Jack Merrit lost his life with Saskia Jones in the london bridge terror attacks. He was heavily involved in black justice and had helped Daves brother, which is where the connection between Jack and Daves family came from
Jack helped people from prison rehabilitate and start a new life etc after prison. @@telmack7838 just to add onto what you said for the guys in the video - Jack championed rehabilitating people who had served time but was unfortunately killed by one of them in a terrorist attack. In the song, Dave specifically names the things Jack fought for (rehabilitation over prison time, funding for communities etc) because Dave was concerned that one fucked up terrorist might overshadow Jack’s message and result in policy that does the opposite of what Jack would’ve wanted.

Lots of good comments here. A couple of things that may get overlooked : The animation on the top of the piano was an immense project. It was an incredibly complex process that involved coreographing the movement between the camera and the computers doing the display to give the 3D effect for the TV camera (but would have looked quite odd for the studio audience). Towards the end he mentioned the Windrush Generation. This refers to a whole generation of immigrants (and their decendants) who were woefully let down by the British government. They were encourageed to migrate to the UK from the Caribbean after World War 2 (one of the first ships to arrive with migrants was called the Windrush), but were later subject to disgusting treatment, asked to justify their citizenship, and to produce documents that the government had failed to provide at the time. Many of the immigrants became vital workers: cleaners, drivers, nurses, and did so in the face of terrigble bigotry and oppression. They redefined what it meant to be British, they revitalised and diversified our culture, and the way they were treated is a absolute disgrace.
This was not expected when watching it live as it happened. Dave made waves that day. I had pure goosebumps from the beginning to end and I cried at the end boi

It's absolutely amazing to stumbled upon you guys listening to this for the first time. This song is so powerful! Its beautiful to see everyone sit and listen and just take in everything he is saying!
This song is so powerful, so personal, and so painful....for him to be so young, and have this much knowledge...just speechless...no matter how many times I hear it, it strikes me every single time....
Dave, Wretch 32, Akala etc are showing that UK rappers are true poet’s who chose rap as their medium. I always get shivers when he talks about the way the press treats kate vs meghan as in meghan markle and kate the duchess...here in egland most ppl dont like to admit it so to have him say it on national tv was needed
You Guy's just missed Dave's USA tour it was back in May. Great show, Dave performed 13 songs the highlight of the night was when he brought a random person from the crowd on stage to perform Thiago Silva with him. The crowd was amazing singing along to all songs and the mosh pits were crazy.

Okay i love Dave as much as the next guy and im not religious but i dont think you can make that comparison. It was great that this was shown in full on uk tv at Brit Awards (like our Grammys) It really got people talking in a positive way. From what I have seen, compared to other European nations, if you use racist language you will get a smack (happened to my mate). In France, people are scared to say anything as usually drunk thugs - I get told off for calling them ‘Hitler’? Managers won’t throw them out. But maybe I have just seen bad shit.

