That looked spot on. Actually I used to work just over the road from there, and that restaurant used to be an Italian cafe/restaurant I used to go to a lot. Can't wait to get there sometime and give Dave's a go!
I had Dave's Hot Chicken and I had medium spicy slider and tender with slice of white bread. With the sides of crinkly chips and pickled gherkins. Wash down with a refillable soft drinks. The chips are crunchy and soft inside. The pickle compliment the fried chicken. The chicken is perfectly cooked crunchy coating and moist inside with the medium spicy dips. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Dave's Hot Chicken.
Indeed you got lucky today my friend. I've never been to this franchise before as I didn't know they were in Toronto but apparently they are. Glad you enjoyed your meal I will check it out in that future. All the best Greeno. Doug 🇨🇦
It was good quality for fast food - especially compared to some of the other US stuff that I have tried recently (I'm looking at you Wendy's, Denny's and ShakeShack!!)
What you’re enjoying is called Nashville Hot Chicken. It started in popularity about 8 years ago and is taking hold pretty much everywhere. It is typically served with untoasted white bread and a little extra sauce over top. Good video Greeno. Cheers.
Nashville hot chicken as it's known now (with the oily spiced paste as the coating etc.) dates as far back as the 70s. And there is evidence a version of it started sometimes in the 30s actually. Popularity wise, it got popular back in the 80s when the number of restaurants serving it grew fairly rapidly. And by rapidly, I mean from 1 place or 2 places doing it, to like 9 lol by 2015 I think 2 dozen were only serving Nashville hot chicken. For a city the size of Nashville that sounds small, but considering how popular it is around the US now, yeah sounds about right. And the fact it's so popular over the last 20 years or so that it's spreading all over the world says a lot.
Hi Greeno, it all looked good for the price. Pity about the slaw, but at least you got a drink.. for free? Or in place of slaw? Either way, so glad you got warmer inside. Please bring GaryEats back to review the Level7 spiced chicken. 😂😊 Best to family!

I must say the chicken and crinkle chips looked really nice, I wouldn't mind going there myself - not sure I would want to queue though. I still think Hattie Bs is a better version, but that's also because they have more menu options available and not just tenders either. I also think Hattie B's clucking hot is hotter than Dave's hottest, and since I'm a chili head, that sort of counts for me. I will say Dave's (last time I ate there) was cheaper than Hattie Bs though. However, considering how quickly Dave's has become popular, they obviously have the special sauce (or oil I guess lol).

We have a Daves Hot Chicken here in Sunnyvale California and its our Takeaway on Friday treat every now and then (competes with Pizza day). Its pretty good and worth it!
@@GreenoEats Much better than most of the brands here in the US ! Fast food is only as good as the people you hire, I would think that is where quality of product can sometimes go awry.
Hi Greeno Looked okay , I do like fast food chicken , However that Tender on and then sort of in a single slice of Bread seemed kind of strange to me , I would have chucked that I think (the slice of Hovis White I mean lol ). Do you think they had also run out of the Baps that really should have been in ?
It will be interesting to see if they make it in London. We have literally hundreds and hundreds of chicken shops from independents to global brands. Looks nice but i wouldn't make an effort to go there.
Finally someone has worked out how to do KFC but with quality. Food looked good. I really liked the way the youngsters behind you could pull up stools and sit around the table and chat and stuff. Great for mental wellbeing and things like that... 👍
KFC used to be quality, in fact back in my day (late 70s early 80s) KFC was considered one of the higher end fast food chains lol the quality of the chicken alone back then was top stuff for the kind of place it is. And I feel the chicken was cooked better back then (even though it's basically cooked the same way now, something is just different) and of course, it really was finger lickin good.
Hiya Greeno, a New Year another fried chicken joint🐔🍗🤔Just what London needs. Now got to be said. I'm quite happy to to chow down on a bag, box or even a bucket of deep fried fowl. Back to my youth, being a young lad, as a trainee chef I was introduced to food from different cultures and quisines. Chicken Maryland. New way with chicken. Fried banana, corn fritters, rolls of crisp streaky bacon. At least this ones not named after a State of America. Plus points. Being new it's big, bright, brash, vibrant & funky. Seemingly serving good quality food. Central London, the prices are reasonable. And watching how quickly it filled up, already popular. However, I'm worried about the business plan for another 60 outlets. When you can't offer a full menu at opening time 🤔🤔😱 in your "Flagship" establishment. Think Mary Rose. In this financial situation and the outlook for the future. Huge investments, and a fast journey to bankruptcy. I truly wish them all the best, bravery should be rewarded. I'll watch with a keen eye. Catch you in the next video. Cheers Allan&Family
I remember seeing Chicken Maryland on menus, but never trying it - the idea of chicken and banana just did not appeal! I do hope these guys are successful - they will have to be careful though if they expand too quickly... need to keep an eye on that quality and consistency!
