If safety is above everything , than let’s conclude that no bikes , rickshaws and tractors are to be allowed to sell in India , infact only criteria should be safety so that no one buys anything below Mercedes and other luxury cars , because even with 5 star in Tata and mahindra they still lack in safety compared to Mercedes and bmw !! So you need life first. If you’re walking on the road do you walk in the center? Every person is concerned about safety. I don’t say it is the safest car but a small difference may change your life. Sonet is safe too ,I witnessed a live accident where the driver just dumped the vehicle into 8ft deep in an under construction canal. Speed 70-80 kmph . Damage was minimum and all passengers and driver were safe .

Exactly, the ride quality of sonet is 3rd class in front of 3x0, so much noise, lack of power, shortness in gear powers and not a point of soft touch without dual tone interior😢

And as for the stationary situation, what can you do if you're in a safer car anyways? Dings from behind or ahead at 40-60 won't harm you seriously, now if some idiot T bones you at 120 while crossing a junction, you aren't getting saved, 5 star cars get tested at 30 something kph for side impact. As for front on impacts, depends on luck, but 5 star or not, you're not walking away without whiplash at the least cuz airbags keep the head safe for the most part, what's vulnerable is more the legs and chassis flex, we'll have to wait on a report for that data though

Yea are right having 5 stars doesn't mean u can drive at ridiculous speeds and get away with it , but our roads are so unpredictable and safer drivers also get impacted severely (most buyers just know how to drive forget safe driving).
Ultimately its left to the buyer (who watch these reviews) so we expect more from channels like Power Drift to emphasize on the right things .

Power drift is sold to Sonet. Level 2 Adas, 5 star safety is far superior than Sonet's thudding suspension and low visibility windows

Just one statement i would respectfully disagree is the safety statement that you gave, its not always your perception towards safety that saves you, a lot of time other might be at fault, which will lead you to a crash , safe car always helps you there. As a big automobile UA-camr, rather than defending the poor built quality of cars, you should have pointed that out, so that viewers can have an unbiased take. If the safety was just a driving behaviour thing then the developed countries wouldn’t have been so strict about it. Please make responsible decisions so that the indian automakers also prioritise this.

Very well said! This is very important esp in cities like Bangalore where the driving sense is horrific. Even if you follow the rules, someone will come & ram into your vehicle. Also Kia feels like an oversized hatchback.

Tech is not the basics you need in the car. First things first A good engine, Safety and a good ride quality. Probably the biggest reason i would go for xuv is the ride quality vs sonet
I would take the XUV over Sonet solely for the rear passenger leg room - I'm 5'11 and the shortest male in my family and everybody complained about this aspect when we checked out Sonet at the dealership...it's worse than our previous 13 year old hatchback - i20
90% of people don't buy cars to just hit the basics.
The features are a feel good factor and people like to show off too.

Lower variants exist, no one is forcing you to buy top end cars, and even the brand's know this, top end cars are for the flashiness, the rich who can spend on it, the lower variant and their VFM is what matters
For just under 14L You can get the DCT turbo with ventilated seats (must in this temp), and all electronic safety amenities and those disc brakes and 6 airbags in the HTX variant, it's more than enough🤷♂️

Just a gentle reminder. Not everyone buys the top spec variant costing 15-16Lakhs. Most sales comes from mid spec variants. So try to compare those.

i see everyone is bashing Karan over his statement about safety, but honestly he has a point. Sure, safety is paramount, and sometimes when you get in an accident it's not your fault. But defensive driving exists, and it's not like sonet is a 0 star car. IMO, it's better to be a safe driver in a 3 star car (or more since Sonet facelift was never tested) than to be an overconfident driver in a 5 star car.
How about I prefer to be a safer driver in a 5* rated car. Afterall I could not control careless drivers like Rishabh Pant.

do you even at what speeds these crash tests are done and in what speeds accidents happen generally? more the speed, higher the chances of your 5star rated car saving you. 3star rated will become 1star at 100+ kmph. First, you should learn physics.
@@shreyass9922 lol if a car couldn't withstand at 64 kmph chances of it being able to withstand a 80 to 100 kmph speed is zero. A 5* rated car or suv will perform much better even at high speeds compared to a zero or 1 star rated vehicle. You could prefer those maruti coffins in interest of mileage and cheap repairs.

Sorry, with all the respect - the comparison is not making much sense here. Because Sonet has the best premium features or the luxury car feel but it also misses out the major feature like sunroof, ADAS and most important safey rating. On the other hand, 3X0 does not have ventilated seats, power adjusting driver seat but it has come newly this year and it has come with a bang with plenty of features. I still would perfer 3X0 over sonet as of today.

