I sold all my Travis pairs and with the money I was able to take a trip and have an actual experience that I will remember forever. The majority of people don’t care about what shoes you have on. Life > Shoes
Heavy on tip number 5: you don’t need everything, sometimes it’s good enough to know they exist. It’s like picking a beautiful flower in a field, only to realise once we’ve picked it then it starts to die. If we don’t pick it, we allow others to enjoy it too
Two tips I would add from experience: 1. Set a limit to the number of pairs you own at any given time. Once I hit that limit, I started really thinking about each pair I owned and bought and which ones I really liked most. 2. Place a bid on something you missed out on before a very hyped release. So far 2/4 times my bid was accepted on the day of release.
3:04 such a good point. I love my Jordan 1s and just can’t see myself wearing sambas as much as I tried on different color ways they just don’t fit me and my personal taste. Like em on other people they definitely fit females better.
Mistake number 5: you don’t need everything - This is absolutely true for everyone, but if you can stop buying sneakers, then you are not a sneakerhead 😂
Great vid JD! One tip I'd offer is to consider buying lightly used pairs or pairs without boxes/accessories if you don't care much about them. So far this year I've grabbed multiple pairs for 20-30% less than a DS pair because they were worn once or had a hole in the box, neither of which matter to me once they've hit my feet for the first time. Similarly, trading can be a way to rotate the collection without spending much more; there are apps and websites that let you move pairs in and out without going through the combination of paying to sell your old pair and paying again to buy a new one.
Another great look Josh! One thing that’s helped me is at the start of the year I began cataloguing releases in my notes. I documented all L’s and W’s. Prices paid. What I liked and didn’t like. It’s helped me appreciate them from a different perspective and log pairs I may need to go back for or just simply pairs I thought were great in the moment and like you said realized down the road I didn’t need them as bad as I thought.
Clear concepts, simple words, and… all the rules are real and true. Thanks for this video and for your channel! 👏🏻 Being a quite recent sneakerhead, I confirm having done almost all these mistakes. Learning by doing… mistakes 😉
Agree point 5, exactly on size, coz i bought some bigger size, look like my foot is better and thinner, somehow it is not good when we really we wear for a whole day ❤❤❤
You killed it with this one. I’ve made every mistake you mentioned. Buying the shoe not the story resonates the most, I’ve worn the J1 lost and found like 3 times in the year I’ve had them.
I respect how you feel about the wc3s to you personally, but they are probably my favorite in my collection. not bad on comfort, goes with everything in my closet, super clean, ages perfectly and still looked great a little dingy or beat since it already has that pre age look (don’t love the pre age thing Nike been doing but that’s a talk for another time) great video man.
I bought the Cement 3's firstly because they're OG's of course and they looked nice and I've never had a pair of 3's before. Having them now, I don't necessarily regret buying them, they are really nice, but they just don't fit my style and the pants that I wear, I think the shape looks kinda funny. Union 1s though, I loved both the story and the design, win win 💪
Ask yourself these 2 crucial questions before making a purchase. 1) Do I NEED these or just WANT them ? 2) Are they wearable ? A crazy colorway/materials combo may look great on the shelf, but not on foot. If you're a collector this doesn't apply.
Grt content as always! I think this topic and others that are informative, are dope in addition to reviewing shoes. Keep up the grt work! BTW, I’ll take the reimagined 3s off your hands 🤣
So right about the Union AJ1 "marketing storyline" behind it, why would you wear some other couple's love story on your feet? Yes I know the brand of Union, but to be honest I don't even know the couple names, and to wear their love story on my feet? A little strange feeling for me
I started on the path of Jordan 1 the moment I saw it on Miles Morales' feet. And I am glad the Next Chapters are selling below retail. I now have a decent number of Nikes, mostly J1, and all are almost unique from one another to not bog me down on the cost and redundancy, while still being eye-catchy
I feel like UA-cam is reading my mind, I’ve been working on updating my wardrobe and was wanting more sneakers, this video def help me be more selective when curating my expenses. Thanks for the advice!
I remember growing up I couldn’t stand Aj3. I just didn’t get it and thought they were ugly. Older I get the more I appreciate the model and grown to love em. Getting shoes for under retail is what I need to work the most lol
Basically guys… this is what u call a hypebeast.. buy shit u wouldnt usually buy based off the hype and high price thinking the price signifies rarity lmaoo
Settling for less, I wanted the NB 2002r rain cloud forgot to enter initial raffles when they first dropped and restocked and settled for other colours instead. About 6 other different colours yet I mostly wear neutral colours and should have just bought it on resale or traded a pair when resale crashed. Learnt now to never settle, either get it or wait for something better. Also I do feel less it more, I would rather now have 20 solid pairs than over 100 pairs I hardly wear. My aim is to downsize and focus on wearability, if the shoe is non functional or ugly or whack colours hype won’t save it for me or anyone. This year I focused on collabs I wanted and fortunate to get most of them at retail - Jarritos, aj3 reimagined, aj3 balvin, Union aj1 bbs, sb4 etc. It has paid off not settling and chasing every release. It feels better buying less too as we are in the world of consumerism. I have taken a lot of Ls but also the upside is I have been quite fortunate. Being a sneakerhead is addictive, contentment is key and there are more important things so just enjoy your sneakers and don’t forget to enjoy life
I never pay attention to hype when buying sneakers. I buy what I like and that’s it. The only hyped up shoe this year that I absolutely love and still don’t have is the SB4. Unfortunately thus is one of the shoes that didn’t hit that 9/10 on price dropping after release. They keep climbing and climbing, especially in my size 11. I’m hoping with the economy starting to fall and people not buying like they were, that they start dropping, cause it’s a must have for me, but I’m not paying $550
Kinda disagree that buying the “we have Gucci gazelles at home” Colourway really is going to make you happy. Maybe in that case where you like both shoes, that’s fine, but 9 times out of 10 the almost there Colourway just ain’t it.
So true, I bought the 9060 blue haze because I couldn't get the 9060 Bodega, and even though I like the blue haze, I still wish it was the Bodega pair.
Never had Jordan 4, then got one in red cement. For sure absolutely top looking shoe and great history behind but honestly quite uncomfortable on foot. Then got a similar Air Flight 89 and also Air Flight Legacy in nearly the same colourway for the price of one Air Jordan 4, and both are so much more comfortable, especially the Legacy which I adore more. Still gonna keep the J4's and wear them only on special occasions.
It’s crazy how many people I see where they’re always copping every sneakers every week because they’re clearly falling from content creators’ hype, even CCs themselves even I know it’s their job to review sneakers.
Another W video! I really resonate with "you don't need everything." I've chased only one drop this year: the Action Lapis. The resale is too much so I said no. Sometimes I do go after a pair on resell, the SB Dunk Gardenias. Overpaid? Yes! But I got a shoe I really like. As a human not named PJ Tucker, I have limited space and resources only for shoes I love. Small collection.
when i first started collecting shoes i was practically buying shoes at random, now i'm basically just getting rid of pairs I haven't worn in months to even years.
Mistake number 1 is what's keeping me from pulling the trigger when it comes to hype sneakers that I like. What's a good alternative to the JJJound x New Balance 990v3 Olive? 😅
5:22 a good sub point for this one is..... you don't have to complete the set. I love one model and then feel compelled to get other models in the pack to complete the set and end up only wearing one of them or even worse...none of them.
I dont really have many mistakes since I always buy something that I resonate with. I do purchase shoes I am unsure about because it is so hard to find them on the shelves to determine. So I ended up taking a lost sometimes just bc store sales are final.
Paying above retail on anything that you haven’t sat on for at least a few weeks. I’ve bought one pair of shoes that was way above retail that I wore to death and that was the Plum Dunk low from the ugly duckling pack. Also the La to Chicago Jordan 1 but those were the wrong size so a little small which hurt my feet. Anyways, unless you MUST have them and you sit on it for a few weeks and still MUST have them, don’t pay over retail for shoes man. Save your cash
Some good insights , some quite unconvincing : the AJ3 reimagined are my first AJ3 and I love them . They are clean , reasonably comfortable and provide me with quite a change of look from my numerous NB and AJ1. I will maybe get a second pair of AJ3 if I can hit retail on some cool ones . Concerning the resell price , another reason of prices going down on some hype models are is the flood of fakes . For instance the 990v6 from action Bronson : as soon as good fakes hit the market , resell prices crash down ( either because people buy straight up the fakes or because unscrupulous dudes sell them through stock x …)
I swear I never understood the whole shoe sizing ordeal with people going a size up or half a size down or etc. I literally have multiple brands of shoes and I always buy size 13 and I've never had any of my shoes not fit or be to big or to small. It's odd that I see so many people with different size shoes I guess I just have thin feet or something
thats weird man I have a few Jordans and they fit the same. I think the width of ur feet def matters tho but I have had a few boots that did fit slightly larger or smaller then I was hoping or crocs@@rayrawket
I hear you and you're luck but some people ( me) have an in between size I'm a 10 & 3/4 but trust me there's some shoes like the PG 4'S that even if you go up half a size it's a snug fit
Thank you for getting into the psychological warfare within us as we make purchasing decisions. A year or so ago I really wanted the Tom Sachs general purpose shoe ( the first one) but resell price was too much so I picked up a pair of the ACG Locate which is like a poor man's version of the Tom Sachs and it's a great shoe.

