Hi Phil we was using frozen lug and squid . The up tiding is just another method . As far as I'm aware the fish hook themselves. When they pull at the bait it dislodges the weight and the pull of the tide in the line hooks them for you

@The.Happy.hooker yeh there's been loads around. I had about 15 all size but nothing big during the summer and they are still around.
I've never even seen a haddock never mind caught one 🤣 think it's something I'll have to target 😁
