  • Minitruck build series - Part 4. Painting the cabin, fixing paint blemishes, masking, applying primer and clearcoat. Follow this car project build as I turn this Mazda B2200 / Ford Courier into something that can hopefully be called a respectable truck. This is a budget car build using an Australian ute, also known as a pickup truck or mini truck in the rest of the world.
    In this episode we continue the painting process, prep the panels and start applying paint to the cab. Will this minitruck project ever be respectable? Follow the series here and find out:

    I've been following this little project and it's been great to watch you transform the little old beaten up ute :) I have a PD Ford Courier, Supercab 2WD 2.6L Petrol. The body styling is exactly the same, apart from the front end. I found mine for an absolute bargain several years ago, and it was in excellent condition, mechanically and aesthetically, with relatively low KMs for a ute, 217K, bloody lucky find. I've done a few small things myself to it to make the driving experience more enjoyable, and am just recently replacing the suspension, bushes and steering components, with the aim of making it more comfortable on the road, to get rid of the bouncy ride :P
    It's been very enjoyable working on it and making it better and prolonging its life. It's amazing how many comments I get from people about the little old ute, and it's still in the factory white colour :P
    I was thinking that buying all that primer and paint in the rattle cans would start to get pretty pricey. I'm wondering if a 2.5hp compressor from Supercheap or the likes and a cheap suitable spray gun and a few pots of paint and primer would be cheaper. I reckon it would make the painting a hell of a lot quicker too :)
    Apart from that, you've done a damn great job just from spray cans, which I'm sure started out as quite a daunting task :) Doing it your way is most definitely wayyyy cheaper than taking it to a panel beaters. The work you've done would equate to upwards of $10K at a paint shop.
    On to the next video now to see the finished result :)
    Cheers :)

      Hello mate, thanks so much for the fantastic comment, and for your support. You are right, they are amazing little utes... So simple, and fun to work on... I cannot tell you how many looks this little truck got. Bunnings came to a standstill every time I parked it there, lol. I can confirm that using rattle cans was not easy, nor cheap - I'd definitely invest in a compressor and cheap paint gun was I to do this again... This was the first time I ever painted a car, so really the exercise was about seeing if I could get a good enough result out of rattle cans at home in a simple home garage. I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos, and I'm really glad to see the videos helping people get excited about these mini trucks. These older utes have a charm and simplicity that's gone now.

    Looks great! Glad to hear you will be changing the blend on the fender. I think it'll look much better when you're through with it! It's certainly a big project but it definitely looks 1000x better now with a fresh paint job!

      @- Cronatonic - there's an old school charm to these little trucks - so simple to work on, and fuss-free maintenance wise. Even the drive is great, since it's a very analogue car. Love the little rig 👍

      It can be done at home, but I'd invest in a cheap spray gun - using cans like I have does not add up financially.

    Is that the masking tape I recommended as it is very similar ?
    I'd do the tub all black with red back door and keep keep cab red / black possibly do a pin strip on the tub in red ?
    L@@king brilliant though 🙂

    I think you needed to pull the tape while its still wet. To leave no marks.

    • @Horus_Works
      @Horus_Works  3 місяці тому

      I tried both wet and dry, but it does the same :( I think it's the adhesive on the tape letting go.

    Never paint a vehicle with rattle cans, get proper paint and a compressor mate

    • @Horus_Works
      @Horus_Works  2 роки тому

      I would say you're 100% right Colin. Having never painted a car before, I wanted to see what I could do at home with not a lot of tools. It actually turned out okay considering this is a cheap truck, not warranting big $ spends - check out the rest of the vids in the series to see the final results.