@@areenkolekar1263 Yep you did the right thing. 3XO Diesel offers AMT automatic which is bad vs TC in Sonet. For Petrol automatic, I am going for 3XO. So as a future 3XO owner, you fid the right thing as far as diesel is concerned. Petrol is much more closer.

Also the after sales service is impeccable of Kia. I purchased the HTX 7DCT variant and I am Fully satisfied with the performance.
Same goes with Mahindra. They have a fantabulous service network. even in small villages of Kerala I got my KUV 100 serviced properly for a mishap I suffered in a jungle adventure.

Mahindra has significantly enhanced its powertrain and features, although it still falls short in terms of premium perception. Nonetheless, it's commendable to see it achieving comparability. Perhaps, with the forthcoming 4XO model, we can anticipate even greater refinement and a more premium experience.

Just to add context to MOST OF REPUTED REVIEWERS, they are mostly given the top end variants of every new launched vehicle so as to give their own take to the best of company's offerings. Overall the ordinary middle class man goes on to get updates from these reviewers (just to clear, i am not criticising them for their reviews as they are only giving us points based on the vehicle models they have been given to test) and try to make decisions based on the choices offered by top end variants of vehicles.
However adding on to that, people who actually want to purchase a new vehicle can only get fair idea about general dynamics of a vehicle atleast for the initial phase till the time deliveries start and other reviewers like DDS and others which offers ownership reviews to give more proper picture on what the average customer is facing.
Powerdrift has truly drifted away from what it used to be. Focusing on gimmicky things and giving brownie points to Sonet for these over actual car features like engine, transmission, handling and safety is not what a automotive channel is supposed to do.
I hope they come back on the right track. They used to be my favorite channel once upon a time...
People who don't wear seat belts on both front or rear seats should not be talking about safety ratings. Because no amount of stars in ratings can save them without seatbelts.

How can you ignore safety?? We took a test drive of Sonet. The back was rattling whenever we passed over rough or uneven roads. We could hear the rattling sound. The vehicle was very light. It didn’t give the SUV feel at all. Rather an oversized hatchback with loaded features. Took Nexon test drive & the vehicle was heavy, rugged & there was no rattling at the back.

Personally I don't see NCAP ratings to be a dealbreaker. It's good to have a vehicle with good NCAP ratings but while buying any vehicle you look at the whole package the vehicle is offering not just NCAP ratings. Just because a vehicle has good ratings it doesn't make it a default choice or right for everyone.

Here's what I do not understand you guys know all too well that just a tiny fraction of all buyers go for the highest variant, and time and time again thats the variant you guys choose to test and compare completely ignoring the fact that about 80% of the buyers go for the mid variants. You also know all too well with the above two cars specifically that at the mid variant levels the 3XO is more value for money and u have the 5 star rating coupled with that. I think when you mentioned Premium feel for the sonet some premium perfumed used in the sonet must have knocked you off your senses!

Individual preference matters. that's it. My pick will be XUV 3XO for its massively powerful engine and ride comfort and seating space. The 5* safety rating is like a cherry on top of a cake.
For everyone the "safety rating" is the be all and end all, all of you should go ahead and buy a tata 407 instead.

Sonet has very poor rear seats, level 1 ADAS , a questionable DCT (I test drove the new Sonet - and I felt nothing like this reviewer mentioned, it felt like a faster AMT to be honest).
I am yet to test drive the 3XO , but no way it comes off worse in this comparison.
May I add that the top end sonet weirdly gets only WIRED Android Auto and Apple Carplay?
If you are a consumer please prioritise safety and comfort in a car rather than tech. Safe chassis and seat space cannot be upgraded once the car is brought.

So many facts have to be considered in an accident, what if your airbags doesnt deploy, mahindra will easily escape telling direction of the impact was not towards crash sensor, low impact collisions so airbags dint deploy, company will find loop holes as mahindra has done with few cases. We have seen Cyrus Mistry's Mercedes, kerala skoda octavia crash killed the occupant, Even Range Rovers for that matter have similar cases. Most important thing of all is your " TIME ", if it has to happen it "WILL" at any cost. If TIME is good, even in Wagon R ull be alive, if time is showing its back on you, even armoured vehicle can be coffin boxes.

I test rode the MX3 and HTK optional a day apart and man the 3xo’s driving experience and torque felt so amazing! Sonet 1.2 engine is very dull and don’t have any character.
XUV 3XO is far better than Sonet!

yes. It starts from AX5L. and AX7 is just 50k costlier than AX5L but misses upon level 2 ADAS, 360 degree camera, electronic brake and hill hold buttons. But then gains by having a panoramic sunroof and more premium sound system and seats.
Except ventilated seat option not available rest all 3X0 is far better than sonet
