I just now realized I'm still holding a grudge for getting my account banned on neopets at like 9-10 years old when I was still reading the rules and terms and conditions and was a true goody two shoes. I invested so much time on that site, kept to myself, and somehow got banned. I wrote a tearful email to them and they restored it, but it still hurts like 25 years later.
The same thing happened to me and they didn't restore my account. I'm still mad about it. I was on OG neopets and had so much stuff on my account. Apparently when items were created through a hack or something, they would ban anyone who traded or purchased that item in the future. ANYONE, no matter how long ago the original cheat happened. I assume that's how I got banned and probably you too. But they ghosted me when I emailed them. I will die mad about it lol
I'm so mad at the people who bought Jumpstart-
They specifically only wanted Neopets, so School of Dragons was abandoned and it was the last nail in the coffin, leading to it being shut down

This story goes back to a dentist appointment I had in the 2nd week of school, and my mom bought me a faerie acara plushie. I was in 6th grade, but I was already taking high school literature classes.
One day I decided to narrowly avoid class by going to the bathroom, but the upstairs girl’s bathroom was being cleaned. I was too lazy to take the stairs down to the elementary girls bathroom, so I took the school’s flimsy elevator with triggers that would trap unattended students in there. For 5 minutes I absolutely flipped out, clawing at my shirt ( I still remember what I was wearing, an anime shirt, probably Cardcaptor Sakura), trying to rip open the door with my hands. screaming, crying. I thought nobody could hear me. (Later on the aide who helped me out said she was freaking out because she hear a student screaming, not out of anger or sadnesss but out of fear but couldn’t locate it. PROBABLY BECAUSE I WAS IN THE WALLS)
Then I noticed a “call” button in the door and spent 1 minute hysterically sobbing over the speaker.
That same day, my mom surprised me after school with the faerie acara plushie, and for months I carried it around. I’m still terrified of elevators today.
We will never have something as cozy as browser games again

I don't think they hired new developers. I think they put their flash games through an HTML5 converter blindly without a programmer looking it over. Hence why there are undefineds and NaNs everywhere (javascript / PHP null cases).

Hello! A long time neopets player here! Its been a year since I left the game because:
1-item inflation by toxic players (TNT never did anything about it)
2-if you wanted cute pet customization you need to obligatory purchase NC (neopet credit you need real money for), because the only release of new clothes you could purchase with NP were only on the day of the neopet, which only came one time a year.
3- The community I once love to hang out with became toxic because the infamous trading of neopets and NC clothes. People now only care about UC pets and it was near imposible to trade, more and more drama fill the boards. People had to resource to "trade games" to have some fun on the site and actually get painted pets, but surprise, that got ruin by toxic players.
4- If you had an UC, it means putting a target on your back. Players will false report you so the site team will take it away from you, because the site managment is the worse when it came to help, you had a 90% chance of losing your pet out of a jealous player. Also account hacking and pet stealing became a big problem because the site bad security.
5- The only way to make NP to purchase the insanely priced of painbrushes was to sell collectable or rare items. But of course people used bots to purchase all the good stuff out of the site stores, so it was imposible to get any potions or painbrushes to sell.
In conclusion, I loved this game, site and community with all my heart, I love the memories and friends I made! But all the kind players left out of the frustration of nothing getting fix and the increase of toxic players :c

I got a few nice pets from trade games! Including a few dream pets like Faerie Lenny!
I knew UCs could be trouble, but what about popular pet colors? I was afraid of getting certain pet colors because they have good retrade value.
@@DrawciaGleam02 Honestly I also got some really cool pets from trade games! I even got a royal pet with her clothes! But yas I think the game lost its fun when people only wanted "good" pets (since I think every pet is good, it just depends in the user💕) and started to add a bunch of rules to only get pets with retrade value, when the whole point of wonder trade was either get a common pet or explode in joy when you got your dream color by accident🤣💕
But yas, I think rare painted pets had a high risk too, since if you had pet with a nice name and color, people will see more potential to get into tier 1 UCs and so they will want to steal it too. I saw a case were a poor player sadly lost her dream converted pet, since for what I know the pet had a really retradable name and color combo :c
I really hope you didnt had to experience the toxic side, at least unfortunally for me my last few days before I went to a hiatus and never really return, I experience the meaner side of the community and seeing more of my friends leave the community out of frustration, just broke my heart.
I miss the days were we will make the kindness and dream board! We made so many UC, converted and NP dreams come true! We had a great time chatting and goofing around, some neopets users were the among the kindest players I have ever meet in a videogame! I will forever treasure those moments, neopets users really need more love after beeing such loyal fan base💕