A major tip would be don’t buy two pairs that are too similar. I have the A Ma Maniére Jordan 3s and love them, hence I couldn’t justify buying the White Cement Jordan 3s. There is no occasion or outfit that I would be able to wear one and not the other with.
I finally burned out on sneakers lol. I started selling off most of my pairs and am only keeping a handful for collector's purposes. Like my Yeezy 750s and some of the Classic 350 V2 colorways I still have DS. I realized at most I can only wear maybe 4 pairs per week, one of them being a pair of Docs. Definitely be extremely picky when buying sneakers. Don't just buy everything you see, even if its on deep clearance. Chance are you're not gonna wear those shoes at all.
I still want the Jordan 3 Balvin's that dropped last month...since I didn't hit for retail, I am going to use Goat and place an under resale offer and hope someone gets desperate for the $$ and make the sale!!
You kinda have to know the market when you decide to not buy something because you think it will go on sale. As a size US 12 even things that aren’t that hype don’t make it to the sale racks in my size
You need to have enough of your own rules and stick to them. I buy no dunks unless they’re SB’s for retail, I buy no reimagined pairs unless to trade or sell, i buy no pairs with a jumpman on the back, I buy no 1 mids or 1 low non-OG, Travis Scotts are for flipping/trading only, and if I truly love a new pair and hit, I trade or sell one of my least favorites. Last one is getting difficult tbh, but I stick to it.
I sold all my Travis pairs and with the money I was able to take a trip and have an actual experience that I will remember forever. The majority of people don’t care about what shoes you have on.