It might be the end of him! The drink wasn't part of that meal deal I ordered - but they threw one in as compensation for the inconvenience of the missing menu items.
As you know, fast food does nothing for me but considering where this is located the prices are really reasonable. Even crazy when you consider just how did they arrive at '£9.08' ? - I was even thinking that VAT would be added on but that is also included. So, it seems, that they are working on volume and, again, given the location there will always be a steady stream of customers.
@@GreenoEats I'll tell you this, while I'm pretty sure their reaper option has actual reaper in it, it's no where near as hot as an actual reaper. As a chili head, I can tell you it's no where near as hot as eating an actual reaper, or a sauce using reaper or extract in it. If it was - that waiver might be more important than it actually is lol
Very impressive.I have never been to one but after seeing your review I will if I get the chance, good chicken a fair price and choice of sauces sure beats KFC!😊
Looks ok Greeno ! Little bit pricey for chicken n chips IMO. Like your jacket, can you advise on brand and where you got it please ? Cheers , Daz, Leicester. *Edit* , found the jacket info, TOG24 👍
Chicken is virtually the only meat I eat these days, in its varying forms. That did look nice and moist and moreish, strange bread thing going on though, maybe it's to catch any juices and be ate separately? Hopefully, like you said, they get one in Bournemouth! May try the 5th or possibly the 6th spicey sauce, doubt my old heart would take the reaper anymore? In fact I know it wouldn't!!
That all looked quite nice . . UK burgers look dry . Not a lot of sauces . . ?? . . . Im looking at trying Popeyes in Auckland this week . . I do love pickles lol And yee that chicken in bread looked yummm . . Take care . 👍👋NZ🇳🇿🍻twa
Another of my old haunts! Used to work on Shaftesbury Avenue. That place was OK, not quite my thing but I doubt I'm there target audience either lol! For location and quality price was fine although I'm not having that plain slice of white bread nonsense!
(336) Well, at least they don't over-do the amount of sides. They obviously make a guesstimate amount and when they run out, they run out. Glad you had a good experience (for a change!!!). Thanks for the upload, Greeno. If a place doesn't look busy, I just blow it off.
I was only the 3rd customer of the day haha - if they have run out of sides at that point there's a problem!! (I think they simply hadn't had their deliveries in in time)
Can’t beat good chicken! 😋 Hope this is good…🤞 Ha ha! 😂 If you have to sign a waiver then you know it’s not messing about - probably past enjoyable!! 🥵 I’d pay the money these days - especially for quality - bargain! 👍
The chips/fries sounded crispy. I could hear the crunch of the chicken coating. I do find the sliced bread without butter or toasted a bit strange though with a huge crunchy chicken breast. 'Please Sir can I have some more?' 'MORE?!!!!!!' you greedy boy! It was a shame there wasn't any slaw or Mac 'n' Cheese though. 👍
The bread thing is weird, but apparently that's just how it's done (I googled it!) - this was really good as fast food goes though Denise, really enjoyable!
Ouch...59p for one slice of processed cheese seems a bit fierce😳 For the next Greeno Food Awards, what about adding a Best Fast Food Experience category? 😘
That looked great. You're not going to believe this, but back in say 1972 in Perth, Kentucky Fried Chicken would have been close to that quality but not spicy. I don't know what happened to those guys.
That looked better than the average USA fast food chain outlet. The hottest sauce probably has Carolina Reaper chilli as part of the mix, since a CR is rated at over 2 million scovilles in heat i would definately avoid it even if it has been heavily diluted with other chillies.Good review and if any open here in Australia i might give them a try,4.5 from 5
Looked nice, however, the first few places of a chain are usually really good but the more that are added the quality seems to go down. Case in point here in Ireland, Eddie Rocketts. There was only one Eddie Rocketts in 1989 and it was fantastic, a 50s style diner type place. Now there are over 40 of them and quality is very questionable now and crazy expensive for what you get. Hopefully this chain doesn't go downhill as more are added.
I must say I think perhaps they should not be open till they have the components of their sliders, if the Kaleslaw was a side dish then I would be okay with that, but as it is supposed to be on the slider, then personally I am not okay with that. Here they sell cauliflower sliders, and tenders, the meal plate you had is $10:99 here so just about the same price, they just seem to have a 2 tender option, not a single one as you had. They are opening one 10 minutes from me on 16th January so I will try it later in the month. I’m not sure they should do that single slice of bread in the UK seemed to be very controversial, and I suspect it might be that way in a lot of America, as it’s only a Nashville way of doing things, I bet if they do dip the chicken in hot oil, they probably don’t expect you to eat the bread, just a sort of sponge to absorb the oil.