That's why I'm willing to take painted pets with not so great names. Less likely people are to steal them......
I remember that while trying to get a faerie lenny, I found one a user had UFT. But they were REALLY picky about trading when said lenny had a name that lowered its retrade value.....and said user had even said ON A PETPAGE that they had begun to lose interest in the faerie lenny.....
Go figure. Glad I finally got one via the pet trade games....
@@DrawciaGleam02 Honestly its sad to see players have to get names that dosent make them happy just to avoid being the victim of jealous players. Like for me I dont care about the name, I even had some terrible pet names because I found them funny! But I really understand that for some players, having a name you feel comfortable with can be really important too.
For the trading, like I completly understand the whole "its your pet, you put effort into it and so you trade it for what you want" but making trading down right impossible because your super picky and dont respect the value of other users pets, its also unfair. I feel like some users could get super mean at saying "no" to offers.
I think it will have been really cool if TNT made the whole getting painted pets more friendly, that way I think the whole trading pets thing will be more casual and fun!
I got deeply depressed for 4 months during unemployment and picked up Neopets again. It helped a lot and gave me something to look forward to. Now that I'm employed in a new industry, I'm struggling to care about it because I'm burnt out on the same few things you can do.
And I'm one of the chumps who pays for premium. 😂

One of the reasons I left the game was the fact paintbrushes were nai *impossible* to buy as sellers would either only go for crazy prices but mostly for showing off their collection by setting the price of the brushes the absolute limit so they could show them off not to actually sell em. It was a nightmare.
Last year I went to the Neopets booth at SDCC and honestly they were so nice and gave me so much free stuff lol

I love Neopets as a tween but I was too stupid to ever really make progress with it. I could never afford fancy brushes or anything. I haven’t revisited it in two decades but I did like the sense of humor and aesthetic. I’d like a simple browser based virtual pet but it’s how to be well done to get me to introduce it to my own little kids. NFTs aren’t what I’m interested in as a mom.
The plot era was just so good. The tale of woe plot was amazing - Return of Sloth too! Plots and preparing for them was what drew me into the game. Unfortunately site events took a turn for the worse year after year.
I ventured into avatar and stamp collecting, which at least kept my going to this date. I'm very curious to see, if they'll deliver on the teased plot. That would be something.

the fact that dominic law was the former (maybe current?) ceo of neopets metaverse makes me nervous. i don't know if he was there from the start or if he was made project lead after the nfts were in production but the fact that he was the ceo behind the most disliked neopets decision of the decade sets me on edge.

Man, I loved this game back in the day. I played it non-stop in the 2000-2002 era. Trying to get/earn those 'stones' that you used to level up your neopets ... and then just selling them at an inflated price in your store to make money to raise your pets' other stats. :)
But then I had started hearing stories about people getting perma-banned from the game even if they didn't do anything wrong and that took a lot of wind out of my sails. The thought of investing more time into my pets with the risk that I'd lose everything led me to realize that it wasn't worth it to continue.
I hope the new management manages to turn things around and restore the game. It was quite creative during it's original run and I have many fond memories about it.
i recently got back into playing and have been pleasantly surprised! older community on the site (a lot of adults), events going on, and all around much easier to understand than what i remember in 2005 😅

4M new funding is NOTHING in software development. With a 100K salary (low end on software development), they can only hire 40 people for 1 year. Planning will take at least 1 quarter and there is not much you can do with just 3 quarters.

