the 2024 Australian Open - something he refused to get a test for. If you search the medical literature, that unmentionable thing can affect every organ in the body, including the brain. It'll be interesting to see if he manages to turn his form around at the 2025 Australian Open - the odds are going to increasingly against him, hence his recent vocal output about doping in sport. We saw the same happen to Ding, and possibly Magnus too of late.
Only Fabi would have the class to invite the guy who cast doubt on his talent in chess. Many others would have a meltdown. instead we get an interesting discussion.

One positive that comes out of awareness of mental health is people treat depression more seriously. Depression is badly named because it's more accurate to say Demotivation. Depression implies sadness, but more and more, people know depression means lack of motivation (severe) to do anything.

If the playingstyl reflects personality.... then the attacking player Judith Polagr must be crazy.
She is very confident and doesn't back down against anyone. That's what I observed from her conversations. She is an objective attacker and similarly has a rounded personality to carry her confidence without going crazy.
@knowthefundamentals3774 the point was to show that she is not crazy. But her chess is crazy attacks.
@@Monika77fulThere is better word for it - optimistic.
I think what Dubov thinks is talent is intuition
Dumbov has lots of feelings, but few understandings.
Make one example from this video
Need him on post "sleep gambit" though- maybe unlikely to get anything else for interesting than his interview with levy
This was filmed prior to Dubov's first visit to NY City. His demeanour here starkly contrasts his jittery/agitated behaviour during his interview with Levy at World Rapid & Blitz. Hopefully he's back off the "chocolates"
Really?
Just realized that Daniil Dubov missed to qualify in the knockouts of World Blitz Championship 2024 because he chose not to play Hans Niemann... What a DUBious move by DUBOV
Haters (0.01% of chess fans) will say now caruana is milking magnus.
Of course he is. As a content creator, he'd be an utter idiot not to "milk the GOAT". The dumbdumbs are the ones who think that's inherently bad.
@@kattee1956he simply doesn’t need to
This isn’t milking. This is simply a conversation about the chess world on a chess podcast. Hikaru and Levy are the goat milkers, taking every little thing that Magnus does and making 25 min UA-cam video about it. This conversation is about Dubov and a big part of his career was working with Magnus, so obviously they’re going to discuss it
@@kattee1956 fabi doesn't need magnus he himself has an independent fanbase

Meanwhile magnus playing blitz on his wedding night😂

Fabulous was a breath away from being world champ. He has all the tools needed.
Does anyone have any idea of who the player they think was cheating - the one Dubov said didn’t lose a game for a year?
of course, it's not fully physical. I played Vishy a few years ago, and he was a beast. On the other hand, 50 yeas old winning 9 round tournaments not easy
Generally a good podcast
29:42 Interesting you should mention Novak Djokovic. He appears to be on a steep decline compared to his past sustained top level. It's been happening ever since he caught something during the 2024 Australian Open - something he refused to get a test for. If you search the medical literature, that unmentionable thing can affect every organ in the body, including the brain. It'll be interesting to see if he manages to turn his form around at the 2025 Australian Open - the odds are going to increasingly against him, hence his recent vocal output about doping in sport. We saw the same happen to Ding, and possibly Magnus too of late.
Dubov has a child?!?!?! Why is it so unexpected for me....
Only Fabi would have the class to invite the guy who cast doubt on his talent in chess. Many others would have a meltdown. instead we get an interesting discussion.
A better man than me
@@andrewroberts8139 Better than most of us.
Not others only hikaru
may I remind you that the said "doubt" was meant as a compliment towards the efforts and Fabi understood that
@kieslowski1709 It's what we call a backhanded compliment.
Vishy timestamp please?
i am from India but dubov is my favorite player of modern times and my all time favorite player is Tal . I like these players who are creative and shows us the real beauty of chess rather than boring therotical draws.
And also insinuate that Gukesh win was a match fixing by his tweets. Think again
@@arkzbh that was Ian nepo not dubov.

You being from India has no relation who your favorite player is. There is a difference that your support someone from your country and who your favorite player
Dubov is the OG crazy online cheating accuser. For Fabi to agree with him is NUTS! He accused Hikaru back in the Magnus Chess Tour in 2021, and I see still doesnt let it go. "Its not like I accused anyone of anything" oh but he did. 1:11:30 for next few minutes after
No way its rajdabov
@@afterneet4421it's Hikaru. Dubov said that he started to be suspicious in the 2020 Magnus Chess Invitational Grand Final, which he lost to Hikaru
Dubov is naturally so funny
1:25:02 Vladimir talked about results of clash of claims/blaims: 1) the performance of a plyer in online and OTB chess are not that different(as also proved by Naroditski at world blitz championship) 2) Although Jospem did prove he is a decent blitz player, his game quality was much better in Tilted tuesdays, than in those matches
Different time controls?🤔
@@ahmedalabry5970 3+1 online is basically 3+2 OTB
@@Justamag1cif they re the same why Kramnik categorically refused to play with 1 second increment and required 2 seconds making the things more useless than already was (and the match was half OTB and half on the computer so your point is moot anyway).
well, if I play at home in known circumstances I also play better than somewhere where I have to prove I'm not cheating. No wonder there the general quality is better at home
Off topic question, who is the one who replies to comments?
no I wonder which name they had in mind (not losing a game for a year?)
One positive that comes out of awareness of mental health is people treat depression more seriously. Depression is badly named because it's more accurate to say Demotivation. Depression implies sadness, but more and more, people know depression means lack of motivation (severe) to do anything.
1:24:00 Kramnik is the hero of chess? Why are top players complaining about him then?
Dubov hinting at calcification a bit
Talent for hard work, talent for novel lines and instinctive chess. Ultimately who wins consistently is what matters. Fabiano has got all of that and could be Number 1.
dubov could be top 10 also. but objectively for fabi it is much more difficult to gain 30 points than dubov.
fabi and christian actually invited Dubov in this podcast because they are okay. You should stop wasting time trying to find non existent drama..
What player are they talking about who they suspect cheating because they didn’t lose for a year?
I'm not trying to complain or whine but don't you think him being world champion is more important than him being a second to carlsen? This sounds absurd.
