  • Couldn’t find a solution anywhere on my LED light issue. I finally decided to just change the light out. Couldn’t find a video on actually doing that so here you go.
Here’s a back story on my problem.
My wife’s LED strip on her Range Rover Velar went out. Called the dealership which is two hours away and they said it would be a $2800 repair! Started researching and what happens is the chip goes bad inside the headlight. I decided to roll the dice so I ordered a used light off eBay for $120 took me 45 minutes without any instructionals. Hopefully it only takes you 20 minutes. 😅
This is without a doubt the easiest way possible to swap a light. It fixed my LED issue and went smoother then I could have imagined.
All you need is a 10m socket a Phillips screw driver and a light.

Nice bro thanks, im about to take the light out of my wifes velar, the DRL is out on the driver side. I found someone saying you can replace the led modules and it is like new. The three modules are 50 bucks + 11 for the butyl sealant for the lens cover afterwards. Worth a try instead of 2500 for a new headlight. I'll post an update here if it works with the parts link. God bless.

      Alright so here's the update.
      It worked great.
The headlights are sealed with that permaseal stuff and it is a serious pain to separate the lens cover from the housing. You will definitely want to use an oven. You will need a large oven because the headlight itself is massive.
Preheat the oven to 120c (250f) and throw the headlight in there for 15 minutes.
Once you take the headlight out you will need to work fast to start prying the two sides of the lens a part.
I would start on the bottom edge of the fat part of the tear drop shape of the light if that makes sense. If you are facing the front of the car, the most inner diagonal bottom "corner". becareful as you pry a part the cover the electronics are very close to the edges of the light housing in some areas.
One being the thinnest outer part of the light in the corner, and then again on the most inner side of the light right as the curve starts to round off back towards the top of the light.
I had to put the light in the oven 3 times before i got it apart.
Once you gain access to the inner housing , there are two or three tiny star head screws. I don't remember the size im sorry. Maybe TT9 ? that you will need to take off to get at the three modules you need to replace.
The modules replacement is self explanatory, you just swap out the module and plug in the wiring. They are all different shapes and correspondingly labeled.
You will need high heat tolerant glue for one of the modules as it needs to be glued back to its mounting bracket. The other two have slots that fit into the bracket.
Once thats all done take your time scraping out the rest of the permaseal from the housing joint crease.
Then replace it with some butyl sealant and seal it back up and put it back in the car.
Point of attention. When re-installing the headlight, the cable for the hood release runs just behind the driver's side headlight emplacement. If you get it pinched between the light and the frame the hood wont open and youll need to remove the fender lining a little more to gain access to the cord so you can open the hood again to fix it.
I was so happy when I slapped the light back in and started it up to see that it worked that I shut the hood before I had put any of the mounting screws back in and it added about 45 minutes to the process trying to figure out how to open the darn thing again.
All in all it wasn't that bad of a process and is definitely worth it. Just take your time and you'll get it taken care of.
Here are the parts links that I used. Im going to add pound signs to the front and back of the links so youtube doesnt delete my comment I hope so just highlight in between the ## for the corrrect link.
Make sure for the headlight modules you select the correct side as they are not positioned the same way!

I have repaired the DRL... one of the 3 LED modules was burnt... and thus was affecting the full DRL and made it shut down after 1-2 mins... went to a an auto electrician and changed all 3 LED modules... price was about 300 EUR/330 USD.

There’s an LED chip board replacement you can get. I have it and I’m trying to get the headlight out to repair it but you’re instructions aren’t clear enough. I’ve removed every bolt you’ve referred to and got the bumper out but the headlight is still very attached.

Strange, I would think the wedge I shown at 1:48 is what’s holding you up. If the light itself has wiggle then it should be free of bolts if there’s no wiggle at all there’s a bolt hiding out. That wedge coming from the light is a pain in the butt I would bet that’s the issue your having

(Velar 2019) I have an issue with the DRL on the passenger side... after about 60-90 sec it just turns off... I just got the car back from the shop and they did change a solenoid on my gearbox... might that affect the DRL or is it just a coincidence?! Also, do you think it might be reparable or am I domed to spend aprox 2k usd for a used one?