I was never a member of Neopets solely because my internet was way too slow for this game to work back in its heydey, lol. I did however serve as a staff member for a similar petsite (much smaller, but had a dedicated fanbase) from maybe about 2010-2017 or 18. The site is still up for some reason, but it's been completely dead since the year I quit for reasons related to why I quit.

@@DrawciaGleam02 As much as I'd like to tell people which site I worked for, the site's discord chat is still fairly active and I'm still friends with a lot of staff and former users, so I know like one or two people are still trying to make the site work and I don't want to chance trolls find my post and ruin it for them when there's no staff members there to monitor it.

Glad Neopets Meta is being discontinued, got so hype for the World of Neopets and the upcoming new story plot. The mobiles are just average time wasters to me, I do like match 3 game for chilling. I tried Sophie's Stew it works fine without any issues, so maybe so other games are still experience bugs by likely being old or just having other issues. So hopefully they get updated soon.

The Fact Neopets is still kicking and barely alive to this day is insane. I thought they were done for once Adobe killed Flash but i am dissapointed they jumped on the NFT bandwagon but i guess they were desperate for cash at the time

i have some emotional reaction to seeing the dark faery. but i cant remember exactly what it was... 👍must have been good times if my body/emotions remember these characters more than my brain does 😂
From what I recall I stopped going on there because they axe all your accounts instantly for anything. I was transferring some items from one account to another and the second account got frozen. And then there was a time I refreshed only a couple times in the snowy place for a paintbrush and my other account got frozen. I saw plenty of other people get axed for no reason at the drop of a hat too, like one kid had started a petition to change back one of the pet designs and got axed. I was only a kid, the site is mainly for kids, they should expect reckless behavior, and for a kid my neopet accounts were a big part of my life. :/ I had used the sight at the height of its popularity in the early 2000s so not sure if they’re still like this.

I miss Neopets. When I was in elementary school I had that weird neopet pocket game.
It's funny as a kid i used to play neopets and as i got older i moved over to subeta, then to Gaia... if anyone remembers gaia.... but even to this day i remember that subeta had the same concept of brushe4s, just they were potions, but even now i think the designs for the pets on subeta were and ARE better than most of the neopet designs... sigh... good times
If by Gaia you mean Gaiaonline? It's still very active with a small community, and slowly a lot of the staff are making the site better.

Very informative! I used to play Neopets all the time as a kid, but dropped it after getting into other online flash sites and video games.

As someone who used to collect the magizines and play the games with my sister when we were little, yeah it's sad to see it will never reclaim it's old glory, but at least it's starting to get somewhere. The island building game kinda has my intrest, I'd love to see more of that. I say bring back the card game, you bet your asses my sister and I will grow old playing that game against each other to our graves.

Neopets The darkest Faerie and petpet adventure are still some of my most favorite games that i still play on my old consoles. Would love to see them make more engaging and adventurous games ❤

I never even wanted to TOUCH Neo Meta! The way they treated real Neopets fans (who weren't Crypto freaks) was super awful and they even had a mod who would lash out at others. They made memes and posts basically belitting true Neo fans and did the whole "boohoo, cry little babies" act.
Like...That's not how you want to look toward those you actually want to invite into your little ripoff project..? But whatevs I guess. :P
I'm not sure if it was the actual Neopets Team who invited people to Meta, either; TNT themselves were saying that they didn't want to be a part of Meta, but the Big Guys On Top pretty much forced them to take part and whatnot. I mean, it could be a coverup, but yeah.
To make things worse, though, I heard that one of the creators of Neopets was actually pro-Crypto or something. I need to read about this still, it sounds like it'll be a lot to go through since he was basically CEO of Neopets for a long time and anyone from the Glory Days knows his account and affiliation with asparagus (and borovan ;) ). xD
Also, the site is JellyNeo, not Neo Jelly, lol. But there may be a Neo Jelly...The site you showed was JellyNeo, though.
