You produce the sound by forcing air between the reed and the mouthpiece. It isn't a matter of blowing hard. It is more about finding the right amount of pressure to put on the reed and the right amount of lung pressure needed to maintain a steady tone. Blow no harder than you need to. Blowing harder will raise the volume and is extremely useful for shaping a song dynamically, but start out learning to play as softly as possible. You will develop better control that way.
