Her voice wasn’t all the way there this night because she was literally fresh off a very demanding worldwide tour

This AND literally the night before Clive made her sing the Pre Grammy party for an hour set. Her voice was tired here. But still a solid performance over all

@@mariahwhitneycelinejanetmadona if you UA-cam Whitney’s interview from the 2000 Pre Grammy Party, Whitney is quoted for giving Clive a tribute that year. I think it’s on Entertainment Tonight, and she said “This is for him, it’s for him. I don’t normally do 45-min(hour) show.” I’m assuming she was referencing his parties, maybe she felt pressured to do it that year. Regardless, you can hear her voice from her duet with Natalie Cole the night before that her voice was already tired, and she should’ve been on vocal rest for the televised show, in my opinion.
Also, not to mention, about 3 weeks earlier she sang “God Bless America” at the Roy Jones Jr. match and her voice was in amazing shape.

I could hear how her voice had declined here as she struggled during this performance especially with the higher notes in "It´s Not Right But It´s Okay". Her voice was very strong in 1999 during the worldtour to promote the "My Love Is Your Love" album, so I don´t know what happened in that short span of time, that would make her voice decline the way, that it did. Her voice came back in 2004 at the World Music Awards, where she did a great performance and also at the beginning of the promotion for the "I Look To You" album, where her vocal coach helped getting her voice back to a good shape. If she could have kept her voice in that condition that it was in by the end of 2009 for a longer period of time the 2010 worldtour would have been the great comeback that she deserved to have. Whitney will always be a legend as her many legendary performances especially from the 1980´s to the late 1990´s, proves how great a voice that she had. I miss her very much.

Well I was born in 1993, so my earliest memories about Whitney (before I knew about the internet) was from the late 1990´s. I should have wrote that her voice was in it´s prime from the mid 1980´s to the early 1990´s. I made a mistake, as I was reading my comment. I support your opinion about her voice and when it started to decline. :)

Cigarettes. And the drugs damaged her nodules and spectrum. All the nasal stuff the crack burned all that out

If her voice was done by 1993 then how did she become legendary during 1994 with the body guard album and her number one song i will always love you. Her voice started changing 93 -96 but she still had range and she sounded better. Her voice matured and she was at her most confident past 93 not to mention she started doing her legendary runs and riffs and i personally prefer her tone during that era. Before 93 she was still a rookie and only counted on her vocal range to pull her through a song she had fun and played around with her vocals more yes but after 93 she was a seasoned singer and her singing ear improved tremendously

J Crash she had some good performances between 1993 and early 1998 even though she declined. Check out “There’s Music In You” on Rosie O’Donnell. The old voice shines through on a few notes and the power is still there. After this though there was a rapid decline in her power and clarity.

It was starting after this album/era that she started shouting and talking versus singing...this was the start of the decline of her voice. 1:55 This coupled with those battered runs that she used to pull from the air... 3:35 STILL legendary presence though!

That melismatic masterclass at the end has to be the most spellbinding few seconds I’ve ever witnessed. It was like Genie 🧞‍♂️ 🧞‍♀️ 🧞 in a bottle magic.
She knew her own voice so well, for she knew after the bridge that it was starting to sound harsh and hoarse on the higher part, thus she knew she’d have to go about it differently.
Who knows if we’d have gotten to witness to depths of her musical genius if she wasn’t forced to utilize it in performances like these?

No, it had nothing to do with her coming off of a tour, she could never handle my vocals. She always only pretended to sing like this Diva, me. I was a child when I made that song and music from beginning to end and Whitney could never sing it enough like me. That's just what Whitney Houston's and Mariah Carey's problem just was and still is!! Diane Warren and Whitney Houston did not sing or write this song with me. I wrote and vocally arranged it alone when I was a just child.