UK police mentality is to judge a person based on appearance first. Naturally; inner city youths have fairly specific fashion trends. So with many (not most) inner city youths turning to crime (I believe this to be a result of poverty and lack of positive opportunity), the police associate any young black man with a nice fit to be carrying something they shouldn't. Guys please react to kano - SYM live, it starts of sounding like a light hearted, funny song but once it gets into the verses its an incredibly deep and powerful song and i think youll both appreciate it a lot
As a black man/women. We still deal with racism, bigotry and stereotypes, at the hands of the police and judicial system, whether your in the UK or USA, it's called the black experiences. And of course in the UK, we know and can see what goes on in America, regarding race and inequality. George Floydd, Trevon Martin, Bryana Taylor.
I've watched a few of your UK reactions this morning and I think you guys should check out 'Ren', he's a long standing artist that is exploding on the reaction scene at the moment. Start with 'Hi Ren' then move onto things like 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)' and then deep dive his over videos. Such a talented artist, singer, rapper, performer, all of the above at once.
love the reactions you have to check out a few more dave songs -How i met my ex -survivors guilt -Panic attack -question time -my 19th birthday preferably question time first it brings up a lot of political issues calls out trump and america along with the past few uk prime ministers
One of my favorites from dave is Starlight, it's an amazing piece that he just rides on its so smooth. Also quick reminder to check out ski mask the slump god freestyle on la leakers!
not sure anyone else has mentioned it, but in the end verse Dave also mentions 'Grenfell victims still need accommodation' Grenfell was a tower of social housing in the UK for poor people and migrants which burnt down in 2017 due to poor construction, and killed many of the residents, and the conservative government never really apologised, took accountability or really cared about the families of the victims. I think there's also a Stormzy live at the BRITS or BET award performance where he also mentions this in a verse.
Yep. Extra information on some of the things he said..The reason why he said the prime minister was racist was because she introduced a policy a 'hostile environment' immigration policy that deliberately targetted black and brown people. Jack Merrit was a charity work who was murdered by a terrorist going on a stabbing spree on London Bridge. Grenfell was a tower block which caught on fire killing 72 people. They complained for years prior and were ignored. The cladding was the cheapest possible and was combustible. Last, the Windrush were people from the Caribbean who were invited in the 50's to help the Motherland. Alot of their children didn't have citizenship although they were born in the UK or brought there as children. Under the hostile environment policy, they were sent back.
Appreciate the information, this was one of the coolest performances we have seen. If you are new here we have a Dave playlist and a bunch of other UK reactions ✌️🍻
@@BeersBars All good but I will subscribe. Last couple of things from your discussions. First, the African-American line was directed to the people who believe that the only black people and culture in America. It goes way deeper and isnt the same. Second, if you look at the figures of relations with black people and tge state from Europe to the Americas. The relationship with the police and legal systems are always toxic.
i know yous wont take it wrong, but for videos like this its really good to have a white dude and a black dude espesially when yous both know so much about the musuc scene

Its mental that this kid did this live on normal telly. We all knew our PM was racist seeing this was gobstopping
Just listened to all 4 of your Dave reactions and I loved it😭
Id suggest listening to panic attack next
Thanks and see you Sunday 😉🍻 make sure notifications are on!
He's saying things that don't get talked about
I've watched a few of your UK reactions this morning and I think you guys should check out 'Ren', he's a long standing artist that is exploding on the reaction scene at the moment. Start with 'Hi Ren' then move onto things like 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)' and then deep dive his over videos. Such a talented artist, singer, rapper, performer, all of the above at once.
We did hi ren and we have more Ren coming soon welcome to the Buzz Fam ✌️🍻
@@BeersBars oh amazing! I couldn’t see it when I had a quick flick through earlier. I’ll have a proper look after. Can’t wait to see it!

One of my favorites from dave is Starlight, it's an amazing piece that he just rides on its so smooth. Also quick reminder to check out ski mask the slump god freestyle on la leakers!
We can't find it on UA-cam! (Ski Mask's LA Leakers) Just a two minute clip only 😩
The power of having a famous white pianist playing with him and the assumptions of their skill 😊
Black is power
not sure anyone else has mentioned it, but in the end verse Dave also mentions 'Grenfell victims still need accommodation'
Grenfell was a tower of social housing in the UK for poor people and migrants which burnt down in 2017 due to poor construction, and killed many of the residents, and the conservative government never really apologised, took accountability or really cared about the families of the victims. I think there's also a Stormzy live at the BRITS or BET award performance where he also mentions this in a verse.
You just missed Dave in the US, he had a tour there not to long ago.
😢😭
The relationship with the police and legal systems are always toxic.
i know yous wont take it wrong, but for videos like this its really good to have a white dude and a black dude espesially when yous both know so much about the musuc
scene
you guys have to do how i met my ex .. another amazing story
He the goat
A police shooting just happened recently in Streatham, South London. An innocent black guy driving a friend's car that police were looking for was shot and killed.
