The final verse was added for the Brits, and he really put a lot into it criticising our government. In particular, the young guy he was talking about towards the end was Jack Merritt, a volunteer working with prison inmates (including Dave's brother), who was killed along with one of his colleages (Saskia Jones) by one of their programme participants in a terrorist attack. He also referred to the 'Grenfell victims' in relation to the Grenfell high-rise tower block which went on fire in 2017 killing 72 people. There were huge issues around negligence and poor responses from emergency services, and many of the people made homeless by the fire were still struggling to find accommodation many years later. Finally, the 'Windrush generation' is a shameful episode in British history. After the Second World War, the British Government made a huge drive to encourge immigration from across the Commonwealth, in particular from Caribbean countries. Thousand of people answered the call (one of the ships that brought them to the UK was called the Windrush), and filled positions as manual workers, nurses and many other roles, and broke new ground in creating a diverse British society, often facing horrific bigotry to do so. The government failed to keep, and provide accurate records of these immigrants, but promised them that they would be free to stay as British citizens. Then in 2012 the government started to demand offical papers from these people, to prove they had a right to be here. People who had lived here for years, at the government's request, providing vital services. They even started deporting some of them. It was a horrific abuse of power and dignity, and should never have happened. Props to Dave for keeping those issues alive. The video display on top of the piano was really impressive. It was all very carefully co-ordinated by computers, with the projected image tracking the camera moves, to accurately pick up the 3D effects.
