I prefer this the steps are better modern stuff is almost the same step aldo you h asve abandoned complicated dances like Rodneys Glory asnd Killkenny Races and Blackthorn aand blue bired. Modern dance same few stepsl little ankle rocks , legs out snd in the air. Adults better in black tights. Modern stuff not great im afraid.
i've had this program on video for 20 years. was my niece's fav when she was 10, her favorite was Aoife Clarke. :-) so much has changed and so much hasn't, and i'm glad to see irish dancing is more popular than ever.
I feel you. I started Irish dance when I was 23 and though I've gotten way further than I ever imagined I would (I'm 33 now) I do sometimes wish I started earlier. Especially when at the smaller competitions, you dance in an 'Over 18' or 'Over 25' category and the group either consists of rather young adults (which usually outperform you) or the group is just huge...
You're never 2 old 2 start or 2 return!!! My dance teacher started much later than every1 I've ever heard of & still made it 2 World's. Even if u don't want 2 compete though, as long as u enjoy it, do it!!!
Whenever I watch Irish dancing or Scottish dancing it makes me think about my family ground. It is good to see boys and men wearing kilts. It shows great pride, love and respect. I am very proud of my family Irish and family Scottish. It brings me joy to my soul.
Seeing this after returning from worlds this year, wow Irish dancing has changed. I used to go with my mom every year for worlds (never qualified in solos myself) and now I know where the memory of the practice room with the checkerboard flooring came from. I remember going there for lucozade and sausage and chips. I also believe that there were bumper cars outside, and a pool
Hoiux look up festival style Irish dance, I think it is mainly carried out in Ulster. It’s a lot more traditional with no wigs or solo dresses, however it’s not as old fashioned as this!!😂
Am I the only one who doesn’t think it changed that much? Maybe I’m just crazy. Cuz I watch recent world videos a lot and I think the only things that have changed are the costumes and the difficulty of the steps.
Truly miss this. No fake tans, no big wigs, no ugly dresses, no moves a la seconde, just Irish dancing at it's best. It's no longer attractive to watch, it's like Toddlers and Tiaras with choppy ungraceful footwork, now.
Proper dancing. None of the ridiculous white tape on the hard shoes or poms. Real Irish dance costumes that are distinctive. Today's girls dresses are over the top. The odd one is nice but some are just hidious.
@@scoutz0rs I think its to make the feet look a certain way. But I think it looks ridiculous. The organization I am a part of doesnt allow it thank god.
Taryn DeCicco I’m glad to hear they don’t allow it! It makes dancers feet look so huge and boxy! If you don’t like how hardshoes look, why do Irish dance? I just don’t get it.
MY CLASSMATE IRISH LEVEL DID STEP DANCE WEARING HIS KILT HIS RED CROSS SERVICE KILT WITH A BUTTON SHIRT HE ALSO WORE HIS RED CROSS SERVICE PLAID HE NEVER WORE THE TIE HE HATED TIES THEY GAVE HIS ASTHMA TROUBLE
People most commonly mean step dance when they say "Irish dance", but it's technically an umbrella term, of which step dance is only one type. Other types include Sean-nos, festival, ceili, and set.
My mom wanted to put me in Irish dance because of the wigs and at the time, semi glitz dresses. I am not at all Irish and thank god my dad told her hell no
it's so cool to see how much dance has changed
ya and stayed the same in other ways
Wow I do Irish dancing and it is quite different to what they do and also what they wear

Nice kilt suits. Great Irish dancing too. Keep up the great work, I am very proud of this video.
What a throwback! Thanks so much for sharing.
I love Aoife Clarke’s dress. I always loved having dramatic cuffs on my solo dress.
I could kick myself in the head for not having found Irish Dancing when I was young. Such a beautiful way of dancing!

BTW, if u get good enough u will kick yourself in the head lol 😉

I love that Reel Around the Sun is their presentation music!
This so funny to watch now. Dance has changed so much since then and it hasn’t even been that long
I miss irish dancing like this.
speaking about irish dancing do you remember one of the boogie beebies segments it features irish dancing too 4 girls and 1 boy
Look how far Irish dancing has come 😮you wouldn't believe it !!
+Laila Mcbride its amazing to see in my opinion
It was better then to much skipping and shuffling in todays .
I love this !!!!!
I wish Irish dancing was still like this. Not as competitive and as money orientated as what it is now.

@@gracexx2383 I agree Festival dancing is close to this style in the video. It's lovely. I think it is expanding outside Ulster now.
2019 anyone
nope
My favorite dance Kilkenny Races.
One of the best Irish dance videos I've seen. Real Irish culture the costumes are fantastic This is better dancing than To days.
20:28 a guy nearly got kicked in the face
Hence the reason why competitors should dance on separate stages.
Am I the only one who doesn’t think it changed that much? Maybe I’m just crazy. Cuz I watch recent world videos a lot and I think the only things that have changed are the costumes and the difficulty of the steps.
Carly Martin true. Also I’m literally in prizewinner so I know nothing lol.
Carly Martin omg thank you so much. 🙂
The steps were more difficult back then. Today it's skipping all the difficult dances are dropped Kilkenny Races, Blackbirds.
Wow irish dance is WAY more competitive now!
Ok thanks

I wish we could go back to the simpler dresses.
Rita Vlogs i agree...some of the dresses are really beautiful... but some have too much detail and are rather distracting to look at.
The older style ones are soo uncomfortable as well
Look up festival style Irish dance
I just wear a black leotard with a black skirt and I have won first place with it! I see a lot more people sticking with all black.
Haha Mark I've probably watched this about 10 times 😂😅 @
Casey O'Loughlin Academy of Irish Dance

Oh I HATE the white tape. Where on earth did that come from???

I hate the wigs
Michael Flatly changed Irish dancing.

Yeehaw!!! :-)

+Heather Doyle they are kilts and they dont any more
Woah the boy said step dancing
It's Irish Dancing he should get it right
I thought he was Irish dancer 😒
it's Irish step dancing so he was right. :)

It’s always been called step dancing. When I was little back in the 50’s it was step dancing.
My mom wanted to put me in Irish dance because of the wigs and at the time, semi glitz dresses. I am not at all Irish and thank god my dad told her hell no
James was not very good