#5 "You don't need everything" - learning this rehabilitated my wallet
It takes a long time to learn this but when you finally do it’s liberating
I couldn’t care less about hype. I buy what I like. For instance I bought the artisanal red Jordan 1’s for $99 2 weeks before they released
Disclaimer if u wear 14 and above u gotta buy Jordan 1s at retail. It’s a very slim amount of pairs that sit in big sizes
When trying on sneakers, consider how they look on you, as they may not appear as good when worn.
Regular gazelles are still great
I’m wearing my Union BBS 1s as I saw this posted and I feel so attacked (I haven’t watched the video yet)
Naw you dont have to feel attacked. It just reiterates point 2 where you buy what you like. I love my Union BBS 1s.

Absolutely agree on all points. Especially with the Union Jordan 1, it looks atrocious.
I still want the Jordan 3 Balvin's that dropped last month...since I didn't hit for retail, I am going to use Goat and place an under resale offer and hope someone gets desperate for the $$ and make the sale!!

Buying for the story is perfectly acceptable. Not a mistake.
Depends if you’re the type to buy sneakers to display them or buying them to wear, I’m in the second group so for me it’s a mistake

Buy the shoe not the story is a big one for the hat community too. Buy the hat not the hook.
I am sobbing right now😞😞
Emphasis on #2 and #6
I ain't rocking no sambas foh!! 😂
Damn what a hater ! 😂
A lot of these depends on what you get out of shoes me personally I love shoes with a story
I think, it doesnt matter 😂
I’ll take those 3s bro, how much u want for them? 😂
Nobody going to really know if those are gucci unless they look hard at it not worth it
Or ya know.. just buy what you like..
Sell them then
Story is the wackest reason to buy a sneaker. It’s literally just made up.
I didnt like them because they were Gucci I liked the color way RIIIIIIIIGHT lmao