I think it was probably a delivery coming in late - after I finished my meal I saw fresh chicken being delivered to the restaurant, maybe that was part of a bigger delivery - can happen in London traffic I guess!!
Well, I'd have thought Five Guys - though I absolutely loved Wendy's. Wish there were more of them. Could do with a lot less McD's, KFC or Burger King.
Hi folks - a little late to the party today as I have just got back home from filming - I hope you enjoy the video!

@@GreenoEats ....I'm sure I watched one of Gary's vlogs were he took on a Phaal curry so can't see why he wouldn't want to do a funny Reaper challenge with you 👍
We have a Daves Hot Chicken here in Sunnyvale California and its our Takeaway on Friday treat every now and then (competes with Pizza day). Its pretty good and worth it!
I thought it was great value for good quality fast food - much better than many of the other US brands over here now!
@@GreenoEats Much better than most of the brands here in the US ! Fast food is only as good as the people you hire, I would think that is where quality of product can sometimes go awry.
Looks good Greeno. I'm quite fond of chicken on the bone but it did look good. I'd be interested to see what the reaper sauce is like:)
We will find out about the Reaper Sauce one day :-)
Hi Greeno Looked okay , I do like fast food chicken , However that Tender on and then sort of in a single slice of Bread seemed kind of strange to me , I would have chucked that I think (the slice of Hovis White I mean lol ). Do you think they had also run out of the Baps that really should have been in ?
Apparently that is the way Nashville Hot Chicken is traditionally served. Seems a bit strange to me too!
Might have a go if it's anywhere near me love hot chicken ma pal cheers 👍🏻😁
Worth a try if they open up in a town near you!!
It will be interesting to see if they make it in London. We have literally hundreds and hundreds of chicken shops from independents to global brands. Looks nice but i wouldn't make an effort to go there.
I think it's as good as any "fast food" chicken I have had - they have a chance!!
Finally someone has worked out how to do KFC but with quality. Food looked good. I really liked the way the youngsters behind you could pull up stools and sit around the table and chat and stuff. Great for mental wellbeing and things like that... 👍
Amazing to see youngsters out, socialising and enjoying food - I thought that scene was dying!!
Poor wee battery chickens…
Not my thing, glad you liked it. Onwards!
Was decent as fast food goes :-)
I do hope these guys are successful - they will have to be careful though if they expand too quickly... need to keep an eye on that quality and consistency!
looks amazing
Looks like all rest tbh doesnt float my boat
For fast food it was really very good!
That's fair enough - we all have our likes and dislikes don't we, that's what makes life interesting!
Take Gary and get him the Reaper 😂
Doesn’t a meal come with a drink?
It might be the end of him!
The drink wasn't part of that meal deal I ordered - but they threw one in as compensation for the inconvenience of the missing menu items.
Looks good, but the one slice of white bread is a real head scratcher..
Chip butty for those in the know
Now why didn't I think of a chip butty - you've just hit the nail on the head there!!!
Brilliant review Greeno, very reasonably priced to be fair for central London 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Mike, and as you say, pretty reasonably priced for that part of town!
Hey Greeno, it looked like nice chicken & chips but what was with that 1 piece of bread with the chicken?
It was very good. The chicken tender on a slice of bread confused me a touch too, but apparently that's how it's done!!
I used to love Oliver!!!❤😊
Not actually seen it myself, but I know the story of course!
I do wonder if they made a deduction for the cost of the missing slaw, and threw the drink in as an additional compensation?
How about a Reaper challenge with Gary 😂
you honestly think I could get him to agree to that?? haha
@GreenoEats probably not but would be funny 😂
@@GreenoEats How about Tim for a challenge ?
How about a mushroom challenge with Gary
@@GreenoEats I'll tell you this, while I'm pretty sure their reaper option has actual reaper in it, it's no where near as hot as an actual reaper. As a chili head, I can tell you it's no where near as hot as eating an actual reaper, or a sauce using reaper or extract in it. If it was - that waiver might be more important than it actually is lol
To be fair that looked nice ❤
For fast food it really was!
Very impressive.I have never been to one but after seeing your review I will if I get the chance, good chicken a fair price and choice of sauces sure beats KFC!😊
Yes - if their expansion plans go ahead then I expect they will have one in most major towns and cities before long!
Looks ok Greeno ! Little bit pricey for chicken n chips IMO. Like your jacket, can you advise on brand and where you got it please ? Cheers , Daz, Leicester. *Edit* , found the jacket info, TOG24 👍
That’s right, TOG24… not everything I own is North Face 🙂
Chicken is virtually the only meat I eat these days, in its varying forms. That did look nice and moist and moreish, strange bread thing going on though, maybe it's to catch any juices and be ate separately? Hopefully, like you said, they get one in Bournemouth! May try the 5th or possibly the 6th spicey sauce, doubt my old heart would take the reaper anymore? In fact I know it wouldn't!!
