Very true! Just becasue an instrument is small, doesn't mean that it's a toy. An ukulele is also small, but there are some very good professional players.
I've played tenor sax for 20+ years. I could make it sound like garbage, or make it sound amazing. Xaphoon is no different. Its all about how the instrument is played. I think the xaphoon has a unique awesome tone. And much more convenient to carry.

I play mine with a Legere synthetic reed and am able to coach pretty good expression out of it. Nice to not have to gum around with a wooden reed when you're taking the instrument around and playing casually.

It’s not a flute, it’s a reed instrument similar to a clarinet or a saxophone. Flutes sound at the first harmonic (an octave up) while reeds sound at the fundamental (what you hear here), so a similar length flute and a similar length reed instrument will have a range that’s about an octave apart.
The guy with the cap felt he had to get up close, because was filming with his smart phone. I've seen people get up in front of the audience and film a live performance with a full-size i-Pad. Talk about blocking people's view! Unfortunately, it's not illegal.
I bought a bamboo xaphoon Maui in B bemolle 2 months ago but there is something that I do wrong because it requires toooooo much area and my cheeks explode, and the sound isn't always stable. I'm looking at this girl and I notice that she is being calm and relaxed while playing. Where are my mistakes? 😭😭😭😭
Probably you are not putting your top teeth firmly on the top of the mouthpiece. If you do not bite the yop of the mouthpiece, your lower lip cannot apply the correct pressure on the reed. If the reed is too open, you will use too much air. Also, without the teeth on top, the lip opressure will be unstable. Xaphoon is the opposite of recorder (block flute) which does not use the teeth. Xaphoon, you MUST use your teeth. BTW, are you from Iceland?
@@UkuleleMania1 I put my upper teeth firmly on the mouthpiece and my lower teeth covered with my lower lip on the reed, but nevertheless it takes me much air. Apart from that there's a leak of air because I cannot close my mouth completely because of the thick mouthpiece. I come from Belarus still my name is writtten in an Icelandic manner 😊

@@dsbirdi1313 Well, that means you have a real one, not a cheap copy. The reed it needs is a tenor sax reed. Hardness of 2 1/2 is best. I hope you have the instruction booklet. If not, there are some instructional videos online. Happy Xaphooning!
It is a real Xaphoon®. There is only one brand of Xaphoon®. Actually, Xaphoon® IS the brand name, it is not a generic word. Therefore, it should be written with a capital letter. And the name should not be used to refer to cheap Asian copies. Because the copies are not Xaphoons®.

The range is two chromatic octaves. The lowest note is middle C on the piano. Some players can get the B below middle C by note bending.