Haha - my kids were saying I should have tried the reaper sauce - I think they're hoping for the life insurance to kick in!!
Winner, winner etc.....! 🐔
Indeed mate!
Tasty looking chicken.
It was indeed Kian!!
The best American chicken biscuit is Bojangles, which is mainly in the American south. Their 'bo-rounds' tater tots are very yummy!
None of them over this side of the pond sadly!
@@megmcguigan3857 I've made biscuits and gravy from scratch in UK. Not difficult but quite a heavy dish. I want to make a horse shoe sandwich next.
@@GreenoEats If you ever go to the US you have to try them.
Looked OK but hardly any fast food outlets in my area provide for gluten intolerant 😩👍❤️🏴
That would likely be a problem here too - everything in a coating and served in or on bread.
Looks the real deal to me bro, 10/10 please open in North Wales.
It was very good Nigel!
Fair score Greeno but defo go back 👍
You want me to do the spice level where I have to sign the waiver?
It's funny because I've never heard of Dave's hot chicken!!❤😊
They're fairly new
love the north face rucksack - sponsorship soon
Haha - if they haven't got the hint by now they never will!!
Looks delish, but Greeno, I am too old and often to hungry to stand in a line for food 😂😂😂😂😂
Luckily I was there about 15 mins before their opening time, so I was close to the front of that queue Jessi!!
@GreenoEats Green(o) stands for luck 🙂
I thought you were in your 40s Jessi? 😊
@theabandonedhunter3604 I am, Smithy, close to 46 😀
@ not old at all, what you talking about! I’m in the 40 club too 😂
That all looked quite nice . . UK burgers look dry . Not a lot of sauces . . ?? . .
. Im looking at trying Popeyes in Auckland this week . .
I do love pickles lol
And yee that chicken in bread looked yummm . .
Take care . 👍👋NZ🇳🇿🍻twa
I'm still yet to try Popeyes - I wil have to get there sometime. Let me know how you find it if you go there :-)
@GreenoEats well . . I will like it . . Youl try it and it will be crap . Lol . Thats our form isnt it ? 🤣
Another of my old haunts! Used to work on Shaftesbury Avenue. That place was OK, not quite my thing but I doubt I'm there target audience either lol! For location and quality price was fine although I'm not having that plain slice of white bread nonsense!
Apparently that is how it's done in the States - I just couldn't work out how to eat it!!
(I think they simply hadn't had their deliveries in in time)
Hi Greeno food looked delicious. Looks better than KFC.
Definitely a step up on your standard KFC - and not any more expensive to my mind.
Can’t beat good chicken! 😋 Hope this is good…🤞
Ha ha! 😂 If you have to sign a waiver then you know it’s not messing about - probably past enjoyable!! 🥵
I’d pay the money these days - especially for quality - bargain! 👍
I think this was very good value. And you've seen enough of my videos now Sharon to know, I will go back for that Reaper at some point :-0
@ I have a feeling you will - make sure you post it 😉
The chips/fries sounded crispy.
I agree with your score, funny that it's an American chain since I haven't seen one in NYC yet!
Apparently there are 7 in New York! 4 in Brooklyn and 3 in Manhatten!!
@@GreenoEats Thank you Greeno, I'll look for one!
@@jglasernycJust about (16th January ) to open one in Fresh Meadows Queens.
@@GreenoEats I looked them up, unfortunately they are not close to me. If I'm near one I'll give it a go (to borrow a phrase from Gary Eats!)
Is Trigger the Managing Director?
Haha, nice one Smithy!! Chambourcy Nouveau!!
Ouch...59p for one slice of processed cheese seems a bit fierce😳 For the next Greeno Food Awards, what about adding a Best Fast Food Experience category? 😘
Not a bad idea!!
That looked great. You're not going to believe this, but back in say 1972 in Perth, Kentucky Fried Chicken would have been close to that quality but not spicy. I don't know what happened to those guys.
KFC has in my opinion gone way downhill in recent year, but their prices have rocketed!
That looked better than the average USA fast food chain outlet. The hottest sauce probably has Carolina Reaper chilli as part of the mix, since a CR is rated at over 2 million scovilles in heat i would definately avoid it even if it has been heavily diluted with other chillies.Good review and if any open here in Australia i might give them a try,4.5 from 5
Come on Paul - you know enough about me by now - I will definitely go back to try the Reaper one at some point haha!!
I like the diversity of your restaurant choices Greeno.
Thanks Kathryn - I do like to mix it up!
I guess the "flagship" one gets all the corporate attention, then they start to franchise out, and quality dips.
@@GreenoEats Unfortunately true, would be nice if this one keeps up the quality, it looked really tasty.
I like Five Guys. My one experience of Wendys was trash!
